I'm sorry but it's confusing. So there's no way to connect the XDR display to the RTX 3080 ?
How in the world does "alternate connection" equate to "no way to connect"?
I linked a list of methods to connect a USB-C display. Some of them apply to the XDR.

You should be able to connect the XDR to any modern GPU thru a Thunderbolt 3 add-in card. Two DisplayPort cables go from the GPU to the add-in card and one Thunderbolt 3 cable goes from the add-in card to the XDR.

Worked for me when I had the 2080 Ti.
Thunderbolt 3 add-in card is one of the listed methods, but it is not required with cards like the 2080 Ti that support Display Stream Compression. With DSC, only a single HBR2 connection is required for 6K.
I think only Apple Macs and Black Magic eGPUs have Thunderbolt 3 controllers that support dual HBR3 to allow 6K without DSC. A Thunderbolt 3 add-in card probably requires special firmware to allow dual HBR3. There are Thunderbolt 3 firmware patches that people apply to Thunderbolt 3 add-in cards or Thunderbolt controllers on PC motherboards for Hackintosh, but I don't think anyone has tested non-DSC dual HBR3 connection to XDR yet with those.

Yes there is as I posted above with a Bidirectional USB Type-C to DisplayPort Cable.
Bidirectional USB-C to DisplayPort cable is one of the listed methods. You do not get any of the USB features of the display with that cable since it does not include USB. The USB features of the XDR are presets, brightness control, and USB ports. That is why the Belkin charge and sync cable is preferable.

I should have mentioned " easily " with the 2080Ti it's the same cable connected to the screen and to either the AMD or the NVIDIA.

With the RTX 3080, as far as I understand from the post you referred to, only the Belkin Charge and Sync Cable for Huawei VR Glass will work with the XDR ?

When I say work I mean : Full 6K HDR with USB connectivity and brightness control etc...

I don't need any of those "features". I use "Monitor Control" and have a USB expansion hub.

As far as I know Monitor control is for Mac only, any Windows 10 version I'm not aware of?

This is the first blower card I’ve seen which sounds ideal for the MP.

I wouldn't say my personal experience with a reference blower Vega 64 in my MP 7,1 was ideal in terms of sound.

Granted it's a famously hot card but I don't think the blower benefited all that much from the wind tunnel design over one of my regular PC cases. Think a multi fan array does the best job of achieving the same cooling with a lot less noise even in the 7,1.

Outside of MPX modules of course.

Looks like ‘almost’ everyone who ordered online got stiffed. I asked for next day delivery for Friday. After that they delist it, tell everyone they don’t have stock, tell everyone to wait and don’t update customers.

Yup, getting a 3080 is next to impossible right now. All we can do is be patient and try again this week.

I'm curious on thebNVidia side of this in OSX why one couldn't use NVidia drivers and work arounds from other OSX installations. I know OSX has an EFI partition, obtain and copy the nvidia kexts into extensions under library, then install the kexts in OSX itself. Most likely will have to turn off OSX system checking (the proper name escapes me right now), but I'm pretty sure there's a way. I had 8800GTXs in before they supported them so right now, I'm firmly believing Apple is just blocking NVidia identifiers via EFI as there is no reason, I believe, for them not to work even as base none accelerated Graphics.

As far as gaming in OSX, we can definitely thank Apple for that. As soon as we started getting AAA titles, they eliminate all dedicated GPUs that could play them. If I had the $6k to buy the new Mac Pro, I'd jump at it. Even as a PC, strictly running Windows, its price comparable component wise and performance (With a gaming GPU). I've almost got that amount in my i9 10900X system at this point.

Apple could really come in and kick backsides for off the shelf gaming with a consumer version of the Mac Pro. They gain ground and then take twice as many steps back.

Sorry if this has been mentioned, but will the new Radeon Big Navi GPU's be available to use in the Mac Pro 7.1?

OS X branding hasn’t been used since Mavericks.

It’s macOS 11 now. 😝

Driver development and compatibility requires a lot more work than just copying old kexts to new systems. The Radeon drivers have to be rewritten and checked for bugs with every major yearly macOS update. There are plenty of changes under the hood of an operating system that you don’t see on the surface.

I really hope Apple don't abandon updates and new hardware for the Mac Pro 7,1. A 'Big Navi' MPX module would be a top seller IMO.

got my RTX 3080 today
installed in the Mac Pro 7,1 very easy process, also installed latest nvidia driver

doing fast testing using 3dmark and play doom eternal well it is a 100% up performance vs W5700X

Did you try FS2020 with your card ? Because l would like to know if this card is really good for 4K sim and to my futur VR Reverb G2.

How did you connect the screen hdmi / USB-C ?

I will test FS2020 later
My monitor is an LG 38GN950-B (3840x1600@160hz G-Sync) and I connected my monitor from nvidia card using display port to DP cable and use hdmi to hdmi cable from W5700X, the monitor will auto detect depend on the OS selection (I mention early that I disable W5700X in windows)

Sorry if I ask again, but does sleep work on macOS with the 3080 installed? This would be a deal breaker for me, so any insights are greatly appreciated!

really curious if any of you folks with both AMD and Nvidia cards have tried setting up both macos and windows in simultaneous virtualised environments, with the respective cards assigned to the os best suited to them.

I am torn between getting a 3080+Belkin cable (for the XDR) now and waiting for BigNavi... (1st world problems)
