Dec 17, 1240 Pacific time

I just called a business sales rep at Apple and was told they are not taking orders yet, and didn't know when they would be.

However, they took my name and phone number and said that they would call back when they were.

If any small business or personal user has been able to place an order, please post when and where it was placed.

Well just called my business rep at apple and they said they can email me a proposal but they don't have them yet and don't know when. But they will let me know when they get any in.

Also just to an apple reseller and they said they have some coming to them but they haven't gotten there yet but they don't know when they will be able to ship .. could be end of december to 1st week in jan .. so who knows

He's not saying they're here as in "they're here sitting in front of me." He's simply saying that orders are being taken.

No, he said 'available today', which we've seen no evidence of.

Heck, that German retailer was already taking orders.... ;)

I called my local Apple Business team and asked if I could get an estimate on two configurations. They said they can't. I mentioned I had seen others online getting estimates, and he said that they were aware of that, and those Apple employees that gave estimates have been fired.

Sounds like a bunch of hot air to me. The mystery shrouding Apple retail policies is kind of stupid. Everyone knows they are playing a corporate game.

Only other guess here is they are having some sort of terrible yield problems, and they are going to roll out in dribs and drabs to studios first...

I'm just waiting for an iFixit tear down.

I have no plans to get an iCan (nmpro), but I'm very curious to see how this thing is put together. The wait has been absurd. I have no proof, but my guess intel is the hold up. GPU chips have been out for a while, and Aple is making the boards, so I doubt that is it. The TB2 controllers could be it, but PC motherboards are out that are sporting them now. I wonder if intel can produce those Xeons at those clock rates listed by Apple. I might think about a purchase when the iCan 2 ships. Be wary of first gen Apple products.

But you wonder about all the ones they already built.

The silence is the problem.

Concern about the early production depends on the nature of the defect. A missing part would be no big deal if its installed post production. Some other kinds of defect can be corrected without reliability concerns. Apple has a reputation for selling quality and I don't think they are going to compromise it with the nMP.

Silence is certainly a problem, but it's our problem waiting in line, not necessarily a problem once they start shipping.

It's all conjecture at this point. Why so certain there's a delay at all? How can a product that was said will be released in December already be delayed on December 17th?

doubtful anyone receives by 12/31.

I’m certainly starting to doubt it more and more with every passing day, but until it becomes basically impossible I do think Apple will hit a 2013 shipping date. Of course this is just my theory, but I think Apple is just trying to save the embarrassment of the iMac fiasco last year, when shipping dates just kept slipping. Rather, they are waiting to take orders until they pretty much know it can ship in at least a week. Which, with christmas, means they need to be taking orders by the end of the week roughly. If that doesn’t happen, then this will be the 2014 Mac Pro and not 2013, which is something I think Apple would probably work hard to avoid.

That seems like a bit of an unfair comparison. You're comparing service from a company that is selling a "released" product that needs customization to a company with an unreleased product. Sure, you may not get the personal phone call, but when it's released the turn-around time for BTO configurations likely won't be much different. The scale of each company also has something to do with it.

I think it is a fair comparison because the products do similar things for my needs. Thinkmate was the first to carry the 12Gb/s LSI PCIe controller after it was released at the end of Nov., which allowed for a workstation with a comparable hard drive speed to the nMP. They also found 1866 GHz ECC RAM at my request and are building with it. The items that I've been waiting for in this unreleased product are no longer unreleased and can now be found in other released products.

As far as comparing different size companies, all I was saying is that it's unfortunate that the largest and richest company in the world can't match the service of a smaller company. I'm not talking about a local corner store, it's another national company, with personal service. If Apple used some of their cash to personalize their customer service for their high paying customers of their expensive Pro line, they might have even more of that market.

Seriously? Photo and video pros are exactly who the nMP is designed for. Not really sure what your problem is. As a 3D artist, it doesn't do anything for me yet, sadly, until my apps use OpenCL. But if I was a pro photographer or video editor, I'd have my American Express card sitting on the desk, waiting.

LOL

Will see how the new drobo will work out

Are they seriously going to release a professional tool on Christmas Eve? or New Years Eve?

I know it's Apples and Oranges but -

I ordered my iPhone 5S on "FRIDAY" 9/20/13
and that shipped from China - not Texas.

That's a good point. I think every iOS device I've ordered in the last two years on launch day was on a Friday.

Ok I'm now bracing for Friday midnight ;)

Friday... hmm... I'm eyeing an ad on Craigslist for a 5,1...

----------

On Dec 31, will there be a press release from Phil Schiller saying "Can’t deliver anymore? My ass! "? :D

My Business rep said exactly the same.

I've send him three setups that I'd like to know the price:

Base model 3099€ but instead the Quad-core CPU

1 - 3.5GHz 6-core processor with 12MB L3 cache

2 - 512GB SSD

3 - both upgrades 3.5GHz 6-core processor with 12MB L3 cache and 512GB SSD

I got a quote from my local apple store 3 days ago. A top spec model is going to cost you (with your business discount) a mere £7,200!!

The units were expected in on Monday but there has been a delay. It is likely to be this Friday I am told, or possibly before.

With most people getting BTO options, I wonder how long the wait to receive our orders will be.

I was hoping to have the new workstation setup for starting work in January :(

i think you'll be lucky if you gets your's to ship before the end of January.
This whole thing is a giant tease, like my ex :p
I don't understand why not have pre-orders. They will get an idea of how this is going to be and they will start shipping them when the time comes..
