Can someone tell me if they know whether the device protection purchased through Google includes a battery replacement if battery life starts to get bad?

I got my pre-order in of the black and white Pixel 2. Neither are for me.

I joined the waitlist for the Google Home Max -- were these available for pre-order today???

I'm going to just say it, I think the Pixel 2 XL is pretty ugly.

The regular Pixel 2's front bezels are obviously no better, but they're not trying to go more bezel-less.

The Pixel 2XL tries to go for the bezel-less look but because of the front firing speakers (which is cool) it not only doesn't achieve it, it's oddly noticeable how badly it fails to. It's still less bezels and more screen, and that is good, but there's something just a little off or odd about the design. Like bezel-less + front firing dual speakers shouldn't co-exist.

And those side-borders cannot be unseen.

Just my two cents.

You're not wrong but it seems to fit in with their design aesthetic, such as it is. The first Pixels were kinda awkward looking too.

Personally, I don't love or hate the design. It's just there.

I hadn't noticed the large side-borders until you pointed them out in this post. Definitely can't be unseen now, thanks! Overall, I still like the new phones and with the 3-years of updates, I think it's a solid product. That said, I won't be purchasing one because I don't need it and I don't feel like I want one.

You are not getting iPhone X?
No. I made a commitment to donate to the hurricane relief effort instead of replacing my iPhone 7 Plus. The original plan was my husband wanted us to get matching IPhone X's. I bowed out of that and my other interest in the IPhone 8 Plus. I can easily still afford to donate even if we get this Pixel but it was the principle of not replacing a perfectly good iPhone with a new one just for the sake of having a new iPhone that went into the decision as well.

I actually was trying to process the trade in offer to bring down the price of the Pixel but that feature seemed to bork what I was doing and I could not get anywhere with it. I was going to trade in my S7 Edge.

My husband were just very curious to see what pure Android is like. I tried last year but a feral cat needed care and the vet bill was a whopper so I canceled the Pixel preorder I had back then. Sadly, the cat died anyway but the vet bills still had to get paid. I still managed to get an HTC 10 on great discount for a non-Samsung perspective on Android. It was really enjoyable but Sense UI definitely is not pure Android. Lol.

We are going to cancel the black Pixel once we make sure nothing is borked on either of our two orders.

We want to get that Pixel Book for the family but will wait on reviews.

The Verge:

The Verge's coverage of the entire Google suite of products is here: https://www.theverge.com/2017/10/4/...interview-new-google-hardware-vision-htc-deal

Honestly, a great showing from Google. A lot more new products than I thought. Did not see the Max coming at all (not a single rumor, right?). The real-time Google translate earphones were impressive. Google's AI was impressive.

Heck, even the Pixel 2 ended up being pretty impressive. I did not expect a 98 DXO score nor the dual-pixel system to mimic dual-cameras. As I've said before, the camera is a big part of deciding my daily driver.

It's such a damn shame about the Pixel 2 design, but at the same time, seeing what's happening with Apple and the industry as a whole, it really looks like these OEMS have no choice -- they simply cannot supply enough OLED panels for bezel-less designs! In that sense, you can almost forgive Google. It is what it is. Supply is what supply is.

And a shame about the lack of wireless charging. What is the IP water rating?

It reminds me of the S8 Active I saw at Best Buy. It's not going to win any beauty contests. That's why I wanted to go all out funky and get the ridiculous looking black and white one with the orange or red button. If you're going to look awkward, make a statement with it. Mantra of my life!

However, my husband may hate me when he carries it around. But then he's less likely to get attached to it and more likely to say "It's all yours." Mwah ahaha!

I completely agree.
I really really don't like the curved screen corners. It looks just like an S8 Plus, which is a phone I am not a fan of at all.
I was hoping for more a Note design.

I think as it stands, I would probably opt for the smaller one (never thought I'd hear myself say that), but that is a little too small for my tastes and there's really no excuse for the bezels when the XL doesn't have them.

Waterproof rating: IP67. Splashproof but not really waterproof. Shame.

Go glass next year, Google, please + wireless charging.

On their own, yeah, 5 hours wouldn’t be impressive. I said the same thing about AirPods before I owned them. Having an extra 24 hours of charge in the case though makes that 5 hrs in truth a whole lot longer.

But I have a pair of good earbuds that cost me 100$. They last 10-12hrs. Why should I spend more for less battery life?

If you listen to music continuously for over 5 hours, yeah, they’re not for you. I don’t, so as soon as I take my AirPods out, they’re recharging. In 15-30 min back in the case, they’re usually topped off again. So for my use case 29 hours of battery life is better than 10-12 hours for your model. I plug my AirPod case in probably once a week to recharge.

It’s all relative to individual use.

I’m confused by waterproof ratings. The iPhones are also IP67, which they claim is safe submerged up to 1 meter for 30 mins. That certainly sounds like more than splash proof.

Why can I find nothing on the Google Home Max pre-order? When is it, does anyone know?

Really? So I can still wash my phone with IP67? Genuine question because I love washing my S8 whenever I need to.

I do it with mine...straight under the faucet. :D

And IIRC, Google claimed the Max will be available in December. I’m guessing that means when preorders are available. Looks like it’s going head to head with the HomePod.

I agree i think for a phone without a home button they have kind of wasted time on the device. Still surprised they don’t have wireless charging.

Thank you. I thought I heard it was up for pre-order today, but might have confused it with another product.

I'm really interested in the Home Max, but I'm not even sure why!

Yep, iPhone 7 and 8 are ip67 while S8 and Note 8 are ip68, the difference is the depth of water. 7 for 1 meter and 8 for 1.5 meters. So it sounds like the Pixel is similar to iPhones where you can briefly dunk or rinse with water. Just important to note that most manufacturers won't cover a phone if it stops working due to water intrusion. So the ratings aren't quite a warranty if they do get wet on the internals.

While a 7 rating guarantees protection for up to 30 minutes. The Samsung Galaxy S8 received an 8 certification for water resistance, meaning it can be underwater for 30 minutes at depths of up to 1.5m.

Mostly podcasts, but yeah. I wasn't trying to say nobody should buy it, just that I wish it was better. Even 8 with a quick charge pack would be doable.
