Bluetooth wasn't on....
Location services > changing to battery saving - Done!
Turning off hot word detection for "OK Google" - Will do that next (have to find it)

Ringtone / MP3
I saw they were all *.ogg, so I actually never tried mp3 (I think). I have Audacity and conversion is easy anyway.

Long press home screen (empty space), Settings -> Voice -> Hotword Detection

Or in the google now screen scroll to the bottom and choose the 3 vertical dots, then choose settings.

What do people like more, tpu or hard plastic cases?

I prefer hard plastic because it's much thinner and holds on to the phone better. I haven't tried Spigen, but all the other TPU cases I've had added too much bulk to the phone. Something like 2mm may not sound like much but makes a world of difference in the hand, especially for an already large phone like a Nexus 5.

The only time I'll go to TPU/plastic is when protection is my #1 concern (not weight or bulk), such as with the iPad Mini since the kids play with it.

I ordered a replacement because of my post above this one #4337 but since i have talked to a Support person i really dont have any issues. It is running great and everything working fine.

The only thing i can complain about is a little little bit loose power button which dont really bother me and the wifi signal isnt as strong as other devices in the house. When i have my phone with me at a hotel for example, it isnt at ful strength but when i turn on my laptop w/ wifi, it is at full strength from the same room.

I guess i can hope for a little better battery life but mine isnt bad now. I kinda feel bad they are sending one out but i can always return that one ....cant i? Maybe illl get one with bigger holes or something, i dont know.

Found it, just had no time at that Seconds yesterday....

Battery seems better. Biggest hog ytd was 'Google Play Services' - but today it's just at 2%

Little drawback, Google maps is not doing a current location right now with switching 'locations' on. But since I knew where I was it wasn't a huge issue.

Has anyone in here recently purchased a N5 and if so, how long did it take to reach your house? I'm thinking of ordering one tonight or tomorrow but am worried it may not get to my house in time (Oregon) by the time I go back to school (Sun Jan 5) as Xmas eve, Xmas, NYE and NY's are during the week this year.

Thanks in advance!

Quick question.

LG G2 or Nexus 5?

I can get the G2 (32GB) for 130€ and the Nexus 5 for 339€ (16GB).

Today I tried the G2 again and saw quite a bit of lag. I like the bigger battery, camera and better price. On the other hand the Nexus has absolutely no lag, amazing developing community with great mods and tweaks and more updates.

Okay so I have a weird folder in my Gallery that I can't seem to get rid of. Tried a bunch of things but nothing worked. Any suggestions how to delete this?

Wouldn't you be able to simply get into the file system and delete said folder?

FYI - can't wait for them to ditch the gallery app and go with the photos app solely. That was something I wasn't happy seeing in 4.4....MORE redundancy.

On my Nexus 7 I also get repeated folders in the pictures app sometimes. For example, now I've got the torrents folder repeated. It's the folder where I download torrents (TV shows).

Anyone know how to fix this? I tried rebooting and deleting one of the folders (doesn't work, since it deletes the contents).

Does anyone else find the phone app sort of annoying on calls? The proximity sensor works but sometimes it pulls up like Time/Date screen and other crap, and screen locks while on a call, etc etc.

I can't put my finger on it but its not perfect.

I've found that Franco Kernel has drastically improved the battery life on my Nexus 5. Mainly with idle time, but still a huge improvement. Especially when I am in areas with poor cellular coverage. For those experiencing not so great battery life, I highly recommend trying Franco Kernel.

I haven't had that issue, but I always lock my phone and forget that I did that so the proxy sensor becomes inactive.

I turned off Google location reporting and Google Now and since then my battery only goes down 2% overnight. As useful as these things may be I don't think they are worth the significant battery drain. If I could get over my fear of rooting and flash franco kernel I think my phone would be quite the beast when it comes to battery life especially compared to what I had before it (3GS on iOS 6).

Now that the speaker volume and camera have been fixed too I really couldn't be happier with this phone! :)

Rooting Nexus 5 is easiest compared to others. It took me appx. 10 minutes to unlock bootloader, root and install recovery. There are several methods to do it, but I most prefer CF-Auto Root method.
Instead of flashiing 'franco kernel', I use 'CPU Tuner' to control cpu's usage.
The camera is definitely much better with 4.4.2. Auto-focus and snap picture are much faster. The night shot also improved than previous version.

Going to buy the Spigen hybrid case. This phone needs a little bit more weight.

It's so light it's uncomfortable. Feels fragile. I hope the case makes it heavier.

Also will buy a screen protector from Spigen.

I'm really impressed with the auto brightness in this phone. Every phone I've ever tried the auto brightness was horrible (always darker than it should be). With this one the feature works perfectly :D

Wow, that was really easy thank you. :) I read other guides for root online intended for other Android devices and it seemed way too daunting or didn't have instructions for Mac users but this process took only a few minutes (not counting the time it took to redownload all my apps).

I find that the Nexus 5 errs on the side of too bright than too dim. My iPhone 5 seems to react slower in changing brightness than the Nexus does. Then again, my iPhone 5 seemed to react faster than my dad's 5S, lol.
