I scratched my head wondering how people like it. It's a flat slab. The Moto X is curved to sit perfectly in the hand. Everyone has different preferences. I'm frustrated only because I really want the Nexus but I want it to be the size of the Moto X. Every year flagship devices get bigger and bigger. I read that the Galaxy S5 is going to be 5.25". If this trend continues I'll be stuck using low-end phones.

Lol, its not quite the flat squared off, no curve at all slab the iPhone is and its just a tad taller than my GS3 and a millimeter or two narrower. Again, to each their own.

Okay, first weird thing happened today.

Woke up and my Nexus 5 didn't turn on. Turns out battery was at 0%, but when I went to sleep it was at 89% and I had everything turned off: Wi-Fi, BT, airplane mode, sync off, brightness at 40%, etc.

Only thing I did yesterday was installed some new apps (one of them Google Translate).

What could have caused this? Can an app take 89% of battery in one night? Even if airplane mode was activated?

This has never happened before on any of my other Android devices (SGS3, Nexus 10 and 7).

The apps are themer beta, nds4droid, power toggles, tap tap tap and digical.

Most likely Themer Beta is, or was, causing constant wakelocks during the night. It is a Beta after all. Personally, I'm not a fan of the app.

I remember this being discussed a few months back on a podcast (Android App Addicts or This Week in Google) and they commented on how the Moto X fits perfectly in smaller to average sized hands. The ergonomic curved design has been well received by pretty much everyone. It just feels very comfortable.

And personally, if I had to choose, I would pick the Moto X over the Nexus 5, but I have no issues with the feel of my Nexus 5 in my hand (and that is with a Neo Hybrid case on it too!) But I am 6'1" tall with larger hands than the average person, so I don't consider either phone very large. But I def see your point.

I gave up my Nexus 5 back before they camera and software updates... has the speaker volume/ clarity gotten a lot better or just marginally better? Considering a switch back. Aside from the poor speaker quality (and Google now hoarding the left of my home page) I didn't mind it at all.

Every reviewer has complained about the speaker, saying it is bad quality. Google issued a software update that makes it louder, but I think it's just a band aid fix to cover the cases where the speaker volume was really low. When they do this stuff, they also risk causing distortion.

Aside from the speaker, people have complained about faulty vibrator, choppy youtube/video playback, mic noise cancellation problems when filming, loose buttons, too aggressive throttling, and probably something more.

I looked at a survey though, and if I remember correctly, around 90% said they were satisfied with the phone and had no issues.

That is really my biggest complaint. Video playback is choppy on youtube. It is the same way on the n7

I read up on this, and some say it was fixed in the latest update. Some say it wasn't. Some say it affects all video playback, not only youtube (mainly HD 1080p). Some say it affects only youtube. I've heard it all. Impossible to draw any conclusions...

I saw the choppy youtube playback myself (a 1080p) when I tried out a N5 in a store.

Just checked on mine and no YouTube stutter problems. It's perfectly fine.

My two problems are the vibration motor being too weak and only 16GB storage.

I may be crazy but I'm thinking of going back to my old SGS3 :eek: I know, I know...

The Nexus 5 is definitely better, but there are some things I miss from my SGS3: having 48GB of storage (I do a lot of 1080P video recording), having an icon appear on the status bar when I activate 3G, the better vibration, the blocking mode (this is the best feature for me in a phone), being able to set different vibration levels, etc.

I would miss the beautiful IPS display of the Nexus 5. It's so much more nicer than AMOLED panels... and much brighter.

I think it is more of a matter if you notice it or not. I have seen it on every single n5 and n7 I have seen. My GF does not notice it.

I used two different Nexus 5s and never noticed any video playback stuttering or at least it wasn't enough to make me notice it if there was any.

Trust me, I would notice the stutter if it was there. I really checked carefully, and I'm very good at checking for problems in every single device I buy. I didn't see anything.

What do you guys think of this battery life?

I'm at 57% right now. 7 hours unplugged. 1:15 hours screen on time.

Normal? Decent? Bad?

Is this the same you guys are getting?

I'm using ElementalX kernel with stock ROM.

Honestly, its been a month now since I got the N5 and Ive never been so frustrated with this thing. So many basic things that this thing fails on, simple stuff like copying and pasting where it isnt as smooth as it should be. Or having to delete each text in the Hnagouts App, one at a time? What?! The POS hangouts app decided to crap the bed on me tonight, just out of nowhere I couldnt send texts to two receipents, but it was fine for everyone else. So I figured after ending trying of a million other things, the only thing to try is a reset. So I backup in the menus, which IMO is piss poor, it doesnt even give you confirmation that is successful.

Did a factory reset tonight and WOW, it doesnt even restore all my icons on my screens or the widgets? Doesnt even restore any images or music or files I had on. What the hell kind of restore is that?! Apple has it right, where it has everything restored exactly like how it was before, down to the wallpaper that you have. Google calls this a restore? Whatever.

Now I have to spend hours readjusting all my settings, putting my music back on, doing all my icons again. This is absolutely unacceptable for a smartphone. Something that takes less than 15mins on an Apple device, takes that amount of time just to turn the phone off on the N5. Thank you Google.

Good mother of god, im pissed.

You clearly get what you pay for with the N5.

It restores it back to the way you got it....with nothing on it. It will reload all your apps and contacts...if you saved them to Google. Should still have any pics on there too. At least my Samsung did.

If your having that many problems why dont you just call Google and tell them and ask for a replacement? I dont have those issues you are talking about. In fact i dont have any issues now since i talked to them about a couple small things but i have a replacement coming on Thursday.

I might just sent it back though. Ill check it out but the only thing it could do that mine dont is have a better speaker and maybe better battery life but its not like i have issues there either.

Thats what i would do if i were you.

I understand its a full wipeout, I just dont understand how it says its a backup and restore in the menu settings when its clearly not that. Im just shocked that theres no way to fully restore on an Android device, and you have to spend hours getting your stuff back on. Like really, is this 1991 we are living in? Reminds me when I reformated my Win 98 PC hard drive and spent the day installing all my programs back on. All this can be done in 15mins on any Apple device.

What Im more pissed about is how the hangouts app just decided to crap on me tonight and I had to restore the whole entire phone just to get my sms messages sending again! Like what the **** is that? Ive never seen anything as beyond garbage as that. Just ridiculous if you ask me. If this happens again where hangouts just wants to randomly decide to disable my outgoing texts to two and only two of my contacts, this phone is going out my window. I have never and I mean NEVER EVER seen or experienced such a bizarre and retarded problem like that EVER in my life.

Google backup and restore is a joke. Everyone knows that. Why do you think the Play Store has so many backup apps? Google, the largest search engine and arguably the largest email provider can't even restore a cell phone. Apple does do this so much better. Google basically just jots down the names of the apps you have installed. That's it. Apple basically takes a system image and puts it in iCloud for a full restore. Much better.

And hangouts sucks. Do yourself a favor and get textra.

Sounds more like you're new to Android and not sure how to use it. Maybe an iPhone would be better for you.

Blows me away that you need a 3rd party app like Liteflow to control and actually get the notification LED to work. And even then it doesnt work half of the time. What a pain in the ***** . Just dont know how google missed not having any LED adjustment option aside from on/off in the menus.

I hated iphone 4 and dont want 5 cause the screeen is too small, but at least the iphone just works and has very basic stuff like showing popups when you miss calls or receive texts!!! On N5, you need the Light Flow app for it, and the main reason why I have Lightflow app is to have the screen turn on when I get texts. That way i dont have to push the power button every single ****** time, like you normally have to on this phone!!!! And it drove me nuts!!! How does the phone NOT have an option for this in the menus is beyond me, it should be automatic. Hell, Im shocked that the screen turns on when you receive calls! I dont need a 3rd party app for that! Yay!!!

But even then when I miss calls, you wont even know unless you check with the dropdown or go into the phone icon yourself! This is VERY basic stuff that I just dont understand how google completely didnt nail.

The LED light not working properly is a widescreeen problem, look at the googleforums, theres a 15 page thread with owners having the same problem. My LED flashes for 1 sec just as a call is about to come in then doesnt come back on until the call is stopped. wtf is that?

If your not willing to ask for a replacement then i dont know what to tell you. Thats on you because it seems you have a issue.

You can also just ask what apps you can get to make it do what you want instead of complaining like you are.
Get the app Popup free or get the paid version and that will turn your screen on for as long as you set it to stay on to see a text and anything else you want to pop up when you recieve it...like an email, or any app you check off in your list.

I dont use Lightflow. Drains the battery too much when i had it on my GS3. Havent tried it on my Nexus 5.

If the Nexus isnt for you, then id just get another phone. I was perfectly fine with my GS3 and id go back to Samsung. Ive come to find that overall ive come to appreciate Touchwiz, even if i never used the launcher which i hated.

Received my N5 yesterday after returning my iphone5S and this phone is blowing my mind!
I can't believe the OS, size of screen and quality of google services for the price.
I'll miss game such as device6 etc. but such is life and I'll survive.
I love how photos upload to google+ with the auto-awesome feature.
Loving this phone so much.

Ok, so just found out another "slight" problem.

When recording videos there's a noise present many times, like a distortion that comes from the microphone.

It's another known problem over at XDA.

Not sure if it's hardware or software related. Sounds more like a microphone problem, so it should be hardware.

For those of you who have the Nexus 5 16GB, can anyone tell me how much usable storage space there is out of the box. Thanks!

If I remember correctly 12,30GB. After installing apps it comes down to 11,76GB.

I couldn't tell. However, after installing all my apps (2GB included data), pics, music and video (3GB), also Titanium backup 1GB, I have more than 5GB left. If I make a nandroid backup, it would reduce to appx. 3GB.
