So the Nexus 9 seems to be on the way and there's a rumor that it and Google L will be unveiled on October 16. Might we quietly hope that the Nexus 6 will be revealed at the same time.......?

I would think so. I really really hope they make a smaller phone!

I hope they have the balls to make two sizes. I know it's unlikely maybe and would mean a huge investment on their side, but they really have an opportunity here.

Offer a pure Android handset using the celebrated design cues of the N5, of course with Android L running from the start, and a ca. 4" screen to soak up dismayed iPhone users who don't want to go big. Top of the line specs (camera and sound at least acceptable).

And at the samt time - offer a 5.7" (or bigger) screen phablet in a slim footprint to soak up those who don't like TouchWiz nor the huge bezels on the 6 Plus.

I know it's a wet dream though....and particularly unlikely as they would probably have made sure to intentionally leak such a plan ahead of the iPhone 6/Plus introduction.

But, one can dream ;)

Next-gen Nexus hardware to be unveiled in mid-October, Android L hits November 1st
http://www.androidauthority.com/next-gen-nexus-hardware-529418/

Looking for more details on the matter? Thanks to two different sources familiar with Google’s plans, we have learned that the HTC Nexus 9 will be unveiled on either October 15th or the 16th. Additionally there is mention of new phone hardware ( the rumored Moto Nexus?) and the unveiling of “a new software initiative”, which likely refers to Android L’s final release.

I would hope there is a second generation Nexus 5 and a new Nexus 6. Seems like the most reasonable response to the new iPhones

Yeah, right on. I guess that's what I was trying to say lol. 8)

Though that still leaves that 4" screen up for grabs, but I guess an updated N5 makes more sense anyway.

The more rumors I read about the Nexus 6, is it will be be the size and shape of the new Moto X ( 2014 ), but with different internal hardware;

- 5.2" screen
- Snapdragon 805
- Android L of course
- 3GB RAM

No word on battery size yet, or camera.

A part of me thinks maybe google will learn from previous Nexus devices and improve the camera by a lot (as Nexus's are usually lacking in the camera department), but honestly I wouldn't be surprised if the N5/N6 phone was a step below the other flagships.

I would love to see a much better camera but it seems like if they want to keep the price way down they can't have everything as good as the other flagship phones.

If it's a Motorola device you could forget it.

I seriously doubt the screen size would be 5.2" after Apple released a 5.5" screen. Google can't afford to be the laughing stock of Apple. ("Why get a Nexus? It's smaller then the Plus!")

More than likely the Nexus 6 will have a 5.5" - 5.9" screen.

FYI, the Nexus phones are not meant to be an iPhone competitor, that's not their gig. That's up to Samsung and their Galaxy S6 and HTC's One line. And the main iPhone 6 size is 4.7", that's the big seller.

The Nexus phones are developers phones, and Google decides what size screen they want to use for developers every year. There's no rhyme or reason to it. Well I'm sure there is internal there that we don't know.

If the Moto X ( 2014 ) is 5.2" and Motorola has the contract to build the Nexus 6, I would bet it's based off that 5.2" Moto X, per the rumors.

Each year the Nexus phone screen size goes up a little bit, the Nexus 4 had a 4.7" screen, the Nexus 5 a 4.99" screen, the Nexus 6 will then most likely have a 5.2"

I'd rather the screen stay the same size and the bezels get smaller. That seems to be too much to ask for nowadays, though. Everything just gets bigger for the sake of being bigger.

Exclusive: This is ‘Shamu,’ Motorola’s upcoming Nexus 6/X
http://9to5google.com/2014/09/24/exclusive-this-is-shamu-motorolas-upcoming-nexus-6x/

The device we’ve learned about is actually going to pack a 5.92-inch screen, as mentioned above, with QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440. This dense screen according to our calculations comes out to be 498 PPI—a fairly impressive number for any smartphone. As such, it’s going to have a battery that is equally impressive, packing 3,200 mAh to power all of those pixels.

As for the camera, it’s actually going to be a 13 MP shooter on the back, and as previously rumored, we can corroborate that it should have the ability to shoot 4K UHD video at launch. As for the front shooter, the device is going to have a 2 MP shooter that is indentical to the one on the 2nd generation Moto X.

All of this said, these details do not rule out that there might actually be more than one Nexus 6/X from Motorola. Devices with screens of 5.2-inches have definitely appeared in benchmark applications, and it’s hard to deny that those must be real prototypes somewhere in the wild. In fact, Apple just released two devices at one time which would make such a move all the more plausible. Also of note is that with specs this great, we have to consider the slim possibility that this ‘Shamu’ might not even be a Nexus at all. But with the right price tag, it could be the best Nexus ever. Everything that we’ve seen points to this being at least one of the next slew of Nexus devices, but I must stress that there’s definitely a possibility that this could just be a phablet that is up and coming in Motorola’s lineup.

Definitely holding on with buying either Note 4 or iPhone 6 Plus until we've heard for sure what will become of this one. A 6" screen remains my wet dream, especially with the screen framed as effectively as the with the Moto X design.

If it does prove to be this behemoth of a phone, I'm sure they'd come out with a smaller version too. I just can't see them being stupid enough to go 6" or nothing.

Exciting times! :)

I hope it comes with front facing stereo speakers. I am surprised how none of the manufacturers are copying HTC's killer feature.

As well they should. The speaker on the back of my Note is actually really annoying.

These are still just rumors, and keep this in mind in the new leak;

"but I must stress that there’s definitely a possibility that this could just be a phablet that is up and coming in Motorola’s lineup."

This 5.9" Motorola Phablet, could just be a Moto X Phab, and not the Nexus 6, and the new Nexus may still be a 5.2" model.

Why 5.9 seriously??

Are they not listening?

We want more!! 5.9 is not enough! We need phones with screens as big as 7 inches and more!

Nah but seriously relax guys, there is no way in hell that they'll come out with a 5.9" Nexus only. It would be just an unthinkably bad business decision. IF this thing is actually a Nexus, then they have to be planning a smaller version as well. Probably more likely that it's just a Motorola phablet that they're releasing to test the ground now that even Apple has gone huge.

I will go on record now and predict this;

- Nexus 6 will be a 5.2" device

- There may be a Nexus X 5.9" Phablet, but most likely this 5.9" Phablet is a Motorola Droid device, and not a Nexus.

Specs are correct, the 5.2" Nexus 6 will be running a Snapdragon 805, 3GB RAM, 1440p resolution, 13mp Camera, and no word on battery yet, but please even if this is a 5.2" device, do not copy the Moto X's 2,300mAh battery, but instead do the rumored 3,200mAh battery.

That is my only concern if the Nexus 6 is 5.2", that Google will put in a tiny wimpy battery.
