That's certainly good news to start...want to see more reviews though. And how does dxomark have a review of the 6P's camera before it puts out its evaluation of the new iPhones?
I was wondering the same thing.

It seems like a few OEMs sent their devices to dxo early this year. OEMs with something to prove, like Motorola.

Maybe Google did the same.

So just watched my first hands-on video for the 6P....seems quite snappy performance-wise that camera hump is even worse than it looks in pictures. Whomever posted the picture much earlier in the thread of the old school barcode scanner was sadly spot on--first thing it reminds me of every time I see it.

Huawei puts outs much the much nicer designed Mate S and Google says, 'No, lets fugly it up a bit, give it some bigger bezels and a hunchback.' Why do that? Oh, that's right, because the Mate S looks like the illegitimate offspring of an iPhone 6 and HTC One (pick your version).

Time for Google to bring their hardware design in house--if they can design something a nice looking as the Pixel devices, they can certainly outdo the latest Nexus phone designs.

Yeah, i'm waiting for a better explanation for that hump. I think it has to do with the dual speakers, the camera sensors, NFC being there, and the radio antennaes (the rest of the device is metal, but doesn't it have antennae lines too around? I dont' know).

The overall device is growing on me, but the hump is the hardest thing to get over. PUN INTENDED.

That is exactly what it is for:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...bar-is-a-window-for-nfc-and-various-antennas/

The Nexus 6P's big glass window serves as a home for the rear camera, dual LED flash, laser autofocus module, NFC coil (yes, really), as well as an outlet for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and some mobile data connectivity. There is an additional plastic window along the bottom of the phone for the main cellular antenna, as well.

Kind of like what the top of the 5S is like. But with more hump :)

People responsible for the new Nexus phone does a Reddit AMA. Some interesting stuff: http://www.droid-life.com/2015/09/3...name-meaning-usb-2-0-no-qi-charging-and-more/

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Display in the Nexus 6P: “It has a Samsung WQHD AMOLED panel. We have spent a lot of time tuning the white-point and color gamut for these panels – hope you will enjoy the accuracy of the display.”
  • Type of storage in each phone: “Both 6P and 5X use eMMC 5.0.”
  • Not US 3.1: “Nope! Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P supports USB 2.0”
  • Why only 2GB RAM in the Nexus 5X: “We like to think we’re striking a strong balance between premium features/experiences and affordability.”
  • Why no wireless (Qi) charging: “We added Qi wireless charging starting with N4 because plugging in USB micro B was such a hassle! (Which way is up!?) With this year’s Nexii, we support USB Type-C which has a reversible connector so there’s no more guessing. AND it charges incredibly swiftly: 1% to 100% in 97 mins on the 6P for example (the first ~45 mins of charging is especially fast). Meanwhile, wireless charging adds z (thickness). So, ease of plugging in + fast charging + optimizing for thinness made us double down on Type-C instead of wireless!”
  • 16GB option for the Nexus 5X: “The idea here was to strike a balance between premium features/experiences and affordability.”
  • Same cameras in each phone?: “Yes. Both devices have the same camera – a 12.3MP camera, with a large 1.55um pixels, which works great in all conditions – especially low light. And both have LDAF for fast auto-focus.”
  • More on cameras: “Yea, same sensor (IMX377) and F/2.0 optics. But 6P has more CPU/GPU horsepower so has a few additional features like 240fps slomo (vs 120fps on 5X), Smartburst, and EIS.”
  • Why partner with LG and Huawei?: “5X: We wanted to bring the LG-Google band back together. So many N5 fans, we couldn’t possibly disappoint! 6P: Always nice to work with new players — we have a history of working with a bunch of folks: HTC, Motorola, Samsung, Asus and now Huawei!”
  • On naming: “X for the core of the Nexus brand (plus it sounds cool!), P for premium.”
  • T-Mobile band 12: “We’re hard at work with T-Mo to get Band 12 on Nexus devices by ship date.”
  • Security with fingerprint scanners: “Fingerprint features are securely encrypted on the device, and processed in the secure Trustzone protected area of memory. The Android 6.0 fingerprint APIs do not provide any access to the fingerprint material to apps. Fingerprint features never leave the device and are not shared with Google (so for example if you setup a new phone, you need to re-enroll your fingers). If your phone is ever lost or stolen you can easily find, lock, and erase your phone using Android Device Manager.”
  • NFC coil locations: “On 6P the NFC coil sits just above the Nexus Imprint fps is exposed behind the camera coverglass (which is GG4 BTW). On Nexus 5X, the coil is wrapped around the back camera. And we have tested it rigorously for payments experience and it works great! And for peer-to-peer and reader mode too BTW.”
  • Making up for no OIS: “We’ve done a bunch of things to provide image stabilization: 1. The Nexus 6P/5X has a large 1.55um pixel camera and the amount of motion blur due to hand-shake is lower , when you have large pixels. 2. We have a feature we call “lucky shot” internally. When you take a picture, behind the scenes, we select the best of 3 bursts of images. 3. When you use video, we have optic-flow-based image stabilization. 4. When you use SmartBurst, we select the best image from the burst (for example a shot with eyes open).”

More from the Reddit AMA regarding the 6P hump:

SW: The “bump”? We call it a visor internally :) Nice, respectful name, eh. Jokes aside, the blurry-cam leaks (which always are unfortunate) misrepresented the device as most such leaks do. The visor looked distorted, which was sad given how much effort was put into designing it well. The design was driven by major engineering challenges (putting in a great camera with big sensor for amazing low-light performance, LDAF, flash, antennas, nfc coils, wifi 2x2 mimo antennas) and still keeping the form nice looking, and optimizing for thin/light/comfortable feel in hand. You’ll see the high-res images on our sites and the product videos on YT and also great hands-on videos all suggesting the contrary to how things came across when they got leaked. Engadget captured it well - we had a good discussion with them on this topic yesterday.

Interesting tidbit from anandtech:

When I first used the Nexus 6P I was very upset to see that it was clearly oversaturated like the Nexus 6, but there's more to the story this time around. In the Nexus 6P's developer settings there is a switch to enable an sRGB mode, and when this switch is turned on the Nexus 6P's display appears to have similar color rendition to the Nexus 5X which is a very good sign. While we'll need to get a review unit in order to analyze all of the display's attributes, I am hopeful that Google has recognized and fixed the issues with the Nexus 6's display in the Nexus 6P.

And they all have overheating issues, yeah?

If so, that's an auto pass for me on the 6P. I don't want anything to do with 810 overheating issues...
Seems it also depends on the device and software. The OnePlus 2 underclocks/bottlenecks itself when it gets too hot. The Z3+ seems to suffer the worst with overheating reports, whereas other than initial worry the M9 seems to have got away with very few issues regarding overheating.

So by all means it doesn't guarantee the 6P will or will not suffer in some regard either relying on thermal throttling cutting off some cores when it gets hot or it may be fine and slightly underclocked to keep temperature down. We really can't say until it gets into hands of real users as these things rarely crop up in reviews either.

THe Note 5 almost looks "small" compared to the 6+ and 6P.

I have to give Samsung credit, they designed the smallest 5.7" smartphone out there very well. Just so tight and very little bezel for a large screen, making the phone appear and feel a lot smaller.

Compared to my old Motorola Nexus 6, this Note 5 feels substantially smaller and easier to hold. Even next to my 5.5" OnePlus One, the Note 5 feels really no bigger, and the thinness is noticeable

And the Note 5 next to the iPhone 6S Plus is a joke, you get a bigger screen, and an overall smaller phone in the Note 5, making the 6S Plus look very dated and much larger than a 5.5" phone should be.

especially considering it has the same size screen as the 6P and bigger than the 6s Plus.

Wow, Samsung, they gave Google their latest Amoled Panel. That is VERY surprising. I guess the new SUPER DUPPER (lol) panel they are working on for next year is even better than the current one.

I'm curious in that. Like latest as in the exact same 5.7" display the Note 5 has ?

I'd be shocked if Samsung was selling that to other manufacturers so soon. The Note 5 display, is Samsung's #1 screen tech, and they already sold it to a competitor ?

The 5x screen looks a bit bigger than the GS6 and both are supposed to be 5.2".
I'm not really interested in the new Nexus 5x. Liked my N5 but I like the extra features on my S6 so I'm sticking with it. Pure Android is kinda bland. 5P is to big. Not interested at all

Actually Samsung has been offering their amoled displays for sale for a while now, no one was really interested.

http://www.phonearena.com/news/Sams...per-AMOLED-tech-to-anyone-but-Samsung_id58046

Fast forward to the end of 2015 and with the disappointing sales of this years s6/ note 5 ( including all the variations) samsung started to offer their amoled screens at a much cheaper price.
