Also, the first thing he did back in Apple was simplifying the product line, now their notebook line is just confusing with so many similar models and names!

In my opinion, I think they should have axed the MacBook Air today. I know it has the sub-$1000 price tag going for it, but when Phil spent a good moment belittling the Air next to the new Pro, I was just confused by all of it.

Maybe. I'd much rather see new models announced, but a price drop is better than nothing. At least it kind of acknowledges they are not the latest and greatest anymore.

I don't know if they already dropped the price here in Italy, but if you customize the setup just a bit it goes straight up to unreasonable prices...

Not surprised since Ming-Chi Kuo has a pretty solid track record and he said 2017.

So looks like Apple is waiting for Kaby Lake and the higher-spec AMD GPUs (470/480) before they refresh the iMac. Kaby Lake Xeon should be ready by then, as well, so they could do a Mac Pro update.

There is light at the end of the tunnel!

I still am unsure if it is worth me buying an iMac now or waiting 12 months. Or buy one now and then again in 12 months time.

They better be planning a similar overhaul of the rest of their Macs including the iMac, because literally everything else is way overdue for an update at this point.

I'm really pleased I got my iMac back in August and wasn't on the waiting for a new one bench. Partly because I've been happily using since then and partly because they've just put the price up by £400 in the UK for the model I got (2TB fusion). The exchange rate is really affecting UK prices now :(

Snap. I did exactly the same with the 2TB fusion in July. I could have waited until now for a possible new one but was fearful of the new models being more expensive due to the collapse of the Pound. I was surprised to learn prices went up last month.

Looks like anybody buying in the UK did well to buy before September.

My ideal set up is a powerful work station at work, an iMac and Gaming PC at home with an entry laptop for when I'm on the go. I don't understand why Apple doesn't want to sell me a new iMac, MacBook Air or PowerMac.

They just need to turn Macintosh into a fully owned subsidiary and let some crazy person focus on making Macs great again. Clearly Cook is too obsessed with Watchbands to care.

I'm tempted to get a new MacBook Pro and the new LG display (4K version) instead of waiting for the iMac update.

Same here. The single cable into the MacBook Pro (including power) will make it very easy to quickly switch between desktop and mobile use.

However...the 27" LG display is $1,300. Even if I go with a 13" MBP (with the TouchBar), the setup will easily be over $3K. It's replacing a (now non-working) 2011 Mac mini and will rarely leave the desk. I have an iPad Pro 12.9 for mobile use.

I'll probably go with a refurb 2015 iMac 27" 5K with 512GB flash. I'm sure the next iMac will be faster, thinner, better, etc. "The Best iMac Yet." But the best computer is the one available when you need it -- and the current iMac is certainly up to the task.

I wouldn't even be in the market if my mini still worked (it's the 2011 with discrete graphics -- this is my third Mac that has had graphics chip problems after a few years).

This is getting ridicolous.
If only the hackintosh way was smoother... i could use my cintiq as a monitor, and with 1500$ tops i'd have a flaming new vr-ready mac!

Me too, I got it back in March. It's a silent beast. I would've regretted buying it had there been a new release today. Thankfully there wasn't.

Well, the folks over at the MBP forum got their update but they don't seem too happy about the specs or the price bump. I may just get the current iMac 5K and call it good for now.

While there is Kaby Lake and Polaris around the corner, I'm about done waiting and will probably be placing an order for a 2015 iMac soon. I'll skip the "2017" model entirely instead of buying twice. Mostly, the bigger upgrade is the display for me and getting a bigger SSD than I did with the 2013. I was just hoping to get the latest/greatest guts along with when I spent. Oh well.

But honestly, the 2015 would be fine for what I need for another 2-3 years. And I may just manage to avoid some of the conversion pains over to TB3/USB-C over the next year or so. Who knows. But I'm also not seeing a different machine I want to use for the next 2-3 years other than the iMac after doing my research.

The iMac that I bought in April of this year was a specced out 27". It cost £2,533. Today, the same computer costs £3,019, almost £500 more expensive.

I'm glad I bought it when I did.

I too am thinking of getting a Macbook Pro over waiting on an iMac update.I m on a 2011 and gaming on it is getting painful,it s showing its age. Even Safari is slow on it.
