Anyone know what this 12 pin adapter looks like? If it’s meant to plug in to the PSU, it won’t work, because the Mac Pro board already needs an adapter. If it’s an adapter at the cable, then we are good.
The 2x8 to 12 pin adapter is included with every Nvidia RTX 3000 series Founder edition.
You just need the Belkin cables.

Awesome !
Do you just use the machine for windows and what are you rendering with?
I use the Mac Pro to make 3d renders with 3ds Max + Fstorm render (Cuda based renderer) on Windows 10.
The MacOS partition is used exclusively for audio/video editing with Logic and Final Cut.

I'm looking at water cooled GPUs that are filled with coolant, sealed, and leak tested at the factory like the EVGA hybrid. Would it be dumb to put anything liquid cooled in a $12k workstation? Would there even be a good place to mount the radiator?

If it’s a 120mm rad you could tie it somewhere at the top of the system. If it is a bigger rad then the Mac Pro design isn’t suitable for it. The system doesn’t have a decent location to let the heat move out of the system efficiently. Might block the heat from the CPU being removed efficiently too.

Well the million dollar question, will the 3090 saturate a PCIE Gen3 X16 slot?

AIO closed loop liquid coolers are very reliable. They’re used in the PC space all the time even in mission critical systems and haven’t been considered exotic for a while. The most likely part of the system to fail is the pump, and usually you can try to find MTBF data for any given pump system to make an educated decision.

Welp, I’m number 35 in line at Microcenter for the 3080 for my Mac Pro tower lol. There are a couple hundred people here and only 80 cards. Im guess I’m the only guy here putting it in a Mac. I’ll post with bench marks
Wowwww have fun! I’ll be refreshing various websites at 6:00a.

eBay scalpers have bought everything and are already listing cards that they haven’t received yet. This is almost toilet paper level bad. It looks like they are bidding up their own listings and ruining prices for us.

So 3080 likely to be fine, but 3090 won't fit right?

the eBay listings are being artificially raised by a group of anti-scalpers in the nvidia sub Reddit

Making some cosmetic hacks on the plastic near the fans would gain you a very maximum of 321mm, enough to fit the RTX 3090.

Damn all online stores are delaying, even after they promised next day shipping. There are also leaks of 20GB version of the 3080.

I'm waiting for the RTX3080 20GB version or someone testing the 3090 power consumption and fitting inside the Mac Pro.
10GB for gpu rendering are too few, for 2K video games+dlss are ok.

Honestly with 16GB in my W5700X, only 10GB for the 3080 does sound a little light!

Applications in Windows utilise more than that, even demanding games at 2K resolution.
