Received my 20" iMac three days ago, was up and running in 15 minutes. I've cluttered it (in my usual fashion) with stuff like Cyberduck, Nvu, Firefox, Thunderbird, Gimp...had to try to replace all the Windows stuff I can't afford to buy replacements for yet :) . All in all I am pleased but am feeling lost at times. The last Mac I used was OS 7 or something some years ago...I am going out today to look for the "missing manual"...PS, I got the trial version of Parallels and it just locks this puppy up solid whenever I create (using the default wizard settings) a VM and try to launch it to install XP (remember those apps I can't afford to buy?)...Is Parallels having trouble on Core 2 Duo's?

Phil

I felt lost for about a week when I got my first Mac in many years 6 months ago. But after a week it becomes pretty familiar and you start to feel awkward in windows instead.

The current public release of Parallels has problems with both the C2D iMac and the Mac Pro, but you can download the latest release candidate here. I am using it on my 20" iMac C2D to run XP Home and it is rock solid.

Welcome officially to the team... and prepare to have a totally great time with your new Mac. As for the price... I do not know how it could have been any less expensive ... I bought mine from the apple store also... I think the only rip for me was the $33. because everyone got theirs at about the same time... enjoy

thank you

thank you for the welcome and I agree the 33$ was a rip off I think it came MAYBE a day early and I dont know how it could have payed "way to much" as someone stated I searched and as of now even the memory was not cheaper anywhere else and I really wanted to load up on the memory

Mine came yesterday, can't believe how quick it is compared to my old iMac G5 2.1GHz!! Everything is sooo much snappier, the only downer I've noticed it the hard drive seems to be louder, but that could be just because the fans are so damn quiet on this C2D iMac! :)

Overall I've very happy. I opted for the 20" with a 2.33GHz C2D and the 256Mb Vram upgrade, I also got a Wireless Keyboard and Mighty Mouse because I thought the wires in my last iMac spoilt the look a bit, made it cluttered!

I just got my "little" 20" with the extra video ram. I had to get someone else to turn it on as I feared a bad pixel and couldn't handle seeing that when it first came to life. But alas, screen is perfect. Only complaint is the new balance on my credit card.

I'm a switcher and mine just arrived today:cool:

24" iMac
2.33Ghz, 2Gb
500Gb HDD
7600GT

Need to shift the PC first before I can start to explore OSX athough I'll need to use Bootcamp for a couple of things that won't work with OSX

Got my first ever Mac today, 24" iMac:
24" iMac
2.16Ghz
2Gb RAM
500Gb HDD
7600GT

I'll get some pics up soon, right now I'm painting my walls and laying new floor in my computer room so it's a bit too messy :p

oh and I LOVE this freaking beast, worth every penny so far

Got mine on Friday. Very nice machine. VERY fast. 17" 2ghz, stock but with the BT Keyboard and mouse. Though I find the mouse a little awkward with the right/left button clicks, and even on full speed the mouse is still too slow for me. Absolutely love it.

You have the exact set up that I am interested in. Looks sweet. I thought I wanted the wireless keyboard and mouse for the same sort of reasons you mentioned, but I'm just not sure. May go wired first, and maybe switch to wireless later. Still saving money up, so I have plenty of time to change my mind over and over again. Anyway, enjoy your new toy.

One quick question on the wireless KB & mouse. My computer desk has a shelf for the keyboard and mouse that slides under the desktop so it is a few inches below the desktop. Is that likely to be a problem? Don't know if the keyboard and mouse need line of sight to the monitor or not.

I don't have BT keyboard and mouse, but considering it's BT, you shouldn't need a direct line of sight.

Keep in mind it's much more expensive to buy a separate BT keyboard and mouse at retail than it is if you order it with your Mac at apple.com.

Please those of you owning a C2D imac go to this site and tell me if the screen flashes with that background when you scroll down

I don't see any flashing. I just got a 20" Imac Core 2 Duo at my new job I started yesterday. It's a pretty sweet machine considering I have a dual g5 and powerbook at home (both of which I love).

Though I am still not crazy about the design of these iMacs. I love the white color casing and the screen (bright as hell - kinda like my cinema display). But I don't dig the bottom of the casing where the apple logo is. Am I the only one who doesn't think this looks cool?

Drag the window to the full size of the screen then look at the black and white striped background it makes the screen flash when you scroll the page, anyway i did prefer the design of the imac G4, but the new design is not bad or unattractive by any means

Ordered an iMac C2D today, I am very happy that I'm finally on this boat. I thought about the 24" but I thought it would be way to big for me. It would be hard to explain being a student afterwards. ;)

It's a iMac 20", 500 GB drive, 256 VRAM and 2.33 GHz processor. This beast is screaming like a rock, I predict. Sad the graphical card from the 24" is not available for the 20", but maybe Apple feared otherwise nobody would buy a 24". :D

The wait begins....

Still not getting it. But I think I know what you are talking about. Stuff like that happens occasionally and it has nothing to do with the monitor or the computer. It is on par with optical illusions that that trick the eye into thinking things are moving or flashing etc. The design of the background is the cause, I think.

it doesn't do it on my CRT, unless it's all psycholigical and i think it will only happen on LCD's, anyway i'll do a movie of it, and post it on my web-site for you to see, in the mean time could other's check, the actual screen it's-self doesn't flash, just where the web-site background is, i'll check if it does it on my ibook, anyway thanks for the help and putting my mind at rest.;)
