Still up on site, so i take it not discontinued and not updated just the same:mad:

Will still buy tomorrow as i have no interest in touch or the other updates.

They could have:

-Added Wi-Fi for Airplay
-Switched from HDD to Flash Memory
-Added a camera
-Made it thinner (which the Flash memory would have done)

There were plenty of potential upgrades to bring this iPod from the depths, but they failed to take advantage.

I would probably be ordering one right now if they did all the things I just listed.

What more could they do with it really? It will probably still be around, but the future is touch.

They could update the capacity to 250gb, introduce new software/an updated interface, add an FM tuner. It still has plenty of room for improvement; I really was expecting a refresh. And while flash memory is much faster and practical, it's also a lot more expensive. I know I'd rather have more storage for the $, even if it's a a bit slower.

So, ipod touch with more capacity.......

Not sure what was worse...

The "kick to the teeth" to Classic fans by going out of his way to mention updates to the "entire ipod line".

Or not, at least, saying goodbye to the device that put them on the map.

********** LAME!!!!! LAME LAME LAME!!!!

Nothing on the Classic!!!! The Nano simply got smaller physically!!!!

I WANT a flash-memory based iPod that has 64GB or more storage. I don't need all the Touch crap.

FAIL BIG TIME!!!

Steve said: "No new ipod calssic for you."
I was hopping some kind of update. But nothing. Not even an bigger hdd.
Anyway Ping Bing and no classic. To bad my money won't go to steve's uber deep pocket.

I was also hoping for an upgrade. ah well, i'll buy the current one on the back to school special.

The Classic has most likely been discontinued. :( Especially since Steve said that *every single iPod* was getting a revamp, but left the Classic out. I guess it's not part of the club anymore.

This year wasn't probably the year to update the Classic, maybe later on? who knows..

Would have liked:

Wifi and Bluetooth (to stream internet radio [DI.FM - Trance])
320GB hard drive
HD radio

Well, I'm feeling a little better at least, I just bought one a week ago :). This doesn't bode well for the line, though; when Jobs updates "every" iPod without mentioning the Classic, it's in trouble.

I'm not too sure the classic needed a full redesign but at least a new interface and some attention. I don't think many people will fill up 160gb in a hurry but they could of at least lowered the price tag!

Guess it's safe to pick up one now then. I thought they'd at least add FM radio, but I'm happy it's still alive. Click wheel ftw.

I think it's clear now that Steve doesn't consider the iPod Classic an iPod any more.

I think the iPod Classic will stick around until they can make an iPod touch that exceeds 100GB.

The other option is that the iPod Classic will stick around until they sell through all of the inventory. I tend to think this isn't likely because they haven't put them on sale or in the refurb store.

Regardless, I expect we'll be hearing some clarification on this by the end of the week.

Oh - and for the past two years now I've predicted the demise of the iPod Classic. So far I'm 0 for 2.

3rd times a charm:rolleyes:

The classic is probably still profitable. The factories are pumping out as many as they need. They serve a high-capacity need that can't be fulfillled by the touch yet. As long as all that's true, I think they'll keep pressing them and shippin' 'em out. Why not? I bought one this year, and even though I have a 3g touch and I'm getting the 4g touch, I'll never get rid of that classic. It pwns the touch for the car, taking the dog for walks, and for resting, falling asleep to music.

Did I actually just say "pwns"?

with each new change to the ipod line, the classic gets less and less sales and since :apple: is a Supply & Demand company, production & testing costs for the small market of people that buy them probably equals not profitable so they just keep it the same and save the loss of cost of R&D. The iPod Classic is still on the line for the simple reason of being a 'Classic' remembrance of past times...

i love my 160GB classic. no flash storage matches it yet. whole music/podcast collection on it.

Why are people 'uber disappointed'?

It IS still for sale and DOES fulfil a specific market - those with large libraries, who, like me do not want fancy-ass touch devices.

We want it SIMPLE and not over-complicated.

It is still for sale. Stop acting as though they've yanked it from within your reach, you can still buy one. Jeez.

Goodbye click-wheels?

Even though I love the touch interface of my iPhone, for exercising, nothing beats an iPod with a click-wheel. I sincerely hope Apple doesn't abandon the click-wheel and the classic.
