I have both, and personally, I don't use my iPhone nearly as much as my iPad. Aside from phone calls, I'd have a hard time doing everything with the iPhone I do with the iPad. The screen size makes more than enough of a difference that having a choice, I pick the iPad every time.

I do pretty much everything with my iMac, even writing this. With iPad it wouldn´t be so convenient and easy.

Weird, same processor and the other one is faster. Looks like Apple is deceiving their customers. At least iPhone has double the RAM.

iPhone is also faster and nimble in the sense that you can pull it out of your pocket in a second to check out something. Try pulling your iPad from the backbag. Personally I don´t like walking around with a backbag either.

And the point of the iPad is portability. You don't like the iPad, you dont like carrying it, you dont like carrying it in a bag, but you want to find out new features for the next gen to see if you want to buy it.

Unless the new iPad is shrunk down to the size of an iphone, with the features of the iphone, you wont buy it....

It won't matter what you say. It's a case of the OP not considering anyone else's use case. Which, if you think about it, lacks perspective since he doesn't own or use one. He's only speculating.

LOL - then it would just be an iPhone! ;)

How convenient is it for the OP to carry around his iMac if he wanted to look at websites "on the go" and not be "crippled" by the iPhone's screen size?

Exactly. I would very rarely take iPad with me, if I was going somewhere. At home I got my iMac.

Without any iPad only features it isn´t a worthwhile device. That´s why I´m curious and speculating what features Apple might bring with the next iPad

I wouldn´t actually mind a "big iPod Touch", that would be at least a decent device. iPad is not.

Then OP clearly the iPad isn't for you. You have no need for one. Fair enough lots of people don't.

So if the iPad isn't for you I don't understand the purpose of this thread. You say that the iPad should have some stand a lone features but haven't been constructive enough to mention any.

You say you've done your research and come to the conclusion that the iPad is a "stripped down bigger iPhone" why on earth make a thread just to tell us that? If you could suggest some features that you would like the iPad to see in the future for others to discuss then you could make this thread whole much more useful and give yourself more credibility instead of resorting to opinionated dribble.

Jesus.

The screen IS an ipad only feature. If you dont like the most obvious aspect of a device then dont buy it.

Edit:

and thanks for reporting me.

Actually the iPhone is more nimble and faster than the iPad.

Of course it is Sherlock, ´cause it´s a much much better device. In fact, iPhone should be twice the price as the iPad, it´s that much better.

The iPhone is more expensive than the iPad.

Of course the iPhone is underclocked. Have you seen its battery?!

For me, being able to use the iPad on a day when I'm travelling for 10 hours, nearly non stop, with an entertainment system that failed in my seat made the iPad pretty valuable.

It replaced my netbook and iPhone for me. I have carried either an iBook, MacBook, netbook or iPad with me nearly everywhere for the last 5 years and a DSLR too now.

Of course you can use other devices to achieve the same thing, but damn, you can use Windows to achieve the same thing as your iMac. It's a personal preference. For me, I don't see the value in buying an iMac or Mac Pro over building a PC where its components are supported by OSX and installing OSX on that. You can't do this with iOS devices. The tablet form factor is going to become very popular, the iPad is the best tablet on the market, even considering features.

You have complitely misunderstood me or haven´t read the thread. Probably both.

I have made suggestions. Yes, the iPad is not for me. The next one could be, who knows?

The point is: the ipad is not for you because it is too big.

THATS THE POINT OF THE IPAD.

The next one won't be smaller because a smaller device already exists: iPhone.

How do you not understand this?

No, that´s the ONLY thing going for the iPad, but it´s not enough value for the money.

Actually the screen could be bigger IMO, but like I said it needs something else that you can´t do with the iPhone or laptop/desktop.

And you replied: "Exactly"

.. and how is it not enough value for the money? the ip4 is $850+ for 1/4th the size.

Yes according to Apple it´s suppose to be portable, but it´s not, at least not no where near portable as the iPhone, but I wouldn´t be buying it because of it´s "portability".

1080p video shooting and iMovie editing included would be one nice feature.

Yes, it is portable. I know because I carry it around with me 8-10 hours a day. and duh - of course a product 1/4th the size is more portable. Thats like saying a laptop is more portable than a desktop.

It isn't portable now, but you want it to be portable so you think a bigger screen would be ok?

So you want a 12" ipad that is magically more portable than a 10", and you want to hold the ipad out to record video. (not to mention the fact that the iphone can record and edit video, so your recommendation is something that wont be unique to the ipad.)

You are the only person on the planet that would say "i want more portability, so I'll go for the larger model"

Have you tried sitting on the couch with your iMac on your lap? how's that working out for you?? or how about reading a website on the iPhone and having to constantly pinch and zoom just to be able to read the site not to mention the constant scrolling?? Do you read any magazines on your laptop? can you turn the page by simply swiping your finger across the screen?

I can do all that and MORE! with ONE device!

Wow, what a killer feature! I´m blown away! Alert the media! :D

Any hardware feature ideas for the next iPad? That you cannot put in the iPhone?

Yeah! Who cares that the iPad's larger size adds entirely new levels of functionality and a different user experience! What it really needs for differentiation is surface level hardware gimmicks! Gimmicks which, apparently, aren't even useful enough to be self evident so that we must think really hard about them. That's the ticket! Without it, it's just a stripped down iPhone, obviosuly. Why? Because it is just a big iPhone which is stripped down. Duh.

That said, the only thing the iPad needs is to be more powerful than the iPhone. App developers should be able to go way above an beyond what is possible on an iPhone. But, I understand that given the risk involved with a first generation product in a new product category, it was a good business move to use components more or less similar to what went into the iPhone 4. It's also obvious that facetime will make an appearance on the next iPad.

So i've been away celebrating my dads birthday...

My brother and sister-in-law are here.... With their iPhone 4's and MBP.

And they bought an iPad on the way out of town....

And want a 2nd one at the rate they are "sharing" it so well!

But for my brother hanging out at the fire station and in a fire truck, I'm thinking he will wayyyyyy more enjoy it over his iP4. if he can get it away from his wife!

If you have a quick read through the OP's past threads/posts you will come to the conclusion that the only thing that would make the iPad a product worthy of his dollars is if it came with a free tin foil hat. He is one of those crazies you would ignore in the street, why interact with him here?

So you think that an iPhone is better than a MacBook Pro because it has 2 cameras, it calls, it has a Gyro, and many other things... This is stupid.

Both devices are different, the screen size is enough to make it a substantially different device, I hate surfing the web in the iPhone and love using it at my iPad. The interface that iPad apps have is outstanding, if that isn't enough then you should not buy or have an iPad, stay with an iPhone and sell your Computer and TV because the TV only displays movies and TV shows.

Many very valid points have been brought out that you (OP) have completely ignored. (and I'm not going to waist anymore time than I already have listing them) At this point, nothing is going to change your opinion.

As its already been said, this thread is exhausted. So EVERYONE, please, let this thread die. Let it die the horrible fiery death it deserves.

I think the real killer feature would be support for USB flash drives.

Hey, after 7 pages of war caused by insecure iPad owners we have finally a suggestion how to actually make the iPad better with a feature that the iPhone doesn´t have.

I guess there´s still hope for this thread! :)

I do travel a lot, but I´m not gonna destroy a movie by watching it with 10" screen. Have some respect for art man!

Oh I see, so watching a movie on a 10" screen is akin to destroying it. Does that make it impossible to watch on the iPhone? Guess the the iPad CAN do something the iPhone can't:cool:. Ha, got ya on that one! Keep rolling away though...

I don't think anyone is insecure on this thread. I think everyone is reacting to someone whom just doesn't get it. All thinking we could be the one to make you realize how stupid your point is. I could care less if you feel like you don't see a point for the iPad. I love mine and wouldn't give it up (and I own an iPhone 4). What does bother me is someone trying to push their opinions/agenda on others and slandering them as if fact. The only commonality I see in this thread is you enjoying ruffling some peoples feathers. Talk about mature

Anyway, the USB drive thing brings up a good point. One of my favorite things about the iPad is using the camera connection kit and throwing pics on it to share with everyone while on a trip. The iPhone can do.....oh wait...no it can't...;)
