Still no answer from Att about VPN and phone NumberSync phone calls. If I have my iMac with canadian VPN I can answer the calls. Billing is 2 days delayed.

BTW works great, but on my iPad air2 it says that it needs to be on wifi, when wifi is on with celluar also on. I turn of cellular and I can use it. Wifi assist is off.

I've liked Att that they first of all test their products and only after , may be with some delay, offer them to us. Now Att went T-mo's way, they offer a product with some bugs and lack of info.

I would like to make a suggestion but I need to be sure I understand first. Is the issue that you cannot call from your iPad until you turn cellular off? What it's telling you is that you need to be connected to a Wifi network when you try to use it for calling and for receiving calls. The Numbersync service will not work over the iPad LTE. Now, I may have misunderstood so let me know if were talking the same thing.

Problem 1: I have my cell data on and my wifi on and cannot make a call. "Connect to wifi network to make a cll" When I disconnect cell data and leave my wifi on I can make a call.
Problem 2: With Canadian VPN I can make and recieve calls, should I pay for roaming and long distance?

Keep in mind what this service is. This is to go across the internet to a mobile system using WiFi calling. Your calls meet with the calls coming over towers then on to completion. If your phone calling plan is billed for Canada calls then this will act the same. The service itself is only available in the US and Puerto Rico. If your LTE iPad is connected to WiFi when you try the call, it should work. My iPad is Wifi only so I can't test for you but I'm sure others can.

No., doesn't work. Only when cell data off. Also I don't see device list on my iphone, I cannot disconnect my imac and leave my ipad connected. I only can disconnect my imac on my iMac.

I cannot make calls when my iPhone os off. Most of the people can.

I hope my call goes to my iphone and after to the tower and billed according to the connection of my iphone. I'm going to contact CS to remove this feature from my account

Update:
I've just ccalled Att and asked them to remove this option from my plan. I may be try to reactivate it later. I think my activation didn't go thru.

I don't seem to be having that problem. With my iPad Air on wifi and cell data on was able to call my google voice number using my iPad while my iPhone is on cell only.

I try to make calls when my iphone is off(not on LTE), when it is on it shows sometimes on iphone that the call is re-routed thru the iphone with a green strip on the top .

UPDATE: I have a solution. I called Att Thursday night and disconnected NumberSync from my line. It took only 1 minute. Right now I connected NumberSync back again and it works perfectly on my iPad. iMac wanted to go for wifi call thtough my cell. iPhone off = no calls on iMac. Simply rebooted iMac and it works now even with iPhone off.

There is still a small glitch on ipad with wifi/cell data.
1. I disactivate wifi, leave cell data active
2. Try to make a phone call - get a message to be connected to wifi.
3. Connect wifi, call goes to nowhere , it says using my iPhone and call failed (iphone is off)

Solution, turn off cell data, make a test phone call and turn it on.

Tried the same on my other iphone/ipad with other accounts - same story. FaceTime have some problem on detecting if it is on wifi or cell data. Wifi assist was off.
I turned off wifi, turn it on - no ability to call, I waited 3 minutes and tried again, it works.

I think it needs some time for FaceTime to update what connection iPad has.

I have found that when testing with the turn the phone off method, my phone has to be off for a little while for it to try to use wifi only calling. Otherwise, my watch and iPad seem to think the phone is still on and the call fails. After I wait about 3-4 min, it seems to work.

I don't think the iPad 3 is compatible. I got it working on my watch and MacBook but there's no setting for it in the iPad 3. It still says when phone is nearby.

Has anyone tried wifi calling from apple watch using Bluetooth headset, while iphone is on airplane mode or switched off? I'm curious to know if the audio gets routed to headset or plays through watch speaker

Plays through the watch speaker. I tested first by making sure my headset was connected to my watch and just made a call. I tested second by starting music from the watch to headset then making a call. The music on the headset stopped during the call but all audio was through the watch. Unless I missed something, no talking through the watch to bluetooth headset.

I just noticed something new in 9.3, it may have been in iOS 9.2, so it is at least new to me. When a call is started on the Mac using numbersync it can be handed off to the iPhone. The call transfers to the handset and disconnects on the Mac. It doesn't seem to go the other way, from the handset to the Mac. But it is cool. If someone can check this using 9.2, I would appreciate it.

Any issues since 9.2.1 with receiving texts again? Mine have stopped since then.

*edit* never mind, removed numbersync and it's still not fixed. Having an issue receiving SMS messages only from just Verizon customers. How lovely!

I just got this text message from AT&T stating that they were now enabling Numbersync on cellular devices even when they weren't connected to Wifi. A check to their website confirms this.

Sweet! Maybe my next iPad will be a cellular one again. It would be nice to not have to fiddle with tethering whenever I'm out. Now if only Mac laptops would have their own built in cellular options!

Nice!! I wonder if this would work with two iPhones? I have one for work and one of my own, and it'd make my life much easier if it did!
From a technical standpoint, yes it would work. From an as implemented on the phones right now, nope. They would have to add a way to pick which number your outbound calls came from. You could feature request it.

This change is not working for me. if I turn off wifi on my iPad, I get the message that wifi must be active to make or receive calls. if I turn wifi on, I can make or receive calls on my iPad. I disabled wifi calling and activated again and still does not work.

Huh, that's strange. What OS are you running on your devices? Maybe it's just taking a little while to fully deploy.

Just got this new message about making and receiving calls while abroad. Pretty nice.

both devices on 9.3? go to settings/general/about and make sure you have carrier update 24.1

I tried
-att iphone att ipad - works,

-t-mobile iphone att ipad - works

-t-mobile iphone t-mobile ipad - works

-att iphone t-mobile ipad - works

The only thing you need 9.3 and new carrier 24.1 update

It didn't work on 9.2.1 . You need to disactivate it and reactivate. If this doesn't work please contact Att and ask them to reset NumberSync (remove it) , wait 30 min and reactivate it on your phone. I had this problem and reported the solution here, helped couple guys.

Now I'm going to get T-mobile ipad plans and use ipad abroad for international calls back home. Postpaid iPads have the same great T-mo roaming. Once again it should be not prepaid, but postpaid plan.

We need somebody abroad to try this wificalling without VPN. OMG, just came back home and next trip in almost 2 weeks :-(
