It doesn't "bother me".....I'm simply curious - don't really understand the logic behind why Google does it the way they do.

That's fine though - my phone works without 4.4.1. Looking forward to when it will work BETTER with 4.4.1.

And I do stick to my iPhone - just so happens I have a separate phone for work and "play" and I find it redundant having two iPhones.

----------

I thought you were kidding....but apparently you're serious and this is for real.

WTF?

He is kidding. Hitting the refresh doesnt do anything. There was a writeup about it and doing that wont do anything for you.
But it does look like 4.4.2 started today.

It's because I'm comparing to my experience with my iOS devices that I wonder why Google can't do a better job with roll outs.

Oh well - I think we've ruffled enough feathers here. Time to go back to singing kum-bah-yah and only saying good things about the Nexus 5 and Google in general :D

4 days I believe? If it gets to a week I'll let everyone here know, I can assure you :p

You do realize that Apple only has to worry about a few countries putting a load on their servers and the majority of the load comes from the U.S. I mean, when you only have 4-5% marketshare in the rest of the world, it is easy to compensate server loads on a times rollout over 24 hours. Google has to not only deal with 5-6 times the number of handsets of Apple, it also has to keep nearly half of all internet traffic going! I think they handle roughly 40% of worldwide internet traffic?

Just think about that and realize how well Google manages everything compared to the tiny amount of data Apple serves out in comparison, for updates and iCloud. This is not a slam at Apple or you, this is just something most people don't realize. I mean, if Google crashed the internet, I gotta wonder how many riots would start throughout the world? Seriously. If the internet failed, people would go batsh#$ crazy! This is something Apple doesn't have to contend with. I'm not giving Google a pass, they should be getting out these updates within a day of release, but it is amazing how well they do, considering.

Huh? You honestly think there are 5-6 times more Nexus devices than iPhones? LOL. I can pretty much guarantee you there are more of just the iPhone 5s out there than every Nexus device combined.

Doesnt the Moto X have 4.4? I get what your saying but the Nexus 5 still went out to other countries and i assume the update will also go to the N4.

Here is the problem with your statement.

1. No one knows how many iPhone 5S's have been sold, except Apple and they do not give that information out.
2. No one knows how many Nexus devices have been sold, except Google, and they do not give that information out.
3. Nexus devices are not the only devices that get updated by Google.

We know the 5s sold well over 9 MILLION in its opening weekend and analysts say its going to top 30 million total by end of the year now that supply has finally caught up to demand. Throw all the iPhone 5 and 4s into the mix...yeah. The only phone on the planet that has come anywhere close to iPhone sales has been the Galaxy line and even that isn't really close. No way Nexus device sales total are even a quarter of iPhones.

In anycase, since 4.4.2 is out today, there is your reason why 4.4.1 isnt getting out as fast and the reason they only release it to 1% of users at first to see how it works. Hence why the 4.4.2 release already.

Relax people, you will get it.

You realize that your claim of "5-6 times the number of handsets" means just as much as what he said (not a whole lot)?

Actually, the number is higher if you want to look at sheer marketshare numbers. 80% of the handsets sold in the world today are based on Android. Some of those are white box labeled, and some are Chinese based, which is why I don't give any hard numbers. Considering Samsung all by itself sells nearly 3 times the number of smartphones Apple does every quarter, five to six times was a safe bet.

Why are you talking about Chinese based Android handsets or Samsung devices? You guys were arguing about why Google does staged rollouts of updates. Google only provides updates to Nexus handsets.

We 'know' the 5S sold 9 million in its opening weekend? Really?

In reality, we are pretty sure that Apple sold 9 million 'iPhones' (aka 5S and 5C together), but Apple won't say how many 5S's were sold.
And we know that Google sold out of Nexus 5's in 45 minutes. But Google won't say how many that was.
These are the only facts we know of, since they come from the company. Your wishful thinking won't change the facts.

Again, it's nice to have your opinion, but it still doesn't mean squat.

Really? You sure? I guess, HTC, Samsung, LG, Motorola, etc don't get their images from Google? Very strange.

LOL you really think Google builds every Android handset update images to all the companies??

They build their images from Google's source code, add their changes/UI/drivers and release them on their own servers.

So those of us who didn't get 4.4.1 will go straight to 4.4.2?

Why release a bug fix point release if its got bugs you have to fix 4 days later?

no one received 4.4.1 OTA...only people who sideloaded got it. People today are already getting 4.4.2. It does jump straight from 4.4 to 4.4.2

I'm almost positive people got 4.4.1 OTA because there were reports of such....

Well - looking forward to 4.4.2.....whenever.

I couldn't find a single person on any forums who got it OTA. I know they announced it was live, but no one ever mentioned they received it. People on AC are stating they are getting 4.4.2 already and never got 4.4.1

Well again, thats why they release only to 1% to start, to see if there are bugs or so it is said. Would you prefer to get an update with bugs so you can complain even still or get 4.4.2 that came out right away to fix them?

Just cant please everyone.

From reading in here, iOS still has bugs and i dont see an update in sight for that.

What was the question? Why would you release a bug fix to release another 4 days later? :p

Apple isnt exempt from doing these things. Never have been. Id like to think your always looking to improve things if it needs it.
