One of the best things about the Nexus 6p is the performance. I can finally browse chrome without lag again! This was NOT the case with my old Nexus 5 after the upgrade to marshmallow (even after wiping cache in recovery) and it wasn't the case with the moto x pure edition either. It is like a breath of fresh air.

Size has been a none issue. The camera is pretty good although not perfect (it tends to over expose highly dynamic scenes but HDR+ can help if you are careful with tap to focus).

I love how dim the display can get in the dark with adaptive brightness on. I am disappointed that, analogous to how you can only reach the max brightness WITHOUT adaptive brightness on, you can only reach minimum brightness WITH adaptive brightness on. Can't they just give the user access to the entire dynamic range of the screen?

Finger print scanner works great. Sadly it DOES NOT WORK with screen off apps. I have the long press home button gesture set to turn the screen off (instead of Google now on tap which I'm not interested in). It is super convenient but alas if I turn the phone off this way then I have to use my pin to unlock instead of Google imprint. If anyone can find a non-root solution for this I will be forever in your debt!

Battery life seems at least better than the moto x pure so far. I am at 4hrs screen on time right now with 35% remaining. This was all on WiFi but I did do about 20 min of gaming and some app installs so I consider that pretty good.

I get LTE in my apartment! I might actually be able to make calls without sitting right next to a window like I had to with my Nexus 5.

Just some random thoughts on my first weekend with the 6p.

a better place
I've had experience with both and to be honest the only big advantage in my opinion is micro SD slot.

Moto x style other advantages:
Noticeably better speakers (in no way are the 6p speakers bad, they are still great).
Ambient display works much better
customization with moto maker

6p advantages:
Faster processor
Faster ram
Better screen quality (viewing angles) moto x style has a great screen though
Quicker updates
Better build quality
Finger print reader
Better camera both front and rear
Better battery life

I have different experience in a few areas.

Build quality - I find the Moto to be slightly better in the fact that the back of the device the Nexus 6p bottom piece is slightly off on mine and the headphone jack fails to recognise three of my headphones despite having no issues with any of my other devices. I also haven't worried about scratching my Moto X Style but do so with the Nexus 6P but that's just a materials debate.

Cameras - so far I've had better end results with the Moto X Styles and I shoot a lot. I was trying to do a macro shot with the Nexus 6p and it plainly refused to focus on what I wanted it to and I had to give up. The Moto X camera software isn't great but I've never had issues with focusing. If I'm honest the Nexus 6p camera has left me more underwhelmed than any other device I've gone through this year including the controversial M9.

Screen quality - I think the LCD panel is better overall in the Moto. It's far more accurate screen colour wise, has a better neutral white balance (Nexus 6p tends towards yellowy whites even with SRGB mode turned on) and despite it may not get inky blacks as the Nexus 6p - it is considerably better outdoors than the 6P which struggles with either adaptive brightness on or off.

This difficulty outdoors affects camera performance too as it makes it hard to actually see what I'm shooting which was a major issue with previous Nexus 6 too.

However, Battery life is better on the 6P and performance generally is smoother than the Moto. The 810 is clearly the more powerful chip and Moto also gets warmer than the Nexus 6P in use.

I think the Photos app sucks. =X

The only thing I like about it is you can swipe your finger across multiple pics and highlight them. That is very col and very desktop-feeling. Other than that, the rest of it pales in comparison to touch wiz and ios' gallery apps.

I'm really beginning to think I will not like the 6p. I may just cancel. Give it up to someone who wants it.

Edit: god I had to correct so many typos. Why has Google keyboard removed the aggressive auto correct? It's utterly idiotic. It nos doest get normal corrections it usually does. See. "Nos" instead of "now". And I know it knows because "now" was one of the suggestions when I tried typing "nos" on purpose to see. Auto correct it to "now," Google! Why wouldn't you do that automatically? What the hell is "nos"?

I can't be the only one who thinks Google keyboard has gotten worse...

valid points. My points is more subjective to what I like. I.E. - I prefer the saturation of the screen vs true to life, build quality just because I consider aluminium to be better as well as the design. I have heard about others complaining about headphones not working. I only have one pair of wired headphones and it works so no problem there for me.

Regarding the camera I think our opinion differs so much though. I think perhaps why is because most of my pictures are in low light situations which I think the moto x is really bad. The macro shot I can confirm that issue...the 6p seems to can't focus being so close up to the subject.

Yeah I don't really shoot in lowlight at all :) mostly landscapes and doggies as the folks around here can attest to :)

Yeah macro thing is annoying and surprised it wasn't mentioned in any reviews.

I was checking out the PocketNow review of the Nexus 5X and like all new phones we buy, it was quite fast and smooth early on. After awhile, Levi mentioned it started to stutter and lag. Levi questioned the Doze feature and Snapdragon 808.

My LG G3 Beat also is starting to tick me off with the animation lag that I had to go to developers option and turned it all off. And my Nova is set to faster than light. Forget smoothness feeling with animations, I got rid of the 90% of the lag turning animations off. It won't make apps open any faster but it will do. I still love the cp for the size, removable battery, and good stamina. After 15 months, my Xiaomi os also getting worse. Probably 15% battery degradation and the touchscreen can be unresponsive when I type into my notes app. And lag and random reboots are here and there.

I think this is pretty much happens with all phones on any platform after a year. Battery degradation becomes evident. Crashes happen more often. Animation stutter. Lag and random rebooting itself. Getting tired of all smartphones. But alot of us are now stuck in this staring at phone screen fad for maybe the rest of our lives...

I will check out reviews of the Nexus 6P but I just hate the size that I might be forced into buying something small like a Moto E 2nd gen. I might go Samsung too but like A-series. And I generally don't like Samsung or confident in the longevity of their OLED displays. Slim pickings. Not many new phones really look interesting after going back to my daily ritual of researching all phones. Nothing exciting.

Google Keyboard has really gotten worse recently! So weird.

In fact, I just started using Fleksy a week ago to try it out. It's a bit weird but great for Twitter. Otherwise I think I'll try SwiftKey again.

Yes thank you. I know I can't be the only one.

It's the removal of aggressive auto correct.

Think I'm going to hold fire on the Nexus 6P. I could lie and say it's down to price, reviews, camera etc...

But basically I think my wife might kill me if I switch two weeks after getting an S6 Edge

I floated the idea on the weekend and her tone implied that "This Nexus that I TOLD YOU TO WAIT FOR had better last you damn near a year if you are going to switch!" and basically I can't promise her that, I mean c'mon the S7 Edge will be out in 4 months haha

Well I guess you might want to keep the S6 edge. Might be a big price to pay if you choose to get the Nexus 6P. Might not be worth it.

Looking back on this article from early August, I'm just imagining how much of a beast the 5X would have been if it had these specs. The Snapdragon 620 would have made this thing a monster. It overtakes even the 810, and it would have the low power of the 600 series. This it why I think they should have waited, so they could get the 620 on he 5X and the 820 on the 6P.

just got my 6P in today as well. Everything is really quick and smooth. Haven't played around with it much. The phone is definitely big. Not Nexus 6 huge, but the top and bottom bezels could use a little trimming. Keep in mind I'm coming from a 4.7 Inch 2013 Moto X and a 4 inch iPhone 5 lol. On the plus side, it's crazy thin and is not heavy at all. I'll need to compare the size to a friend's 6 Plus just for kicks.

Fingerprint sensor is amazing. The setup took less then 12 seconds and the phone unlocks very quickly. Good stuff.

Now to find a clear and thin (and flexible) case. Any suggestions?

I'm using one of the cheap thin tpu cases from amazon (I think mine is the DGlite but I suspect they are all the same and just rebranded). Anyway I like it. Fits well. The most minimal I could find that wasn't a hard case. Buttons aren't super responsive but with imprint I'm not using my power button enough to care.

Thanks!

Is it this one? One review said the fingerprint cutout is not perfectly aligned. How is yours?

The Moto X 2014 is on sale for $200 today. That or the Nexus 5X?

Well, if you're fine never seeing Marshmallow on your phone (since Moto announced the Moto X 2014 up isn't on their update roadmap ), the X should serve you fine.

And I have to say nviz, you might take the title of most unsatisfied smartphone buyer here in these forums. I'm fairly certain every post I see from you over the past few months is regarding trying out yet another device because you're not happy with your last purchase. ;)

If that's the case, then no thanks. I am within my buyer's remorse period for my Nexus 5X. I have changed up a lot because of wanted to find the perfect fit. I mean the Nexus 5X is amazing, but if I can get a cheaper device, I might do that. It's a litany of problems with Android devices. I am content w/ iOS though ironically.

Actually the Moto X 2014 is on the roadmap as long as you don't buy a carrier version. Buy it 'pure' carrier free and you will get Marshmallow ;) Moto are seemingly trying to free themselves from providing updates through carriers.

Gotta say...after using my 6P for the last few days....I'm kinda disappointed.
IMHO the fingerprint scanner on the back is not a good idea. It is not intuitive. I have to pick my phone up to wake to use it. My 6s+ and Note 5 both can be used from a flat surface because the fingerprint scanner is on the front. I can use my index finger to get into the phones and use them. With the 6P I have to pick it up to get into it.
The camera and software is not quite up to par with the other two phones mentioned above.
The wake/off button is so sensitive. I keep hitting it all the time when just holding the phone. They really need to recess it a little and make it a little harder to press.
The performance is great. It is fast and responsive and very smooth.
But tbh stock Android is just not for me. It is just so featureless. I know its early in its lifecycle but a nice rom like CyanogenMod would be perfect. It might end up on swappa.

EDIT:
Despite the 6P having a larger battery and running stock Android...the battery life is about the same as my Note 5 and TW with a smaller battery.

I got the other Nexus 6P today and will be keeping this one as whilst it's still finicky about headphones I can at least get them to work on this phone (albeit wired remote doesn't) whereas on my first N6P it wouldn't see them at all. The back of the device (bottom small panel) is entirely flush on the new one too. So I have requested a return receipt from Google for my original and I'll keep this one.
