I don't know. If I have to cut something away from Mac Pro to run Nvidia + Windows 10, I'd rather use Mac Pro as a sole Mac OS machine while building wholly a new PC for Nvidia.

It's great that you guys are working to put Nvidia in Mac Pro, but it being non AMD and probably never run in Mac OS, why try so hard to run through windows...

Of course, to some people, having one machine is must.. but I can't stop thinking all this try is creating more problem to meet that one requirement.

Why buy a 2nd PC if it's doable on the Mac Pro? After all Apple redesigned the Mac Pro to meet such needs and they know people are going to put Nvidia cards under bootcamp.

I may be one of the very few who buy a Mac because of the brand name but believe it or not, I gave up on building custom PCs long time ago and the reason why I got a Mac pro it's because :

- Expandability, this is a very critical point and the reason why i didn't buy the trashcan in the past
- Bootcamp support as I need to run some apps under windows
- Good performance although not up to some TR CPUs
- It just works out of the box, everything is tested so no headache whatsoever
- The machine is almost silent even under heavy loads, fan ramps up occasionally
- Resale value; no Custom PC come close to that so it's a good investment after all
- I personally like the design, it blends nicely with my home office decoration ( waiting for an XDR display)

And the list goes on but the point is, if you can have two machine into a single one why build a custom PC?

I know I'm going to use Windows 60% of the time and render with an Nvidia card but the above list justifies the purchase IMHO.

It depends on how you define "doable" with that Mac Pro. With that kind of performance machine, I'd rather have full control over what I'd do with. Running bootcamp Windows 10 on Mac Pro is already limited enough so that you can't really tinker with hardware settings and what not.

Also, what I do on Mac OS and Windows10 are sufficient enough so that I can't stand to use one machine to fit all my needs (as well shown in my signature). For example, I can't stand to think myself booting over and over to switch between Mac OS and Windows. I could get rid of all machines I own, and get a nicely configured Mac Pro, but I would never do. It just blows my mind that a person would modify (destroy) part of his Mac Pro to install stuff that only works in Windows 10.

Well at the end, it's all about one's preference I guess.

It's all about meeting our needs.

I have to be on mac (xcode developments)
I do not want to deprive me of using certain programs under windows: FS2020

No windows machine is as good as the mac pro: XEON, RAM ECC, frabrication quality.

It is unbearable for me to work under windows because system instavle, reboot after each update, no unix command line and so on.

I support the idea of running bootcamp because it's the best solution.

After 1 reboot to run bootcamp will always be less than this mess under windows.

I will buy a 3090 to run HP reverb G2. And I share the point of view of "IA64 said".

I totally share the view of "IA64" wholeheartedly.

However, that being said, I also wouldn't "physically modify" or as jinnyman puts it; "destroy" part(s) of my Mac Pro, just to install stuff (3090) that only works on the bootcamp side.

Same here. I have a PC and a Mac Pro at my desk for different applications. Having more than one machine around is something I find quite convenient overall, nice for redundancy and for troubleshooting too. I keep them logged into a user session in hibernation at all times and wake them up as needed. Rebooting over and over would be a total no-go.

If I was into gaming on PC I'd get yet another machine just for that (not into having my work machine running store fronts and copy protection stuff and having to update GPU drivers all the time).

Another idea is to put the card in en external egpu box thunderbolt 3.

like Razer Core X Chroma Thunderbolt 3 ?

I am not sure it will fit in an external box, and I doubt you will get close to the bandwidth required.
My 2080 super just on estimations, is about 20% slower in a Razor Core X vs inside my PC. The difference is very noticeable and a waste on a 3090 I imagine.

I will add though I found windows 10 and bootcamp rock solid with the egpu. I didnt have the same experience in Mac OS with the AMD W5700 however.

Moving forward I will only ever use an egpu with a laptop. If a desktop, it will always be in the box.

I believe the AMD drivers aren't mature enough. See W5700 problems under Mac OS, very embarrassing.

This very issue has left me with a very reduced desire to use Apple for pro work.

The other main reason not to bother with AMD, is CUDA.
if you are a pure Mac user though, not much choice in the matter.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing.

How does the card perform? Any hiccups? Did it fit without any mods? Noise? Does increase the internal case temp significantly?

I'm I correct that you have your card in PCI-E slot 5 and Sonnet in slot 3? What's in slot 4?

Thanks again :)

The card performs slightly better than the MSI version I purchased last week.

Yes it fit without any mods, no issues or sound, I do notice a little more heat coming out of the back of the computer but that’s about it

yes I used slot 5, because I wanted the least restrictive point for airflow. The other card is an M.2PCIE card

Performance likely between 3080 and 3090.

If every other GPU "advance" AMD has made is anything to go by ;)

Can anyone please confirm that the rxt 3090 indeed doesn’t fit inside a mac pro ?

all the bla bla for nothing in the end the RTX3090FE does fit just fine, * without Cutting the FAN Bezel Plastic *

if you read my Post on site 1 or 2, i made clear that if the Sapphire 5700XT Nitro Fits in the Macpro , so will the
3090FE. but even better at the end of the Day without cutting nothing.

STEP 1.Open MacPro Case , take out x 3 slot plates , Remove the PCI SLOT Holder on both Sides.
STEP 2.Put the Mac Pro on a Table so you can work from above.
STEP 3. Take the 3090FE an apply some 3m Clear Transparent Plastic tape to the Back so the Cooler Body doesn´t get scratched when you Put it in.
STEP 4. Bend the Fan Bezel Plastic with your hands dont use to much force it will bent the 3mm needed just so yo can Plug the GPU in its PCI slot .
STEP 5. Leave the LEFT PCI Holder out of the Case.

After 7 Hours of Benchmarks, Gaming Test on Win10 i can says this GPU is fantastic, and Super Silent under FULL LOAD.

I Overclocked the CARD to 400WATT > CHIP + 124mhz >GDDR6x RAM to 600MHz and Power Limit MAX +14%.
both Fans on AUTO.

Full Load TEMP are around >65 to 68 Celsius and this is awesome. compared to RTX2080ti FE
Full Load TEMP of the litle XEON CPU is max 42 celsius )

In Mac OSX the Card behaves Slient and idle is 29 Celsius, Sleep works just Fine.

My Bootcamp Boottime is very Fast compared to the RTX2080Ti , after Power On it takes just 9 Seconds to Boot up Win 10 (Build 2004).

I use a LG OLED C9 2019 Display for Windows.

HDMI 2.1 Setting in Nvidia System Panel to PC Input 4k@120Hz 4.4.4 FULL , with Gsynch OFF ( for now have to wait for LG New Firmware )

.

Take a look at my Fotos and have fun Trying to get a 3090FE.

So what's supporting the card weight?

So what's supporting the card weight?

On the right side the gpu is hold by the Thumbscrews, and on the Left SIDE = basically the GPU is STUCK , it cant move
so NO SAG at all.

you can see the 3m Tape at the end of the GPU , this 3m Stuff is also very Sticky it is a thicker Tape 1mm

Could you please bench Flight simulator in 4K Ultra ?

very interesting...Now waiting for the 3080Ti or Super 20GB because I need two of them.
The 3000 series is perfect for rendering.
Unfortunately we haven't any decent 3d renderer engine running on MacOS using Cuda then I use bootcamp. Apple with its Metal and Arm chips thinks it can do everything for pro users next year.

I cancelled my order. Ordered on first day but it keeps getting delayed. I don’t think the Adobe apps are making full use of the 2080 anyway even the ones with CUDA rendering. Maybe by the time the 4080 comes out Adobe will use more GPU and less CPU.

Hoping that Adobe will start making quality software is like hoping that Apple will support Nvidia GPUs. Ain’t gonna happen.

The quality is there and all their features are industry leading, on Windows its fine but they have to support 10 year old computers so rewriting their apps completely is impossible or Herculean. The macOS version though is in a sad state.

Most of their Mac apps still use OpenGL based Mercury for viewport and took performance. Metal isn’t quite there yet after 5 years of promises. Maybe they will be forced to make changes by Apple Silicon. But I think at first we will be running emulated versions and native versions will come out around the time that the most powerful Macs transition.
