I got my 24" iMac today and thought I would write a little.

2Gb, 2.16GHz, 7600GT - all else standard.

Upgrading from a 17" 1.6Ghz G5 iMac, which I sold a few weeks ago. Have been using my 1GHz TiBook in the meantime.

This is the first Apple machine I have owned from new. Previous machines have been refurbs or from eBay.

Packing was slimmer and more robust than my 17" iMac.

The powercord which plugs in flush with the back of the machine and does not have a little plastic ring loose on it was nice to see - always annoyed me on the G5.

I am not using the included Might Mouse - it would not right-click whilst I had my left finger resting on the case. Besides, I prefer the big scroll wheel of my Intellimouse as well as the shape of it in my hand.

Copied over my music, photos, documents and archives by Firewire. Didn't use the Migration Assistant as I wanted to get all my applications "new" and in Universal format. Also copied over my Adium, Mail data, Safari bookmarks, my keychains etc manually.

Copied over my games then patched to UB, rather than reinstall.

Set up my mouse/shortcuts/prefs/add-ons. Shame that WindowShadeX is not fully UB yet, since I paid for it ages ago.

At this point, my housemate came into my room and collapsed on the floor laughing at the sheer size of it then said she was jealous. I went to make some lunch and came back to find she had taken about 8324728347 pictures of herself in Photobooth.

We then played around with the remote control, which is the first time I have ever used it. Really very cool indeed, especially the little effects and noises.

I then started to install Bootcamp and XP, at which point my housemate got very bored and left. Took about 35 minutes in total, with no problems. Didn't really do anything with XP though. Just wanted to install it in case I need it. I will probably play MapleStory or something at some point.

I'm very impressed with the machine. A definite improvement in speed and functionality over the G5 and G4 machines I had/have. The screen is simply brilliant. I used iChat for voice and video for the first time and it was like being on the phone. UT2004 at max resolution with everything set to Highest just flew around too fast for me to even play properly - a bit too used to slowing myself down. WoW was amazing too - around 60FPS with everything turned on. Looking forward to levelling my hunter a bit after work.

The internal speakers are very good also - I have external Yamaha ones but am not using them any more.

Despite the size, the machine feels light yet sturdy.

So far I am extremely happy with the purchase and would recommend the 24" iMac to anyone who is considering it.

I like how it has a built in magnet that lets you "stick" it to the lower righthand edge of the chin. Cool.

Make sure the little green iSight light is not turned on!

I had to come to work this evening too and am quite excited about getting back home and fiddling around some more.

To finally have a computer which is currently at the top end of the range for a change is pretty fun! About bloody time.

i check my tracking and nothing has happened in the last 24 hrs. I'm getting concerned. Also i ordered applecare and my order summery says complete, when i haven't received anything...

Exact same situation as mine: Don't worry.

I ordered on 9/11 and the initial estimate was 9/25.
That was updated on 9/14 to: shipped on 9/13, delivery estimate on 9/20
Tracking through FedEx showed it left CA on 9/14, then there were no updates until it arrived on 9/20 as scheduled.

I'm glad you mentioned the applecare, mine was "complete" as well, but I never received that red and white box...

Is the magnet in the remote or in the iMac case? (Or both?)

Nagromme- The Magnet is inside the case. Not on the remote. I wish it was cause I really want to stick my remote to a few things at times.

But Yeah.

I got mine on Wednesday-
24", 2.16, 500, 2GB, the NVIdia 7600. Im liking it.

I've practically been glued to the screen ever since it came.

But so Far no complaints. Im planning on putting SUSE on it just so i can play with some of the native 64 stuffs. Should be a good time.

Sad thing is I dont think Ill actually ever max this thing out at all. I know I havnt even touched the capacity of the Graphics card or the Ram.

Well it should be nice to have around anyways. It was a great addition to my MacBook.

I got my iMac a few days ago - the day after I received the e-mail that it had shipped. It was 8 days earlier than first expected! And like I said earlier, it's my first Mac.

I'm loving it but I'm finding OS X a bit strange. Like in the Finder - when I select an item or multiple items, I can't press delete to send them to the trash. Is that normal? Is there another key combination to do that? Also, I've noticed the spinning beachball a lot - at first it was when I was using Dreamweaver and Fireworks, and since they're running under Rosetta I didn't think twice, but even after a fresh boot I sometimes see it - even opening system preferences sometimes makes it show for a moment or two. Is that normal? I wasn't really expecting that with a 2.33GHz Core 2 Duo with 2GB of RAM...

The one thing I worried about most was Studio 8 - I use Dreamweaver and Fireworks everyday to build websites and I'm starting to learn Flash, so after seeing the performance of Photoshop at MacWorld, I was a bit worried because that type of performance simply wouldn't of cut it for me. I didn't need to worry though; both Dreamweaver and Fireworks perform extremely well - both take about 5-7 seconds to launch and (other than the beachball which shows every now and then), the general performance is very nice. Most importantly, it's obviously a lot faster than my 1.2Ghz PC - so I'm very happy about that. I haven't installed Flash yet but I'll let you know how it performs if anyone's interested.

Ordered 14 Sept
Arrived today 22 Sept.
24" with everything but processor and HDD upgrade. Pretty fast for a new release downunder.

Try Command-Delete, it should do what you want. NB: Command is the key with the Apple logo on.

Er, I wouldn't expect it that much on your computer, if it lasts long. (If it's half a second once in a while, then it can be normal, due mostly to accesses to the HDDs).

If it's really bad, it could be faulty ram, or some other technical reasons. Maybe someone else here has a better explanation for you...

Agreed--beachballs should be very rare with 2GB RAM (except maybe for Rosetta--I don't have experience with Rosetta yet).

Got mine on Tuesday. Runs like a dream. Only complaint are a few stuck pixels (only one can actually be noticed from a few feet back on a black screen). Otherwise I couldn't ask for better!! :D

On a new system, do you think the extra "beachballing" is due to system indexing and should improve over a short time?? Just a thought. Otherwise, keep half an eye on the condition of your harddrive in case it is having read/write problems...

Fall3n, what is Apple's policy on pixel problems? Anyone know where to get this info? On a system that tends to highlight the beauty of the monitor, I would be disappointed; that is unless they are not noticeable unless on minute inspection.....

They aren't very noticable, I had to do the make your screen black and look for some test to see if there were any. Only one is actually noticable and only really when you look for it (except if there is a black background). Nonetheless it kind of sucks. I havn't bothered calling Apple because I'm not really THAT worried about it and I think they require at least several pixels to be dead to actually replace the screen, so I'm not quite sure how many stuck pixels you would have for them to do something about it. One poster here said it was a case by case scenario, but I don't really want to bother with apple support and all that just to find out they won't accept my machine.....plus I'm in love with it right now and the last thing I want to do is to have to ship it off somewhere. haha. I'll wait a few months and see what happens.

I don't blame you. If it isn't so bad, I'd likely keep it too. It may not be worth the stress over something so minor. As long as I didn't have a red pixel in the middle of all my screens. Those 24" iMacs are amazing!

Oh great....

I order my 24" iMac Sept 18th, and it was suppose to shipped within 4 days (today) and delivered to me no later then Oct. 2nd.
Just checked on Apples site (been doing it at least once every 30 min or so today) and now they have updated it to:
Estimated Shipped By - Oct 13, 2006
Estimated Delivered By - Oct 24, 2006

So I have to wait another month for my iMac? Anybody seen the same time delay on their orders or been there before? I just wanna know I'm not the only one... :(
I recived both my iPod and MacBook on the estimated delivery dates, although TNT screwed up the MacBook delivery a bit since the computer was in Sweden for almost a week before it reached my house...

Order details:

iMAC 24
2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
NVIDIA GEFORCE 7600 GT w/256
500GB Serial ATA Drive
SuperDrive 8X (DVDR-DL/CD-RW)
Kyd&Mse+OSX(Z)-S
Country Kit-SWE

Damnit, this sucks - I thought I was gonna get my Mac soon...
(sorry for the rant)

Maybe there really is an update happening this week at Photokina? I would turn my despair into hope for that happening! Maybe, just maybe they are giving you that window to change things in the event of an update.... ???? Although, I highly doubt they are changing anything on the 24" iMac that already has the Core 2 and already has a kick butt display...! Think the Country Kit is reason for delay? Would be nice if they told you why...

Definatly weird. Maybe it's your location? I'm in Vancouver, BC and I orderd on the 9th and got it on the 19th. It flew all over the world though. Shanghai to Alaska then to Tennessee then to Ontario then to Vancouver.

Yeah, it might be because I'm in Sweden, since it ships from Shanghai then to Amsterdam and then Sweden - but then again the MacBook came the same way and was on time (ordered about a week or two after release). And the country kit... I mean it will be English OSX (all manuals should be in English etc.) so the only part of the package that will be Swedish is the keyboard, and that's the same keyboard that they have used for a long time so I doubt the will have any problems finding that quickly.

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait...

I got my 20" iMac today (my first mac :D)
