Ready

Yes I've committed to buying nMP. I got my mp 4.1 wiped n loaded with mavericks and ready for sale. Using my rmbp for now but yes I'm ready and anxious .....come on apple....at least post BTO $$$$ so I know what I'm dealing with.

So is tomorrow the day?!?

Some people have suggested that Apple more often launches products on Tuesdays. I really haven't paid attention (I thought it was Fridays), but they probably know what they're talking about or someone would have corrected them. :D

Relatively likely he should have missed that apostrophe which substantially changes the semantics. 'Well put' is likely closer fit in the context. If mutated on purpose you are not missing alot.

Jeez, I know that. It's usually fun to play around with people's autocorrect errors. I'm not stupid.

Is today the day?!?

According to the pre-orders of that German website, this should be the day. I would have figured a Tuesday would be the launch day, being a typical Apple launch day.

Monday isn't out of question. If there is nothing by noon on the Apple site, it won't happen today.

It's 4:30 AM PST, I think they usually take the store offline in the early hours of the PST timezone, such as the surprise iPad Mini update last month. If we don't see it by 5 or possibly 6 PST then it's a noop today. Personally I think we're not going to see it. The German site thought it would be this week so put it at Monday is my guess.

based on rumors the day will be 16th December for preorders and from tommorow start to ship. So yes in Cupertino in 4h starts the day. So i guess in 4h we will see

They do it in the early AM PST normally. Maybe so the managers can come in at 9AM and congratulate themselves on the preorder numbers that have already come in ...

Actually more likely is that it's in the morning on the East Coast, afternoon in Europe and late evening in Asia.

So, are they going to make such a major release without any further keynote ? I know nMP is already mentioned in two previous keynotes, but in these keynotes they said a lot without actually say anything.

Past 5AM PST - yeah I don't think we're seeing it today!

No, why should they? It's gotten enough press and talks, at this point they just need to release it. Another press meeting would be anticlimactic as it wouldn't add anything other than "OK we're releasing it".

A little off topic here, but we've got time to digress a bit it seems.

You've been very consistent in the last couple of weeks voicing your displeasure with the nMPmini (as you call it). And I'm assuming from that monicker, that what bothers you the most, is the lack of upgradability. But then today, I noticed the list of stuff in your sig, and I'm now wondering how that could be.

Based on your sig, it would seem like money is no object for you... (And your statement that you might buy one for a HTPC only reinforces this). You seem like the kind of guy that would buy a top-end nMP at every refresh and not think twice... And therefore never need to worry about upgrades since you always have the latest and greatest. What am I missing?

----------

Not really
All I can think of nMPmini as a decorative unit.
I have not bought new MP and just bought 3 year old 12 core to take me over next two years of uknown on what will happen with a new and future of MP.
Since 12 core 5.1 wil run at the same speeds what 12 core MPmini will, there is no need to get it,
I think it shows that I'm pissed at apple for not looking after Photo and video pros. I been a mac user for last 12 years and I jumped from 1.1 to 5.1 and now will wait to see what will happen next, its just a shame that apple overlooked us in the process of designing the new MacPro.
I always wanted reliability and speed, and unfortunately external drives can't give you neither (and I speak from experience).
:)

Aside from all of the BTO pricing, what other info are you looking for?

1 - Thunderbolt is not speedy?
2 - Internal drives never fail?

Early January ?

I really wanted it in hand by now with the end of my tax year but I have a feeling it's not going to be available to order until the 31st and not shipping (and billed) until the new year (see bellow).

I find it interesting that the diskless version of the Promise R4 appears to only be available via Apple (?). My assumption is that it's availability is a special request by Apple for New Mac Pro owners given that Promise doesn't normally offer their units diskless.
The diskless unit if ordered, won't be delivered until the first week of January, and I suspect that that coincides with the New Mac Pro delivery.

All assumption of course and I'd prefer it to be available right now...

Oh, come on, now you're just making up excuses out of thin air

a) Thunderbolt is *faster* than the internal SATA of your oMP

b) There is nothing inherently more reliable about whether a given drive is located inside or outside the computer's main case.

Your objections seem a bit misplaced if not irrational...

Since 12 core 5.1 wil run at the same speeds what 12 core MPmini will, there is no need to get it,

That's simply not true. The latest leaked benchmarks show the new 12-core is 20% faster than the 5,1.

I think it shows that I'm pissed at apple for not looking after Photo and video pros.

There's no doubt you're pissed, but I'm still not understanding why. I'm a photographer as well, and I don't think I could have asked for a better solution than the nMP. It's a huge performance upgrade in every department vs. my 2009 Mac Pro... at least 2-3x the CPU performance (20% in your case), 5x the SSD speed, 2x the memory bandwidth, 10x (or more) the GPU performance. And I use a NAS for archived data already, so I don't miss the lack of drive bays.

:)

I've had a drive fail on me both inside the chassis and out... and in both cases, it had nothing to do with where the drive was located.

Let's face it, the SATA2 bus in the 5,1 is 10-year old technology... and slow. Hopefully you're using some kind of PCIe storage now.

And a NAS is a perfectly good external storage solution for large volumes of media/data, particularly for someone like you with so many different systems that would likely benefit from sharing. I know... from experience :)

when i checked the other day .. the 8tb promise2 R4 was available to ship within 24hrs .. it was only the diskless one that was 2-3 weeks delivery time .. so I doubt that is when the mac pro will be available

Good points there, especially when looking at my 1,1, and the upgrades won't fix all these issues.

Let's see:

1. What actually are the GPUs that coming with the nMP since there are no such models so far (rumors don't count of course compared to an official statement)

2. Are the GPUs going to be replaceable ? And what are the plans for future GPU releases ?

3. Why only dual GPUs ? Is there any implementation that allows them to work together system-wide ?

4. Is RAM going to be replaceable ?

5. Are SSDs going to be replaceable ?

There are even more - minor - questions that they ought to answer before launch. I know many sites will tear the nMP down and answer to all these (and even more) but I would expect Apple to do that before launch, officially. Especially on a machine that is actually not an upgrade of an older one, but rather a completely new game player due to huge differences from current MP.

I don't think you're going to get any of those answers from Apple before they launch. Except for #4 since we know RAM is replaceable.

RAM and SSD are both listed as user accessible. I would bet that the GPUs are not replaceable but I can hold out hope. I've had 3 different GPUs in 2012 Mac Pro that I bought last December.
