Now that I have numbersync working, I no longer see the ability to handoff calls. I used to be able to take a call on my ipad, then hand it off to my iphone. Is this functionality now gone with numbersync / wifi calling on the ipad?

Did you have continuity working before? If so, you may already be setup. It looks on the iPad very similar to the old feature. On the iPhone, look under calls on other devices and see if your iPad is not already listed. Also, put your phone in airplane mode and make a test call using facetime on your iPad.

Otherwise, the code comes from the carrier which may be overwhelmed at the moment but I'm just taking a guess. I do recall having to setup the iPad with an extra step but keep trying. I completed my setup during Beta 2 and left it since then and it has continued to work so details unfortunately are cloudy at the moment.

Update: Testing my iPad, I do not have Numbersync active at the moment. Working on it now.

Update 2: Fixed. I turned off Calls from iPhone on my iPad, I turned off Allow Calls On: iPad in my phone settings. I went to another setting and came back to Facetime on my iPad. I was given an updated menu that said Turn on WiFi Calling. I did, received a code that I entered on my iPhone, and was given a few boxes to verify address on my iPad. Setup complete again and working.

@gsmornot, thank you for your help with this! I tried your suggestions and sadly it's still not working on my iPad :( It's working fine on my Macbook Pro, oddly enough. Whenever I go into FaceTime > Calls from iPhone, and select "Upgrade to Wifi Calling," I get the warning popup that says "Upgrade to Wifi Calling?" I tap Enable, and then nothing else happens on my iPad. My iPhone gets the box where I'm supposed to enter in the six-digit code, but no window with the code appears on the iPad. It's so odd! I'll keep trying it...

I got the prompt code on my iMac and iPad but not my MacBook Air.

I have a 2009 macbook pro and a 2011 mac and cannot enable number sync on these devices. I still can make calls on them but uses my iPhone 6s plus to make the calls. They appear in the phone settings and they are enabled. I never received a message in FaceTime app if I wanted to use wifi to make calls. I was able to enable numbersync on my iPad 2. Just wondering if I'm missing something or what.

So, can I travel internationally carrying my phone with me keeping it on airplane mode and connect to local wifi for making phone calls? Will it help avoiding international roaming charges and allow making calls as if you are still in the US?

NumberSync calls can only be made from the U.S., Puerto Rico or U.S. Virgin Islands. Service isn’t available outside of the U.S., Puerto Rico, or U.S. Virgin Islands. Rates for domestic calls are based on your existing wireless rate plan. International rates from your existing rate plan or international package apply for calls made to international phone numbers.

A summary of calls will be included in the Voice Usage Summary section of your bill. The call detail section of your bill will provide a rate code for each call:
  • WIFI - Indicates Wi-Fi calls from your iPhone primary device
  • NBSC - Indicates NumberSync calls from secondary devices

I have At&t in the U.S., when I am traveling outside the U.S.can I connect to wifi in another country and make a call to a U.S. phone number and will it be counted as a domestic call?
People have tested numbersync call with phone switched off, so the phone doesn't have to be on At&t network for this to work.

Ugh, you've got to be kidding me, Apple. It's not like my 2011 MBP is missing any required hardware... It has an Internet connection which is all you need for this to work. It's not like AirDrop where it "requires" BT LE to function.

Thanks for the info though, I've been trying to figure this out since yesterday.

AGH! Have been smacking around my 2011 MBP trying to get the NumberSync prompt to show up in FaceTime! Now, I know it was nothing I was doing wrong.

On a related note, I have replaced the Airport Card in this machine to the 2012 version and used the Continuity Activation tool to enable full Handoff/Continuity and that works beautifully. I am going to head over the CAT thread and see if anyone over there can code a trick to get NumberSync working this way.

If I set up NumberSync with my phone and iPad, do both devices have to be on wifi for this to work? Can I make and receive calls on my LTE iPad? I am rarely connected to wifi.

iPhone can be on any network, or even completely powered off. iPad must be on WiFi, but it doesn't matter what WiFi network it's connected to. For the time being, the LTE iPad cannot receive calls while using the cellular network.

Just activated Canadian, Toronto VPN ip address and was able to call my landline. Still no phone call in my log, I will see if they going to charge me for that. I was physically in the USA.

A
so my iPad says all the time that I have to be on wifi, only when I turn off cell data it works. Wifi assist is also off. So the product is still not well tested and have some bugs. This is so bad Att follows this populist t-mo with partially working products.

With update 9.2 Beta 2 we now have WiFi calling on all iCloud connected devices. Just doing some testing after setup with my iPad and Apple Watch and it works great. With my phone in airplane mode I can start and have a call via my watch or iPad over my WiFi network.

To setup, settings-phone-wifi calling and turn on the option to allow other devices following a short AT&T setup. Then on iPad and Watch app switch on the service. With the iPad I had to enter a code on my phone similar to the first time I allowed calls to-from the iPad. Now, calls can be made from anywhere with the phone nearby or not. I have not tested yet with other features but thought I would start the discussion on this first.

I updated to 9.2 on my 6s, and not seeing the option. Only seeing the "nearby" option. :(

Do you have AT&T? Have to ask. If so, try opening settings and going to general-about to see if you're pushed a new carrier update.
