This thread makes no sense. Ok so don’t use widgets and keep your pages of icons.
So what’s different then?

I am more focused on what third party developers can do with widgets on the iPad.

the calendar widget on my screenshots t is a native Calendar. Calendars 5 is not iOS 14 compatible yet. I prefer it though because it combines Reminders and Events.
What do you mean by "native Calendar"? Again, I don't have this widget available on my device but it looks pretty close to something I would have jailbroken for in the past.
Hopefully, that will change once iOS 14 I master is released.Probably nothing as widgets on iPadOS stay exactly whey there were.
The back tap feature is very sensitive at the moment. I had to turn off even the three-taps feature as it occasionally activated when I put the phone down or adjusted it in my hand.
IOS 14 Drives me crazy for one reason. I've gotten accustomed to searching for an app as a fast way to launch it. Now search doesn't show apps, you have to go to the app library to search for apps. It's remarkably annoying.
Agree. I have the iOS 14 beta on my primary phone, and it feels like a refined iOS 13.
I don’t understand the App library at all, or its appeal.

Just tested this - your post is remarkably inaccurate ... pulled down on my home screen and entered "You" in the search field and got this (note the YouTube icon at the very top of the search results)... looks like it found the app to me:

I honestly don't know what you guys mean. To me, this version seems the even bigger overhaul than iOS 7, perhaps biggest since the original iPhone OS. It doesn't matter anyway, you could have a billion new features and there will still be some around here who will say no much has changed. I bet there would be a threat like this every single year if you look for it

I do. Instead of having 10 pages on my iPhone, I only have 2 pages.
The first one is the home screen with mostly widgets and some essential app icons.
Second one, app library with everything else. Pretty simple!
I have a lot of apps and only 4 pages: Common use apps / daily use apps / frequent apps / folders. The App Library (I am willing to try it) so far has shown me nothing from improving my use or simplifying my actions.
Final conclusion is still out.
I think for most iEnthusiasts like who you'll find around these parts, this is going to be the general consensus. I, too, have maintained my pre-iOS 14 home screen layout and don't plan on shifting everything around to take advantage of the new app management system.I would agree with this. I have 207 apps installed... and my screen(s) layout has evolved over time to what it is today. I have things where I can find them (muscle memory), and don't really see the point of the App Library YET. That may change, as it did when Apple introduced folders or expanded the number of apps that could be placed in a single folder, etc.
It is, after all, only beta 2 of this new paradigm, so we will have to see how this works out. That said, I have pretty much settled on a set of widgets in my stack widget.
Since the dawn of iOS people have been clamoring for Apple to give us options. "Why's it gotta be this way? Why can't Apple give us the option to...?" day in and day out. Apple has been listening and is finally starting to cater to that crowd.
I’ve not used the developer beta but as others have said, the app library is obviously a power user feature - you can ignore it if you like.
And even though Apple hasn’t announced it as so, iOS 14 is obviously a refinement of/apology for iOS 13 - which I will be very happy to receive.
Finally - with so much low hanging fruit gone, I think that we’re entering an era where the ‘wow’’ software features will go hand in hand with new hardware features. And that’s ok.
I think it can be seen both ways -- many new users as well as less technical users who don't really think about most of these type of things and perhaps just install a variety of different apps might find it useful (even if accidentally) in the sense that they would no longer have pages and pages of apps they installed in the random order that they installed, but something more organized in some sense with less pages to scroll through.I’ve not used the developer beta but as others have said, the app library is obviously a power user feature - you can ignore it if you like.

That's an interesting (and quite possibly true) take.If anything, iOS 14 is laying the framework for the transition to ARM on the Mac side of things, especially with respect to the changes in Big Sur that are coming at the same time.
I’m on the public beta. Right now I’m only using the weather widget. I had all my apps in folders which I kept. I moved the less used folders to a second page which I’m hiding. The only thing I wish users could do is place things wherever they want on the home screen. It could still snap into a grid but rather than starting at the top left you could start from the bottom right. Especially if you wanted a clean home screen with just a few apps shown. They’re easier to reach when they’re at the bottom of the screen.installed the PB beta and ....it's fine? like most of the power users on this thread, not sure how i feel about widgets taking up so much space from my finely-manicured homescreen. also not thrilled about having to go back to the stock calendar, reminder and weather apps for widgets when i haven't used those apps in YEARS (fantastical and carrot FTW). will have to wait for those apps to have widgets to really see how much this update changes my workflow.
my second page has always been just folders in alpha order....so basically app library. i dont see myself turning that control over apple...ive got 10 years of muscle memory (or however many since folders) on where my apps are.
good news is that i dont have to use any of these new features. apple isn't forcing anyone to use widgets or app library. i'll play with them throughout the beta period but im a creature of habit.
