doesnt google make a rom for essentially every carrier for the nexus 6? I know ATT users dont get OTAs until ATT approves them (and there was att bloat), tmobile and fi have their own specific roms. I believe google said there will only be one rom for all nexus 5x and 6p, maybe refusing to sell through carriers is a means to that end?
My Understanding of the carrier apps/bloat on Nexus 6 when I had one. I would do a fresh factory reset then insert an AT&T sim. After the initial setup it would download DT_Ignite program. That is the program that would install the carrier bloat from each carrier.

I tried doing a factory wipe/reset then insert a VZW sim and got the same results.

The only time it seemed to not get it was when I flashed a stock rom through a custom recovery.

That Reddit AMA yesterday was filled with tons of questions asking about U.S. Carrier availability, and they didn't respond once.

Wonder if that got them thinking, hey maybe we should put this out to T-Mobile and other carriers maybe ? I could see that happening after the rush of Play Store orders, and be in stores come December. I bet T-Mobile at least carries it by Christmas, just my guess.

I'm still upset no Nexus 6P at U.S. Carrier stores, especially T-Mobile.

And I call BS on Google's excuse, that they want full control and no carrier slow downs no carrier involvement mucking things up.

Apple

Carriers don't get in the way of Apple and iOS updates. A Verizon or ATT iPhone 6S get's updated straight from Apple, you don't see Verizon users waiting longer for the iOS update, than an international iPhone user, or Apple having to give the update to ATT first and then let them, hand out the update later to it's customers.

Nope, if you have a Sprint, or T-Mobile, or Verizon iPhone, you just go to iTunes or Apple for the update, and they have the update available at the exact the same time, no matter which carrier phone you own.

My point is, carriers aren't in the way whatsoever, and Apple sells a **** ton of iPhone's through these carriers. How many sales of iPhone's are done directly through the Apple store and site only, like Google wants people to buy the Nexus 6P through the Play Store only ?

Google should sell the Nexus 6P at U.S. Carrier stores, and not give the BS excuse it's because of updates or some crap.

Just curious, why do you want this sold at TMO so bad? Is it for JUMP or some other financing reasons?

Yeah but the problem with that is I don't want an iPhone so those positives as your seem to think they are, just don't matter to me because imo, Android is still better.

I've had three or four updates on my GS 6 since I've had it. Two or three from TMobile. I don't really want a Nexus either. Pure Android doesn't cut it for me.

The Nexus phones are like the iPhone, meaning they are stock vanilla OS's, no manufacturer UI, no bloat. And updated directly from the source = Google.

The new Nexus phones all share the same internals, so no separate version for ATT and a different one for Verizon. Point being there's just one phone, and is updated only from Google. So...that's just like the iPhone then. It's makes zero difference if Carriers sell them, that won't slow down or interfere with anything, just like the iPhone get's the iOS updates straight from Apple all ready at the same exact time, because the phone is the same across the board for everyone.

Yes ' JoD ' which I pay for, so no reason to spend $500 separately when already with Jump on Demand. Of course I can just order it right now through Google Play and pay for it immediately, but then I'm blowing it with being on the JoD program.

Yeah, that is a bummer for some of the carrier device upgrade plans. But I'd like to think the price is cheaper overall because they cut out the carrier and retail stores. If that is the case, I am all for it. Google giving $50 in play credit on top of that, great deal. And since most plans now give you a discount for BYOD, seems to be a win-win for most people.

I know, i had a Nexus 5 that i bought from Google and i wouldnt buy it from TMobile even if they had them like they did w/ the N5. They are more expensive. Didnt care for Pure Android. I mean it was alright, I didn't hate it, I just like my GS6 better. The Nexus isnt a recognised phone on many things either like flying on Southwest or Virgin to work with their wifi network to watch TV or movies. My GS6 works fine on those. The only real advantage to me is the faster updates but really, who cares, ill get them eventually.

For those that ordered one of these phones, did Google take the full amount out of your bank account? Or do they take it out once its ships?

I guess I'll be getting this phone now (Nexus 6P) since my Note 5 screen is pink. Ugh. I'll be buying and using a Nexus 6 in the meantime.

32GB Graphite is showing 3 to 4 weeks.

I see why the Google Play Store didn't crash this year when you have ETA over a month away... Personally I wish Google would have announced it mid October for delivery late October.

I think the difference is that the carriers will jump through hoops for Apple. Meaning they make an exception because the iPhone is such a popular device and they want to be able sell it.

As much as we all like the nexus device it's nowhere near as popular as the iPhone and carriers aren't going to make exceptions in the same way they do for the iPhone.

I like the design of the 6P more even with that funky black strip on the back, but prefer the 5X overall because of price and size. So LG over Huawei here. I just wished LG packed a 3200 mAh instead of 2700. The Nexus 5 from 2013 was a pretty solid device already with just problems with cam and batt life.

Huawei is a good Chinese brand. They sell affordable Honor 4C and 4X here. But I trust LG more. But the Nexus 5X is still more expensive than the Xiaomi Mi 4c which uses the same 808 chip. I'd rather get the Xiaomi Mi 4c and only consider LG if it had removable battery and sd slot like what they offer with their G3 and G4.

Nexus no longer offers the most affordable price even with its lowest denominator option. Xiaomi, Meizu, ASUS, ZTE, OnePlus, and Nokia WP has got any new Nexus beat in the price department.

But a Nexus is a Nexus. Fastest possible updates and direct from Google, unlike any other OEMs.

What happens if you preorder one of the new phones, get the 50 dollar play store credit but then find you want to return the phone?

Does Google deduct true 50 bucks for the credit in your return? Do you give back the 50 if you haven't used it?

How's it work?

The smart thing for Google is to wait until 14+ days after shipping to credit accounts with the $50. Not sure if that will happen though. If they do give it to you at the same time your phone ships, that credit is likely yours whether you return the phone or not. I don't see how they could deduct it back from you (especially if some if it is already spent).

Maybe instead of returning $400 bucks to your account, they'll refund $350. That's the only way to properly do it, I think.

That would not make me happy. I am trying out Google Fi and the 6p. If it doesn't work as well for me as AT&T within the 14 day return period, it will likely go back and I'll keep my 6S+. That would leave me with $50 less and nothing to spend it on.
