I think $549? .... maybe $599.
[doublepost=1468325309][/doublepost]

I do forget MacRumors is not a development community, but it is just silly how many here are "disappointed" in the Nexus line while they sit there with their locked $800 smartphones. Then they go on to love how open Android is, but say stock is boring. And it just goes right over their heads that with a truly open phone , like the Nexus, you can make it whatever you want it to be.

Definitely a great point. My disappointment is that we can't have both. A flagship Nexus without compromises AND have the freedom of unlocked vanilla Android. I'd buy that in a second.

Because Sony would add proprietary touches to the OS, lockdown the hardware, and add $300 to the price tag. Then it won't be so desirable.
Weren't they accused of putting rootkits on their phones to track people?

Given the lacklustre reception the X range has received so far and if they don't sell, the declining smartphone sales will likely see Sony abandoning its mobile division completely. At the moment it's nothing but a black hole to the company.

And that'd be deserved. Sony doesn't know what the heck they're doing with their mobile division.

They haven't for a good while now, there was already talk of them exiting from smartphones, honestly I think if we were to see one casualty in the android space in the next 12 months it would be Sony. They are taking mid range phones which are readily available in the $200-250 price range and trying to shift them as flagships at $500-600. In an already concentrated space it seems like disaster waiting to happen.

It really makes no sense.

Just Sony being Sony. Look at their TV line for the same story. They think their brand sells.... it did. But not as much anymore. Their very top tier stuff is nice quality, still not worth the price tag imho. But their "mid tier" prices are a joke.

Sony USED to be king of high end TVs, but that was a long time ago now.

LG's OLED TV's are known as the top of the line, as are Panasonic's OLED, for the true audiophiles. And Sony's aren't really on that list anymore.

Smartphones, Sony is just another cog in the wheel, not much of a player compared to Apple and Samsung for sure.

Laptops and other gadgets, Sony has faded away.

Today in 2016, a young kid won't even really know the Sony name brand, besides that they make the PlayStation.

Nokia mobile products are developed by HMD Global now? Knowing nothing about them, besides the trademarked name, why exactly would you want Nokia to make a Nexus?

The "it's not impossible" was referring to Blackberry.

As for Nokia? Good design and their camera are probably the top two reasons.

I would love to see a Nokia Nexus.....
They make great phones and their cameras were always top of the line.
They released a statement in May saying they were coming back to making phones again...

Well again, that is HMD, a company founded to make the Nokia branded phones. We don't really know anything about what they can do. Looking forward to what they release though.

Bleh, that would be a disaster. They do have the best cameras in the business so that would be nice. But I despise their huge, nasty polycarbonate, square edged, thick fisher price style.

Only thing I have seen so far that I dont like / is taking me some getting use to is the notifications. They seem iOS like. I preferred marshmallow where they were separate cards vs just a line separating each app notification in N.
And what's funny is in iOS 10 the notifications are separated and more card like, like marshmallow.

Been a while since I have used iOS so I apologize. But yeah I am really not liking the notifications on N. It looks "prettier" but its harder to read which defeats the purpose IMO.
