New render. Apparently accurate.

HTC Nexus Marlin render: this is what the phone will allegedly look like

http://www.phonearena.com/news/HTC-...at-the-phone-will-allegedly-look-like_id83603

Nexus-Marlin-Render.jpg

Somehow I doubt the bezels will be that small, Nexus devices are always compromised in multiple ways. I see hints of that horrendous chamfering HTC likes so much, and of course metal back most likely means no wireless charging. Sigh I know they are only rumors, but I'm already disappointed.

Lot of disappointment going around.........and not just for the Nexus phones. Kinda disappointed in most of the big flagship releases this year so far. Disappointed the Note 7 isn't available in a flat version. Disappointed in the Moto X 2016 models. Disappointed in what is being reported for the iphone 7......

Yeah it's turned into a rather anti-climatic year after very promising start.

I was afraid of this. But not surprised.

Latest rumor claims only the Google Nexus Marlin will be metal-made, the Sailfish to be plastic
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Late...metal-made-the-Sailfish-to-be-plastic_id83643

Disappointing, especially when you consider some of the cheap devices from China with metal builds for $250-300 and given the cheaper 5X is still €450 here from Google, then yeah it would have been far better to have been metal build if it's retailing at same kind of price as the 5X.

Meh, I dont care about metal bodies.

I mind only when I factor in the price being asked for them. If the Sailfish device retails at below €300 then fine, but I would expect it to match the €479 32gb nexus 5x here on store.google.com and that's a heck of a lot of money for a plastic phone.

I agree....when I can get a OPO3 or Axon 7 with the same or better specs and for almost HALF the cost with better build materials. Why get a Nexus at all with plastic build materials and almost double the price.

Because its a Nexus and every ROM will be made for it.

I hope it's not metallic, that will give wireless charging some chance of being implemented. Plus for me metallic just seems antiquated, like having an old car. Glass would be my first choice both functionally and aesthetically. I'm surprised they cheaped out that much with plastic though, doesn't bode well for the Nexus brand. Everyone else is stepping up their game, sub $300 flagships and even $99 mid flagships are coming out and they are going to release a plastic phone?

interesting though. I have had just about every Nexus phone and tried just about every rom for them. After a while they are all pretty much the same....it;s stock Android.
They are pretty much the same roms by the same developers as say the OPO3 and just about any other popular unlocked phone. The same developers make the same roms across most popular devices. So what is the difference? I mean I can get roms for my OPO3 that are by the same developers as the Nexus 6P. The roms all look and act the same on the two phones. The only difference is the cost of the phones.....

I think the difference is how soon you get it, so ymmv depending on what the new ROM brings. Nougat, for example, has several things which I find will be very functional for me, such as multi window support.

Yeah the Nougat roms will take a little longer. But they will be there fairly fast after the Nexus phones are released and the devs can get a dump from the phones.

If it's going to be plastic, will it have wireless charging? Probably not because how can Google say the "mid-range" one has wireless charging, and the premium one that's metal-clad does not?

Anyway, agree with you completely. OnePlus 3 did it.

What an idiotic reason to not have wireless charging, yet I fear you are 100% correct. When I say idiotic I don't mean you, I mean Google, or HTC, or whoever is making these decisions.

Yep, knew the August date for awhile now. The Developer Previews were on a 4 to 5 week release schedule, and they said would only have 5 Beta Previews, so end of August was gonna be the final release date.

I bet we see the new HTC Nexus's launch in early September.

Marlin goes all-metal
Sailfish goes soft plastic

I prefer the soft plastic. Don't care for metal that much. Dents, scrapes, overheats. Overrated material used. I hope the soft plastic is like the Nexus One, 5, and 6 had. Something nice to hold and doesn't dig into my palms when I wrap my hand around it.

Metal/soft touch - Nexus One
Soft plastic - Nexus 5, Nexus 6
Matte plastic - Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 5X
Metal - Nexus 6P
Glossy plastic - Nexus S
Glass - Nexus 4

Prefer soft and matte plastic. I miss the tough plastic material used on the Nokia 3310 and Motorola pagers.

I suspect the reason for plastic is more to do profit margin and less to do with wireless charging tbh.

That's my concern, they are already looking for ways to cheap out. I completely understand selling a cheaper phone in greater volume to make money. But I still wish there was an all out, no compromises flagship coming, I'd be ok paying a premium for it. As it is I'm most likely going with the Note 7, but am not satisfied that I won't get Nougat for 8-10 months AND I'm paying a large premium for the privilege of bending over for Samsung like that.

Hell, if ZTE can build what they have for $399, and even freakin $99, how the hell does HTC need to go plastic in order to save money?!?!? Not to mention Xiaomi and others like them building flagship quality phones for very cheap prices. Maybe giving the contract to a desperate company was not the best option, who knows what other shortcuts they may take to increase their profit margin.

Google may revamp the home screen on its next Nexus phones

Check out the gif. Not sure how I feel about this. I actually like the new doc/app drawer since it's a nice throwback to the original app drawer style:

get

Except the new one is much cleaner. The new one reminds me of OSX dock actually.

Not liking the new Google icon / calendar widget thing at the top though...

BTW, I love the new folder design.

There's an APK for a Nexus Launcher (separate from the GOogle Now Launcher!)

The Nexus Launcher will probably not be an update to Google Now Launcher, but a standalone app
http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/0...-to-google-now-launcher-but-a-standalone-app/

APK download is here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/wt56xspa8zjp1b5/nexuslauncher.apk?dl=0

Just installed it. The G widget and the date widget that is permanent at the top is really obnoxious. And it disappears on page two of your home screen. Overall, not understanding the change from Google. Forcing the giant G widget and a calendar/date widget at the top on the first home page really doesn't add anything to the experience. It actually takes away.

I love the new app drawer though.

Going back to the GN Launcher. The Nexus launcher is a weird idea, Google.

Is it crashing on you when you try and change wallpaper ? Also the left pane is not working for me despite being enabled in settings.
