I love the Classic. Lots of people say it's useless because no one has 160GB of music, but hello, what about video?
My iTunes library is 2200GB. Apple Lossless files eat the iPod Classic for breakfast.

Maybe when somebody start open classics and swapping the hdd for an ssd. I would prefer an better dac and better battery than an ssd.
40hours? what bit rate are you using?
It varies but mostly the default iTunes 256kps.
ThanksLet's see if my classic likes 320 VBR AAC
If it lasts more than 30 hours I'm a happy camper
I hope that changing song frequently won't drain it's battery too bad

In audio, it exceeded Apples claims by a wide margin, playing our test tracks for 58 hours and 14 minutes
Aren't you kinda in the wrong topic?I have a phone and I now have an iPad. Why would I need to spend the money on a Touch? Doesn't the iPhone do everything a Touch does, and more? I must be missing something obvious.
iPod Classic = Ford Crown Victoria.
It's the best at what it does, in a fairly small, not-so-profitable market segment, and you can't really go anywhere else for a similar product. If this analogy holds, Apple will drag the death of the classic out for YEARS. I think I first heard about the phasing out of the Crown Vic back in 1999 or so, and it's STILL around, although just barely.
Yeah, but I was responding to the folks saying that the iPod Classic is dead because everyone will buy a Touch. I never understood why anyone would buy a Touch.
But I'm just mad that my iPod 5th Gen wont play on my pretty new iPod speakers so I may have to buy a new iPod classic and you'all are saying that the Classic is going to be discontinued or something.
And to answer the next question, the most important factors in favor of the Classic, to me that is, is that I can raise/lower the volume and skip ahead songs while the iPod is in my coat pocket, and I don't have to enter a password to get into the library. I carried a Touch for a while, and this drove me nuts.
