Google sucks at launches. They've sucked before with the Nexus S and they've sucked before with the Galaxy Nexus and they are sucking now with the Nexus 4. I agree with most of what this article says too:

"Nexus 4 Launch is a Failure" http://www.phonearena.com/news/Nexus-4-launch-is-a-failure-for-Google-Play_id36581

Having said that, you're likely only cheating yourself if you pass on a device that you wanted and will likely use daily for presumably the next year or two, maybe more.

Getting the Nexus 4 wasn't about being first or an early adopter. Getting the Nexus 4 was about getting the stock Android experience. It makes no sense to go back to a less desirable OS because you couldn't switch fast enough.

Again, don't get me wrong. I understand the frustration, but in a few weeks time, you'll be able to get it and try Android just as you had originally planned.

I think its more BS that they let people buy a many as they want only to see them go on eBay. I think they should limit it to 5 at the most. I was going to wait anyways so im not upset i didnt get one. I didnt even try and im sure i can get one within the next month or two....hoping there is a word on a 32 version by then.

I completely agree - or even 1-2 for the first few weeks. If, at the very least, you could only get one or a couple per purchase, you'd need to wade back into battle each time to get more - which would make buying 40 a lot harder.

I intentionally went 8gb since I stream all of my music, use Dropbox for photos, and don't really game on it. A lot of apps are not as important as they use to be b.c mobile Internet is so much better. Not really a reason for me to have a chase or imdb app. If you really think about the apps you use that should be enough storage...unless you have a big music collection you store locally.

Thanks. Now I feel a little better :). I won't be gaming other than Words with Friends and Scramble with Friends (shoot me lol).

I had been using iTunes Match to keep on-board music low with my 4S. I should be able to manage with "must have" music stored locally and the rest on google or amazon. Shame Apple is so non-cross-platform.

I currently have 18.4 gb used on my 4S but 9.5gb is photos & camera. Another gig or two is from games from my iPad that I do not play on iPhone. Local music storage is only .5gb. I think it might not be as bad as I think, at least to start out. But I still think ill need/want the 16gb version. ;)

For those who didn't get an N4 and who still want one, use the scripts I described a few pages ago, but change the search string to "Sold out":
Code:
#!/bin/sh

while (true)
  do
    if [ `curl -s https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=nexus_4_16gb | grep "Sold out" | wc -l` -eq 0 ]
      then
        osascript ~/Desktop/NexusEmail.scpt; exit
    fi
    sleep 10
  done
then run as described. It'll let you know when they're back in stock, or at least "coming soon."

----------

You guys need to see this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/lg-GOOGLE...76250?pt=UK_Mobile_Phones&hash=item337dc1aaba

Can't believe people are willing to pay such a high price for this.
If it's a real, valid bid, that is.

I was in class and my phone vibrated a million times. Got 4 emails and a text. Very happy that I was taking notes on my laptop because once I felt the vibrations go off I went straight to the Google Play Store. Your script worked perfectly!

It is here! :D

Very pleased so far.

Getting just over 15 meg over 3G wheres my Galaxy Nexus trundles along at just under 5 meg.

The screen is lovely (although obviouslyless colour saturated than the AMOLED on the GN). Seems smooth and I got an OTA update out of the box.

Some benchies.

Geekbench:
Nexus 7 1412
Galaxy Nexus 993
Nexus 4 1750

That's awesome! Why don't you start an N4 thread for reviews? This one's getting a bit long in the tooth, and your post would be the perfect start of a new one.

The nexus 4 is incredible value. I don't know why anyone would buy anything else, let alone the iphone 5!

It's £300 cheaper, has a better screen, looks better, has a better OS, has better hardware and has good battery life!

getting one!!

The thing is, for those who are willing to stay on a contract, it's comparably priced.

The screen quality is, in most reviews, seen as less than that of the iPhone 5.

The looks are a matter of personal preference, and I could easily see choosing the iPhone 5 over the Nexus 4, and vice versa.

The OS is arguably comparable, not better or worse, although, for specific people, it can be better or worse than iOS 6.

The quality of hardware is arguable as well. The certainties are that the iPhone 5 has a better camera (according to most, in terms of photo quality) and half the RAM. Lots of the rest depends on your point of view.

Battery life is a clear win for the iPhone 5, by a large margin.

For me - remember, I bought a Nexus 4 yesterday! - the factors combine to make the N4 a winner. I could easily see others choosing the other way, though. It's not all that cut and dried.
