I personally don't feel Apple is light years ahead of anyone as I feel that Samsung makes the nicest handsets in the industry with the Edge plus and Note 5. Between the 6p and IPhone I find them more similar than not and I actually like the contrast between the high gloss visor and aluminum on the back. Everyone that sees my phone asks me what kind of phone I have and comment on how much they like the look and feel.
I agree. Although I hate Samsung because of touchwiz and there laggy phones after a few months based on past experiences.... I must say when it comes to hardware Samsung is ahead of Apple and every other manufacturer.

Best screens, best processors (argueable), best cameras.

It's all arguable for Nexus and otherwise. Samsung, Apple, and Google are all comparable, which is huge for Android.

What hardware is Apple ahead of Google/Nexus that you notice in daily usage? Only thing I can think of is 3D touch. However I would not call having 3D touch bring light years ahead of Google.
I think i stated the blend of hardware and software. With Apple they usually don't have bleeding edge hardware. But they blend it well with software to make things work. So if we are looking at the Nexus 6P and IP 6s +.
iphone wins on camera, build quality, fingerprint scanner, battery life. The there are little things on the software side like the camera app on my iphone is so much better than the stock camera app on the Nexus 6P. Battery meter shows percentage of battery life left on my iphone versus no battery meter on the Nexus 6P.
It's the little things. Stock Android is featureless IMHO. Other Android OEMs such and Samsung with TW have stock Android beat on features.

I agree with you on all of the bolded above. My Note 5 is easily the best phone I have ever owned. TW needs to be better optimized...but it is still better than stock Android IMHO.

You can enable battery percentage... It's in the System UI Tuner.

Stock Android is conservative and deliberate. Other OEMs do an overall sloppy job introducing new features.

Enable system tuner UI and you can toggle the battery % on.

You stated Apple is light years ahead in hardware which got me confused. Since Apple uses hardware which is mostly behind the competition.

I think the iPhone has the best camera app from the ones I've used. I am not big of manual controls so other persons opinions might differ. However both cameras are on par imo. Both have their strengths and weaknesses.

When it comes to build quality iPhone might be a tad ahead but I don't see that as a selling feature. Most if not all high end flagships are built really well.

The 6p scanner and 6s scanner is on par imo...6p is actually faster however a millisecond or so faster is negligible.

The nexus line has always been geared towards persons who are into modding and adding features to their phones through custom roms, kernels, etc. The nexus phones has huge potential for the user to unlock. While wiith iPhone what you buy is what you get. Nothing wrong with either approach.

Edit: iPhones has much better DACs than most other phones on the market. I wish Android manufacturers would step up in this often overlooked area.

I like the scanner on the 6P it is extremely fast. I like that you don't have to push a button to get it to work. I wish Apple and Samsung would do the same with their scanners.
My issue with the scanner is that it is on the back. For me that is not very good spot to put it. While on the other two phones i have with scanners the Note 5 and 6s+ it is on the front. So in one motion while picking up the phone I can unlock the screen. I can also do it on a flat surface without picking up the phones. The 6P i have to pick it up to unlock it because the scanner is on the back.
The camera is not on par with the other phones I mentioned. Both in the pictures it takes and the software that comes with the phone. The other two phones have better software by a long shot. The Note 5 has voice control for the camera as well.
While I can unlock the BL and add a custom recovery (TWRP) on the 6P...then what?
I can spend endless time tweaking and modding it to have the features that the other phones pretty much have out of the box.
But I do wish I could have CM13 on my Note 5! :)

I think where Google shines is in voice directions and finding places.
Siri is a hit or miss for me when asking her to find someplace and get directions to that place. But Google always works and finds the correct place for me.

On my old HTC One M7 Google now could not give me directions to an address from my contacts. Has this been fixed on the recent 6.0 Marshmallow.

I agree with the scanner. When I am taking it out of my pocket I love that it is on the back. However when it is on a table I hate that it is on a back. Hmm maybe we should have 2 fingerprint scanners haha.

I think were the 6p falls down in well lit photos it makes up back in low light. The 6s produces almost unusable photos in low light (without flash) where the 6p and note 5 produces decent photos.
Check out this video:

Root adds so much more capabilities that every stock phone lacks. To unlock all the features for tasker (this app does too much to list although you can do some without root), better battery life, much better back up of data and apps, adblocker (iphone has this stock). This is certainly not for 98% of phone buyers though. Hence nexus was not aimed to be a phone for general consumers (although that seems to be changing now).

I'm a little undecided on the color of the Nexus 6P. I've been using the aluminium for a week or so and now my frost white has arrived. One of them is going back lol.

My initial thoughts:

- Aluminium has sheen/gleen in the light. Frost doesn't.
- Aluminium's camera hump is more noticeable than the frost. The camera hump is pretty much invisible on the frost.
- The metal edges on the frost provide a really noticeable and pleasing contrast to the the sea of white.
- Each phone provides a different feel in the hand. The aluminium is really slippery and feels like metal. The frost gives a fusion of metal and hard plastic (similar to the Nokia lumia phones). Not cheap, just different. Consequently the frost provides a much better grip than the aluminium.

Here are some side by side comparison photos (excuse my low camera skills)

Not sure I follow, can you give an example?

I have John Smith address in my contacts. I ask Google now: navigate to John Smith. It could not do it. It will give me an Internet search to John Smith or it will search for an establishment that has John Smith in the title. Siri can do that very easily.

The frost looks awesome. If it were me that would be the one I would pick.

I hate the camera bulge and think it stands out just as much with either colour. The aluminium looks more premium IMO.

Their hardware test team is embarrassing. The stylus issue is a mess and bad hardware.

I really want to try this phone :(

I just hate how MMS works and how the quality is downgraded. I also dislike the fact that the videos sent over text are super compressed.

Lastly, I heard that the headphone jack is very weak.

The latter can be fixed but I don't know how google will make an iMessage equivalent.

Apple Music is on Android, I hope iMessage can eventually make it to Android. Not holding my breath though.

The more negative comments I read about this phone the more I want to keep my 6s. The iPhone is not perfect but is the grass really greener on the other side ?

Does anyone else find stock android difficult to use on a large phone? I find myself missing reachability and the swipe back gesture on ios. I have about 12 more days to decide if I should keep the nexus
