With Andrioid M supposedly bringing native finger-print scanning tech, it'd be safe to assume the new Nexus 5 and 6 will have finger print scan.

But I wonder, what technology will they use? Didn't Apple buy the number 1 leader in finger print scan? And presumably, Samsung bought up number 2, or whoever they got to make the ones for the S6/Edge.

Where will LG go to get the finger print scan hardware?

----------

For the small Nexus phone, yeah be OK. But I wouldn't want that lower end version.

I much prefer the high spec'd, with the nice 5.7" screen, and 3,500mAh battery :)

I enjoyed my 5.5" screen of the One Plus when I had it, but now that I'm back to a 5.1" screen, I know that's my goldilocks spot for screen size.

Of course, the major tradeoff is the battery size...

In light of Android M, does that mean we'll see USB-C charging ports for the new Nexus devices?

Are they "backwards compatible"? Can you use current micro USB to still charge a USB-C port? I'm not familiar with the tech...

Nope. To my knowledge, the Micro USB and USB C have different ... almost everything, really. I doubt you could even plug a Micro USB into a USB C spot, if only for the shape and size.

Also, probably will come with it. I'm guessing it'll be some sort of USB-C on one side and USB 3 on the other, or maybe they'll throw in an adapter.

Interesting...! Wow, big changes coming, if all this pans out.

Yep really looking forward to the next flagship Nexus, a 5.7" phone, with a smaller footprint then the iPhone 6 Plus.

You can get Google photos already in the play store. I don't think it looks any better than what I have the the Samsung Gallery app on my phone.

Hell YES to both! You go Huawei and LG!

A few months ago, I didn't like the rumor that LG was going to do it for the third time. I felt LG didn't try hard enough or had nepotism to their own phones. But after owning the $180 LG G3 Beat, I am all for them! Today is the first time I am testing my Beat after a 100% full charge. On airplane mode and 45% brightness, I am still at 80% batt with 2.5 hr SOT watching HD vids and Wi-Fi. This little guy might end up giving me 12 hr SOT on its first try. My Xiaomi is very good at 8-10 hr SOT, but the LG might crack 10-12 hrs easily and could be 20% more efficient. I am a frugal and efficient user but that is terrific. And I didn't use the Beat at all for two days. Each day drained 3%. That 700 hr standby time claim could very well be closer to the truth. The only thing I don't like with the Beat is the selfie cam and sound could be louder. Overall, life is good!

LG can make a 720p Nexus again with 2500+ instead of the 2100 found on Nexus 4 and provide better camera, the LG Nexus could be a real winner. I am so anti-QHD. Give me HD w/ 2500+ mAh or FHD w/ 3100 mAh. The LG Nexi were always offered the cheapest initially but had too many compromises like poor batt, washed out screen, and weak cam. But I believe in LG if they can focus on lower resolution and specs with a minimum 2500 mAh battery and give us a decent snapper that can outshine most midrange devices. I love that so many others copied their KnockOn feature and they resurrected webOS on their TV's. Go LG! Third times the charm?

Huawei is also another up and coming brand to watch along with Oppo, ZTE, and Meizu. Check out their Honor 4C and 4X. Affordable with excellent battery life and decent cam as well.

It's more the ability to have those photos available on all devices iPad, iPhone, android tablet, android smartphone regardless of manufacturer that's appealing.

I do this now with Dropbox. Works cross platform and every photo i take is in one location regardless of what device i was using. Dropbox just doesn't have photo editing tools.

True, but Dropbox isn't really geared for photos (still a bit clunky) unless you use carousel.

Plus dropbox again doesn't offer an unlimited storage option for them - it comes out of your storage.

Looks like Andrew M and Android M failed to live up to the hype machine. YAAAAAAWN, bored with Android already.

There was hype to android m?

Otherwise I agree. Some good key features but otherwise pretty ho hum. And still missing some key things I'd like to see finally get added to stock android.

I don't remember hype either. But I would like to see a lot the Nova launcher features be incorporated to Android.
I am running M on my Nexus 6. For a preview version it is pretty rock solid. But...one little thing bothers the heck out of me for stock Android is the battery meter. C'mon Google....can we get a realy battery meter? I mean how hard is it to add the ability to have a text battery level representation in stock Android.

I hope they put in a bigger battery than a 2500+. The 2300 in my Nexus 5 sucked.

Dropbox and OneCloud already do that for me. And i have 130 GB of free space on OneCloud. One thing i hate, is ....i dont use Google+ and any pics i take all automatically get uploaded to that even when i have it turned off and if i try to delete them, it deletes them everywhere. Big turnoff. Google ties that into your system too much imo. Yes i can back them up to my Google space but it still deletes them from my phone and i want to keep them there, just not on my Google+ photos.

Me too.

As I said before, the new Nexus 5, while interesting, will have to hit so many targets before I leave my S6 for it.

Basically, the S6 sets the bar really high for this year's flagships. I want Android M and faster updates, so I'll look to the new Nexus 5 or the new Moto X, but I also want little-to-no compromises from the strengths of the S6. Talking about battery, superb camera, hopefully more features to Android M (seems there is multi-tasking but it's unfinished or hidden away or something?), gorgeous screen, good build quality, etc. Price will be a factor too.

Bring it on, LG/Google! Don't let us down.

Oh yeah i agree. I still wish our GS6 had at least a 2700 MaH battery in it. I surely would be fine sacrificing a millimeter of thickness for it. The faster updates is really the only draw for me with Nexus devices. I missed other features that Samsung has. Well and price but they blew that with the Nexus 6 and its way too big form factor for me.

I also love the loudness the ringer and notifictions have that Samsung brings. My N5 was horrible in that regard.

The S6 speakers are amazing. Super loud, super clear. I can forgive that they're not front firing.

Are they warm and non-fatiguing with rolled off treble, or are they bright and brash? I love the tone my 6+ speaker puts out and two of those would be just perfect. I don't care for loud volume, I want sound quality.

It sounds pretty good for a tiny speaker but man, with just my $15 Skull Candy earbuds, the sound is amazing.

I do use PowerAmp music player and it has the treble and Bass knobs and you can make presets with the equalizer which is nice but even if you dont mess with those and just do the "adapt sound" optimized for your hearing, compared to my Nexus 5 it blows it away. The GS6 is just a great player for music.

Nexus devices needs to go back to the midrange prices which seems to be the most competitive segment in the industry. I see iPhone 5s spike in sales for size and comfort or folks still sticking with iPhone 4/4s for half a decade. This is why Android's midrange market is so competitive. Best specs get pushed aside for lower price, more comfortable footprint, and reasonable enough specs. Nexus 6 was a great effort by Motorola but both a larger footprint and price was a turnoff. So many good phones with good specs can be offered for under $200-$300 these days. I can see Huawei offering the larger Nexus phablet at $499 or less and the smaller LG back at $349-$399 range like the Nexus 5.

I actually would love to see Huawei implement the Mate7 rear fingerprint scanner on the new Nexus. Placing it on the back makes total sense. Same with LG putting KnockOn, excellent screen/bezel ratio, and adding the power and volume buttons on the rear. It might feel awkward at first but it is much easier to take selfies by pressing the volume buttons. It is ironic both Huawei and LG are linked together in rumors since I have been wanting to use the Huawei icons pack and Mate7 gold wallpaper for my gold G3 Beat to match the colors right.

Both Huawei and LG can be hit or miss with their skin. Huawei seems to suffer from iPhone copycat syndrome like the many Chinese OEM's like Xiaomi, Lenovo, and Meizu suffer from. Huawei's own SoC GPU is also questionable for heavy gaming. LG doesn't exactly have the best Android skin but still livable. I didn't like how LG jumped right into 2K display last year without increasing batt size. Still, LG are the only Top OEM which offers removable battery and micro-sd slot on a flagship. Those reasons alone are worth putting LG #1 fav for me for the foreseeable future now that Samsung might be giving up on them. But Nexus no longer offers either since Nexus 4.

Next year, I would like to see Xiaomi, ASUS, Meizu, ZTE, and Gionee/BLU release an Android One phone for under $100 and Sony and Oppo to have a crack at a Nexus device. Imagine a water resistant Nexus with amazing battery life or the fast charging from Oppo with full charge from 0-100% in under 1 hr, rotating camera, super thin metal design, and gesture swipes to wake?

That is the beauty (and drawbacks) of having an army of Android OEM's. Each one have their forte at something. Watching Samsung defecting from Android to give us Tizen or Huawei developing their own new OS wouldn't be an issue to Android since so many OEM's are talented enough to carry the established platform beyond the next decade or so.

That was in reference to the "full of bugs" comment. I was saying...at least Apple was quick to take care of them. No software of going to be perfect. If we are talking about buggy software, then Android L takes the cake. And yes, I know because a majority of my smartphones last year were Android.

And Google has not quick releases patches to Android?

Every year I read that this release of Android/iOS is buggier than the last year one so I will take your claims with a pinch of salt.

By the way, last year smartphones? L was released mid November

Well, this is random...

Lol. I forgot what I even said in this thread. I honestly try to stay out this section out the forum. It's too much drama for me. I'm over comparing phones/OS. It's pointless. I wish I would have shut up back then.
