The value for money proposition is just absent. The IP rating doesnt match the iPhone. No Front Speakers. The SD821 will roughly be equivalent to an Apple A9.A low res 1080P display.Massive Bezels. The finger print sensor looks like they took the iPhone home button and pasted it on the back.No OIS.Verizon Exclusive. And to top it off they charge as much as an iPhone.DOA phone.I am missing the Nexus series already :(

This phone will be a monumental sales fail. Absolutely no way they gonna sells millions of these, with the starting price of $769.00 for the base model, LOL, not gonna happen.

And then just put it out on one carrier only, and probably the worst evil carrier out there in Verizon. Plus you know it will just sit in some back dark corner in the Verizon store, with none of the sales staff pushing it over the iPhone 7 or Galaxy 7's.

Even Best Buy never actually carries the Nexus phone at those little kiosk displays, you still need to order it online only through bestbuy.com. And I don't see Best Buy truly promoting this phone, and actually having it in stock to pick up and hold and purchase right there on the spot ? Nope.

I'll be shocked if the Pixel XL sells more units than the Motorola Nexus 6, which was a pretty big sales flop itself.

I am no iPhone guy, but this new Pixel phone launch is pissing me off, and I'm sad to see the Nexus line disappear. I may just go with a 7 Plus on JoD @ T-Mobile, and try out iOS 10. At least Apple supports their phone properly.

So in Canada it looks like prices are identical to the iPhone 7 models.
C$1029 for a 128 GB 5" and C$1179 for the 128 GB 5.5".
Wow.

I agree. This pretty much clinched the deal.I could have compromised the display somewhat but the design of the phone is a huge step back from the Nexus 6P.Even the OnePlus 3 had OIS iirc.Google is crazy charging iPhone prices for this.It doesnt deserve more than 500 bucks.

Anyway,Getting an iPhone 7 Plus this week.

Why can't Google get high iPhone-esque prices? I just don't understand why everyone is complaining about that. Apple and Samsung sell phones by the boatload at high prices. Yes they go through carriers, but you can go through Verizon or the Google Store on a payment plan. Took me 3 minutes to get approved for their credit and I paid ZERO DOLLARS for my Pixel XL right now. As long as this thing doesn't make screeching and hissing videos like my 7 Plus does and I'll be happy. I think they knocked it all out of the park. This is the future. Not finally doing bokeh photos on an iPhone with a fake home button. Looks like a ChromeCast and Home is in my future too.

Apple and Samsung have proven themselves in the realm of phones. Google has not.

Would obviously wait for reviews to reveal the full picture.

But on the surface there is too much missing here. I'd rather pick up a 32GB Samsung S7 for £350 than a 32GB Pixel for £600.

£250 is a gigantic difference. Could get a smartwatch and a VR headset for that, practically.

I'm out.

For me personally, the cost is considerably less thanks to the included unlimited full resolution Google Photos. I'd need to spend $10/month ($240 over 2 years) to cover my entire photo/video library on either platform so the Pixel is considerably cheaper than an iPhone or Samsung device, at least for me.

My takeaway is Pixel is targeted at consumers who want iPhone hardware but with better AI, OS and services. I noticed they avoid comparison to Samsung which they can't compete with hardware-wise as a whole like comparing DxOMark scores but leaving out Samsung which is up there with 88 score. As someone who's contemplating picking up an iPhone 6S Plus to tinker with iOS 10 and since it has the option to fall back to 9.3.5 for stability which the iPhone 7 Plus can't do, Google's presentation was convincing enough for me to consider the Pixel XL instead.

Other thoughts, the VR goggle looks like something Apple would design. Functional with decent materials but would win the equivalent ugly sweater contest for VR goggles.

Doesn't make sense to make the Pixel a Verizon exclusive when their Google Fi service is Tmobile and Sprint. Wishful thinking they're trying to get Verizon to join Google Fi which would be ideal (I'd be happy with just Verizon and Tmobile).

Like others have mentioned the price is a barrier considering it can't compete with Samsung on hardware and design and when Samsung gets Nougat it'll eliminate Pixel's only advantage. And, underneath the Google logo it's just a HTC.

iPhone priced phone that is not an iPhone. Sorry don't see a success story here.

VR is a joke. Not going to wear big VR headset that gives me a headache after a while. Wake me up when VR is like Star Trek with a real hollodeck.

It's not like this is some startup company here.

You're right. But this is a company that has done software great. Heck, I'd argue that they did great hardware with the Pixel line so far. But none of that says they can design a phone that will both be inspired and work well. That's a lie. Looking at their phone, we know they don't have an inspired design for their phone.
