I do pretty much everything with my iMac, even writing this. With iPad it wouldn´t be so convenient and easy.

I suppose you reply to these threads too while sitting on the couch watching tv on your iMac....oh wait, that's a desktop. Have fun doing it on your iPhone

Oh I see, so watching a movie on a 10" screen is akin to destroying it. Does that make it impossible to watch on the iPhone? Guess the the iPad CAN do something the iPhone can't:cool:. Ha, got ya on that one! Keep rolling away though...

By destroying I ment you ruin the experience of the movie you´re watching and you can never have that back. Therefore "destroying the movie", not destroying the actual data of the movie.

And yes, I´m being sarcastic too. Nice try though... not! Actually quite lame.

Anyway, the USB drive thing brings up a good point. One of my favorite things about the iPad is using the camera connection kit and throwing pics on it to share with everyone while on a trip. The iPhone can do.....oh wait...no it can't...;)

And yes it´s very nice also to take photos with the iPad and watch them on the bigger screen... oh wait... no you can´t!

Oh really?? I didn't realize you were being sarcastic!

I don´t own a couch or a TV either, but I actually own a very nice (and quite expensive) chair that is way better for my back than any couch.

So iPad is only for people with couches?

Yea I like taking photos with my iMac too . I do like taking pics on my iPhone 4 and putting them on my iPad. See how it can all work? Oh and I suppose that you just pass around your iMac to show everyone the pics when on a trip. I can see that working well

Oh wow you sound like the average consumer then . All your opinions must apply to everyone else as well. Do you realize what your are saying . What you said prob applies to....um...ya, no one on this thread.

I have some reading material the OP should take a look at. It's ok - you don't have to have an iPad to read it NOR an iPhone NOR a computer. You can head down to the local library and bookstore and pick it up..

I´ve used my iPhone on my friends couches many times. It´s actually very nice pulling a small device from the pocket in a situation like that. If I wouldn´t had the iPhone, I wouldn´t have been browsing at all, ´cause I definitely wouldn´t have taken the iPad with me to my friends places.

I´ve taken my MacBook Pro though many times with me to my friends places, ´cause we can actually do some serious work with it, unlike with the (current) iPad.

iPad with OS X would be a great device! This I would buy in a heartbeat.

Wow, are people actually this insecure with their iPads that they can´t take any criticism or opinions or suggestions how to make it a better device?

That was my original point of this thread.

It has been said many times in this thread, but the large screen makes ipad worth it. Its perfect for being lazy on the couch and great for tuning out tv commercials during commercial breaks between shows...easier to do that with a larger screen.

I have not seen any comment in here that shows insecurity, and yet you keep fixating on that concept.

Aha. I have something the iPad can do better than the iPhone.

It can be used to smack (some) people in the head much better than an iPhone ever could. I call that a win....

Ok, fair enough, but that just isn´t enough worth the price tag for me or anyone who owns the iPhone + Mac already, sorry but that´s just my opinion. If it would be a standalone device and someone didn´t own a Mac or iPhone already, then it could be worth it for some people.

Like I said it needs to do something that the iPhone can´t do. Doing something "better" doesn´t cut it. The iPad needs it´s own specific features and I made this thread so we could speculate what those features could be.

But I guess there are much more vain products than the iPad, so I could give you guys some slack, so you don´t feel so bad about your purchase. :)

...besides the bigger screen of course, but that´s not enough for the money. It needs to have something special, something that the iPhone doesn´t have. Preferably hardware related.

Now it just lacks lots of the features and specs that the iPhone does have. Plus iPhone has one major advantage, portability. So the iPad is basically waste of money, not even the "luxury item" that some people calls it.

Hopefully the next one will be better. So what could be that special feature, ideas?

It's fine the way it is. I use my iPad more often than my iPhone. Insecure? Not even close.

So you telling me that you would rather...

Read a book on the iPhone.
Surf the web on the iPhone.
Compose documents on the iPhone.

You must love Zooming and Scrolling then.

I fail to see the purpose of this thread. No offense to the OP but I just don't see the point.

The screen is a pretty huge factor that makes the iPad different. It is not just about the pixels but how people use them. The 10" screen makes a massive difference for those who just do not want to surf the web on a 3.5" screen.

Sort of like the difference between driving a moped in a snow storm or driving a car. Yes they both get you to point B and run off Gas or some alternative fuel source but you are going to be a heck of a lot more comfortable in the car.

For a lot of people the thing that makes the iPad way beyond a iPhone or IPT is the fact that they can use it like a computer and not a mobile device that sits in their pocket. I suggest not to live by the specs and actually use one. There is no comparison at how they are used and that makes the iPad worth it in my opinion. You could throw a million new features into the iPhone but it will always have a 3.5" screen which means it is only optimal at certain things. It isn't about the processing power but how a mobile device can be used from day to day.

Or you could take the plane in first class (laptop/desktop) and get there many hours faster.

The conclusion I´ve made from all the replies in this thread:

iPad is perfect.
No need to improve it.
Doesn´t need anymore features.
It´s magical... for couch surfing.

Maybe Apple should just leave it then the way it is now, forever... :apple:

I have both, and personally, I don't use my iPhone nearly as much as my iPad. Aside from phone calls, I'd have a hard time doing everything with the iPhone I do with the iPad. The screen size makes more than enough of a difference that having a choice, I pick the iPad every time.

I'm with you. I love my iPhone 4 but I go to my iPad 100% of the time for web, reading and video (and the occasional game, but I'm not big on gaming in general). Anyone who thinks the "retina display" on the iPhone makes it the iPad's equal in those areas needs a reality check.

And yes it´s very nice also to take photos with the iPad and watch them on the bigger screen... oh wait... no you can´t!

More like it is nice to take pictures with a real camera, then upload them directly to the iPad for viewing on a reasonable sized screen.

The key differentiating feature of the iPad is the screen. Not because you have a larger view of things, but because it enables a wider and more versatile range of software.

Hi Mr. OP, thanks for stopping by the iPad forum to troll! I just spent a few minutes reading through the posts, and you've been highly successful, responding dozens of times to us iPad fans who have wasted our money on this device. I'd say I think it could use more RAM and better USB connectivity, and how little use my MBP and iPhone have gotten in the month and a half I've had the iPad, but I don't think you could care less. You say you just want to stimulate discussion on iPad improvements? Not with a first post like that.

And, hell, I tried to resist, but now by feeding the troll I'm just as bad.

John B.

Like I said, doing something "better" doesn´t cut it.

In some situations being "better" definitely can cut it. The original iPhone didn't have any features that it's competitors didn't also have. Despite that it turned the entire smartphone market upside down. IMHO a big reason for that success is that the features in did have worked much "better" than it's competitors.

I'd say the situation is somewhat similar with the iPad; it is better at the web, email, books, magazine and games than an iPhone whilst also being more convenient than a laptop or desktop.

Wow, are people actually this insecure with their iPads that they can´t take any criticism or opinions or suggestions how to make it a better device?

That was my original point of this thread.

Making it better is one thing. I'm sure any sensible person will admit that the iPad could be improved, that even if they are satisfied with the current model, there's always room to make it better. But that's totally different from your claim that the iPad as it currently is is useless. Useless to you, not worth the money to you, doesn't mean it is useless / not worth the money for other people.

I'm also puzzled by your insistence that the iPad needs something the iPhone can't do. Does an iMac do anything a MacBook doesn't? If not, then is it useless? Because really, I can't think of anything significant that differentiates the iMac and the MacBook other than screen size and separate keyboard/mouse.

If this were the case, then how come so many iPads have been sold? If you don't like it, don't buy it. If you bought it and don't like it, return it.

It has plenty of "features" the iPhone does not have. The main one being a screen, and the screen is enough of a selling point to differ from an iPhone. The second is an unrestricted CPU.

A bigger screen is more than just something the iPad has over the iPhone. It is the REASON the iPad exists. The iPad doesn't ever need something the iPhone doesn't have, that is seriously ridiculous. Let's give the iPod Touch something the iPhone doesn't have, or the iPod Shuffle or Nano. The iPad and iPhone are Apple's key mobile products, and they will stay that way. The iPad and iPhone will share almost every aspect software-wise, and hardware-wise, save the first gen iPad.
