Yeah I don't get the fuss with the loose buttons. The power button on my brand new retina Mini wiggles a little bit and rattles slightly if I shake it, almost all of them do. Most Apple products had this behavior, it's in no way indicative of poor quality.

Yeah I know. People just look for a reason to hate something because it is not what they choose to use. I have the N5 and iPhone 4S. Both are solid built phones, but made much different. Just because LG and google decided to use plastics does not mean it is cheap. Apple chooses glad and metal. Glass breaks much easier than plastic, so would not mean that the iPhone is not as well built? Not at all. I am so sick hearing people complain. Use the phone. It works fine.

Agree, the buttons on my Nexus 5 are much tighter than on my GS3 and they never rattled and the vibrate on my GS3 is much stronger than on my N5.

There have been three builds so far the N5...on the box serial number, first builds start with 310K....most issues and loosest buttons, 311K second batch, seems to be a good batch, first revisions, slightly loose buttons and now 312K has the latest revision with bigger holes, slightly bigger buttons that fit the slots better to fit tighter.

Mine is a 311K and my buttons dont bother me and in fact only the power button moves just bit and it has the smaller speaker holes.

I mean they are dreaming buttons. They work don't they? Who freaking cares if they move around a bit. Fine me a phone that is perfectly made then people can complain.

Im with ya but some people find the littlest things to complain about. Ive seen that here as well with those who say their buttons arent flush enough or stick out too far... those are petty imo.

Yeah I know. I just don't he it, but whatever. I enjoy my N5 and that's all I should care about.

TPU.

This is the first time im using a dual layer case though with TPU interior and and hard plastic exterior. Its a Slim Armor case made by Spigen. Really liking it so far.

I like tpu better

Have to agree.

I had a tpu on my iphone for 2 years and barely showed any marks. main benefit i see in hard plastic is that theyre noticibly slimmer, but it wont protect ot as well and wont last as long.

Also TPu gives more grip.

I think TPU sells better too. Everyone i know uses tpu.

I've been using my N5 for about two weeks, and absolutely love this phone. Looking at the serial on the box (311K) I must have the second run?? Either way, the buttons are perfect and have had no issues with speaker volume. This phone is great.

I tend to use my phones without cases, and this phone has felt great doing just that.

Those that have ordered a replacement....when sent the replacement link, did you just do it as if you were buying one and you just didnt get charged? Looks like an order form.

I called today after i wasnt getting any vibration from my Nexus 5. Guy sent me instructions on what to do since i was on the device and couldnt do it while talking. Did factory reset and it wouldnt connect to wifi. Told him issue and he sent me a replacement link.

In between getting a replacement link from the first guy.........

I did talk to someone else who talked me thru some things and after a while, it all got dialed in again.

Then i got an email for the replacement link. Clicked on it and it shows what i stated above.

Not sure if ill order a replacement or not though im thinking about it.

it does look like an order form, and your credit card does get charged an authorization, but that sticks only if you don't return the original device.

So I finally got to Best Buy to play around with the N5 and I must say I was impressed. It feels great in the hand seems fast and the screen is amazing. This will be my next phone. As soon as money enters my pockets.;)

I got my N5 2 weeks ago, an upgrade from an iPhone 4. My comments:

Nice large crisp screen
Very lite
OS is very fluid (iOS was very laggy)
Dropbox works MUCH better on Android
'Keep' is a very nice app to have
No iTunes - thank you!
When I connect to a PC I get the phones directory structure
Can add a ringtone by simply putting it in the right folder (*.ogg foimat)
The wireless charging is cool

One poor issue:
Battery live is much worse then the iphone (and I am just on 3G)

YMMV, but I have pretty good battery life by:

Turning off Bluetooth ( I never user it)
Going in to location services settings and changing to battery saving ( unless I'm actively using Google maps )
Turning off hot word detection for "OK Google"
Personal preference - auto brightness is often too bright. Since the screen is the number one consumer of battery, you can keep brightness down and still be OK.

I too came from an iPhone 4. It's actually a joy to use a mobile device again.

My nexus 7 battery has improved twice or more since I flashed a custom kernel.

Maybe you guys should try one on the Nexus 5. I'm using ElementalX.

I get 1 hour screen on time for every 8% (if not gaming).

I have actually been able to do this with .mp3 files.

I had bad battery life out of the box too. The best way to improve battery life is to root it and install apps like wakelock detector, GSam battery stats, and CPU spy (all of these are free). These will help you determine what exactly is causing battery drain.

For me, my biggest battery hog was Plex for Plex Pass. The problem was that this app, even without ever being used or opened, kept my phone from going into deep sleep. This means that when the CPU in the phone would normally be barely taking any power, it was actually stuck on the lowest clock speed instead. This took a big hit on my battery. I was loosing 4-5% every hour without ever using my phone. But after pinpointing the app, I uninstalled it and noticed a huge difference. CPU spy is what helped me here.

Also, with wakelock detector, I found that FaceBook was causing a bunch of wakelocks. Now to be completely honest, I don't know exactly what wakelocks are. I know that they are not good for your battery. In the FB app, I turned off notifications, messenger, and everything you could think of. Wakelock detector was still showing a bunch of wakelocks. So I uninstalled the app and added the FB bookmark from Chrome to my home screen. Now when I need to use FB, I just use it in Chrome.

There are a couple other settings I have changed. Also, another important thing to consider is flashing a custom kernel. I installed Franco Kernel. Custom kernels don't help so much when you use the phone, but you will likely notice a difference in idle power drain. For example, I left my phone unplugged last night. After 10 hours of being unplugged, it only lost 4%. So now with 24 hours off the charger, I can get ~4 hours SOT, even close to 5 with lighter usage. That is with location on, Google Now on, sync on, etc.

The biggest issue with battery drain is mostly third party apps. When I had battery problems, people just kept telling me pointless stuff like "check bluetooth, NFC, wifi, blah blah blah." I wish someone would have told me what I know now. Because really, it all depends on what apps you have installed. And people install different apps. So one person telling you what settings to turn off and on won't always work because you two are using your phones differently with different apps installed. If you want to improve battery life, don't worry about those things. Root your phone, install those battery apps to help figure out what is causing battery drain, and start troubleshooting. That is my advice.

Bluetooth wasn't on....
Location services > changing to battery saving - Done!
Turning off hot word detection for "OK Google" - Will do that next (have to find it)

Ringtone / MP3
I saw they were all *.ogg, so I actually never tried mp3 (I think). I have Audacity and conversion is easy anyway.

What kind of battery life have you been getting?
