This is hilarious. It makes no difference to me but makes lots of sense as a marketing move for controversy and free press releases. Actually similar to their strategy for the 24" iMac design.

Just saying, Dell XPS laptops have had super thin bezels with absolutely need for a notch for the last 7 years or so. And with better resolution too.
They fixed their webcam design in 2019 actually. Before that it was horrible for your chin.

Not at all, it would sit in the unused central portion of the menu bar, and in the small letterboxed black bar when viewing any 16x9 content. It would just be an odd thing at first that you get used to relatively quickly, just like the notches on phones.

no they hadnt...when they did had very thin bezel the webcamera was in the keyboard
now the top bezel is a little bit thicker and there is just ambient lightning and 720p webcam, no dot projector or flood illuminator or 1080p camera or infrared camera
You cant bend physics..but again, this is logical IF apple go with very thin bezels...because otherwise to have the current bezel and still have a notch that would be very stuupid even with the best faceID outhere

No because you’d still have a full 16:10 screen area as now, there would just be an extra bar at the top either side of the notch like with the iPhones. It’s not eating into the display area, it’s an addition that would otherwise be useless bezel anyway ?‍♂️

I am really interested in the M1X MB Pro 16" to replace my 2015 MBP, but if its got a notch then I highly doubt I will go for it. Just doesn't make sense with the large footprint that a laptop has, that it would need a notch to house a camera. On an iphone with very limited space it is understandable. If it does have a notch, these new MB Pros will still sell very well though, just not by me. Ill just stick to my current MBP which still runs very well, but getting long in the tooth.

I will buy one notch or no notch because I truly need a new laptop right now, but I won't be happy if there's a notch that impairs usability of the menu bar.

Not at all a dealbreaker, but I still think it's a troll. I tend to think if the notch was true, it would have leaked a long time before now. Someone is just taking advantage of all the built up anticipation to enjoy a little attention.

There will be no notch. Just a thinner bezel.

If I my spectre x360 I bought almost 2 years ago has windows hello with face ID and no notch but with a thinner bezel, then the the Macbook Pro will sure the hell do the same thing.

It's almost certainly happening. All the pieces fit e.g. the 74 pixel taller resolution from MacOS itself, and now there's a leak of the panel (I doubt anyone's going to that much trouble to make a fake component leak).

Until it's officially revealed by apple, i'm still going to say there will be no notch. Will definitely be interested to see if there is an notch....and wouldn't be surprised if i'm wrong.

Was thinking about going back to Mac in the future (even though I love my spectre x360), but with a notch, i'll have to see the macbook pro in person before I buy one.

I mean I guess Apple themselves could be throwing out a red herring to distract from any genuine last minute leaks, but I don't really see the benefit for them? If someone gets hold of an actual chassis and posts a pic online, that's still going viral whether they've tried to preoccupy everyone with talking about a display notch or not. Personally I don't think a notch is even going to be all that noticeable on such a big display, especially as you have your whole 16:10 area available anyway... but then tbh if they decided to delete the FaceTime camera altogether and sell it as an accessory with a true edge to edge screen with no notch I think I'd be fine with that too! Just anxious for a decent upgrade to my 2015 15" at this point ?

With the 24" iMac, Apple has made one thing clear: they want to ship recognizable designs.
Recognizable first, beautiful second.
This results in lots of free press and consequently, free marketing.
Personally, I don't care one bit, obviously there will be an option to black out the notch surroundings and enjoy a plain screen.
But it's still hilarious. People will go mad over this for no valid reason and I'd like to hug whoever had this idea.
