Fair enough - and thank you for taking the time to reply. I know I will update eventually, knowing myself as I do. I don’t use safari - I use chrome: basically my concern is - is iOS 14 stable now? Might as well have the latest OS - after all, I finally have a phone that can stay up to date...

It actually doesn't matter if you use Chrome or Safari or any other browser - On iOS, all browsers use the Safari browser engine, WebKit. For security reasons, arbitrary code execution on iOS is very limited, which means another web browser would not be allowed to interpret JavaScript, thus all web browsers on iOS use WebKit - They may deliver a different UI and other features, but the core browser engine comes from the OS and is Safari's WebKit.

As for stability, everyone has different stories but I have no issues with 14

Remember that iOS 14 is more of a "catch-up" release like iOS 12 was. Not much in the way of groundbreaking features and more about subtle improvements and solving problems.

After the mess that was iOS 13, we need one of these. Look to iOS 15 for the "wow!" stuff.
Yea noone really believes that anymore.

Same excuses every year.

“The disaster that was last release”
“Apple needs improvements, not features.”

“NeXt yEAr BiG wOw”

agree. Just because Android had s feature doesn’t mean it’s good. Android has to throw in free extra because their phones don’t attract people willing to pay a premium price for better design like Apple.

A lot of Android phones are the same price more expensive than iPhones now. The premium price argument is redundant these days.

I get what they meant. While android has more features, their features often lack refinement iphones do. I used my roommates galaxy and the notification system is more powerful yet cluttered. Which is why I am glad we have notifications And control center.

The cluster f that is iOS 14 seriously has me considering selling all this rubbish and moving to Android.

My Health Data is absolutely pooched. my watch is useless and can't perform basic functions. What's the point of having developer & public betas if the Final release is a steaming pile.
That’s awesome. Go ahead and try android for a few months and come back and let us know how your experience was. If it made your life easier and was more efficient you might convert us. I’ll be waiting for your review

I use an Android phone everyday as it's my work phone. I find it frustrating at times and some of the navigation elements especially in settings etc don't appear to be laid out particularly well. I do find the vanilla versions better than the manufacturer skinned rubbish, but it's still a major change. This however is coming from someone who's used an iPhone since the very first one came out, so I'm somewhat conditioned / bias towards particular conventions used / that have evolved within iOS.

The biggest issue I have is separating myself from the rest of the Ecosystem, which will likely be the killer. Between HomePod, Apple TVs and services attached to iCloud (in particular photos) I'm likely up the creek without a paddle unless I can find ways around the gotchas about switching.

It would be really nice however if you & the others after your post, could realise that iPhones / Apple are not perfect, and they should not be held up on an untouchable pedestal.

iOS 13 was a utter cluster f. It didn't come good for quite some time.
iOS 14 is an utter cluster f. Which should be embarrassing for them especially given all the articles and media that was put out after iOS 13 about them working to improve processes, improve release stability etc.

If I could go back in time to before I updated I would and I'd slap myself for even thinking about it, but I'm here now f'd up Health Data and all. Something that unless they can release an adequate patch fix will be the tipping point for me. I've had a really crappy run with Apple recently; hardware issues with my watches, multiple iPhones having to be replaced due to hardware faults (one of them didn't even leave the Genius bar as the replacement was cactus on opening the box), MacBook Pro's etc and now potentially losing large portions of my health data is enough.

Super excited for this review. Looking forward to being converted🤣

Not looking to convert you. Never said I was trying to.

If you've not experienced any issues with iOS 14, or are willing to put up with them then I'd have to say I'm envious. I would love to be in that position. However, I'm not. I've had a crappy run with Apple for a while and haven't been particularly impressed with their Support, so the prospect of now losing large chunks of my data has me pretty p'd off.

So overall your post there was very balanced and nice - Your first post seemed a bit like blanket Apple hatred, so I can understand some of the reaction you initially got, but very well written response to it all.

I will say though that your experiences with iOS may not be that widespread - It may also just be my usage, but I've really not had very many issues with iOS 14, or 13 for that matter - A few with the early betas of 14, but none with the release build at all. :)

Why would either of you need to be converted? It’s all down to personal preference as a smartphone am essentially performs the same tasks regardless of brand. I prefer iOS but I’m under no illusions my friends and associates who may use Android are using mostly the same apps as me albeit with a different looking interface.

I really don't notice a difference between iOS 13 and 14. Performance and battery life are exactly the same. I think my one complaint is the buttons on the Music App. I've gotten so used to the placement of the library button that I find myself pressing the wrong thing now. I guess I'll have to train myself to become familiar with the new layout.

Tbh iOS 14 is a great update for me, my phone is notably snappier than on iOS 13 and I’ve noticed that a lot of bugs has been fixed. Which iPhone do you have?

I hate the font, most noticeable on my calendar app--reminds me of comic sans (I know it isn't but my hatred for it is similar to someone who is a typography enthusiast when presented with comic sans as the only font option).

Not a fan of the very left to the first screen...whatever that's called. I think it's nice I see the battery for my devices e.g. watch, phone and AirPods when in use *but* they could have done better...once I've customized it...however the design of it is....will take some time to get used to.

still the biggest complaint from me is the font. everything else--I can get used to.

If there were more Useful widgets in iOS 14 and there will be eventually It would be more appealable

Also on a second note wait for a couple more updates and things will become less buggy

This update is the most stupidest update ive seen.

i already had my apps arranged one way, and separated in in folders. now they are all over the place. I got apps i dont want people see, if they happen to glance at my phone. And now they show up in the stupid ass “app Library”
Sucks 👎🏻👎🏻 Not a fan!

Wish you'd tell us how you really feel.

There are a few things that I could do without in iOS 14, but overall, it's a good update. Lots of good new stuff here.

What you already had in terms of app organization and folders shouldn't get affected by the update or the App Library as that's simply an extra screen at the end of your home screens that doesn't impact the existing home screens themselves.
