The Nexus 5 I bought has exceeded my expectations significantly.
If there's one reminder here, it's that there's quite a difference between reading the reviews and actually owning and using the phone on a day to day basis. In my case the pros greatly exceeded the cons, and the result is wonderful. So much so, it set off a chain reaction in my household. Everyone liked it so much I ended up buying three more to replace their iPhone's.
Frankly I was especially surprised that my wife was so keen to give up her 5S, yet it was the lure of the larger 5" display that did it. Another draw for her is it's clean looks and absence of a physical home button. Ever since having one fail on her iPhone 4S, she's been concerned about another failure. That was exacerbated by the failed home button on my iPhone 5.
Too bad Apple procrastinated so long, it would have been nice to see what a larger iPhone is like yet frankly for my usage Android 4.4.2 is a huge upgrade over iOS 7. Having easy access to the file system is a big advantage for me, as is the fact that it interfaces so easily with my MBP.
At the end of the day the experience spawned a wave of Android purchases. Curiosity caused me to add a line and a Galaxy Note 3. Then a Nexus 7 to compare to my terrific iPad mini. Both of these Androids are also impressive, it's a refreshing change and quite a nice boost in productivity. Due in large part to the very fast and enjoyable SWYPE keyboard.
I remain an ardent Apple computer enthusiast, who's now converted to Android as a smartphone platform. It's a great combination.
