I don't join Forums because, frankly, the information can be overwhelming. That said, I have two Mac questions.
based on the fact that I am planning to buy a new MacBook Pro or Pro Air.

1. It was suggested to me that I wait until April to purchase the latest update. Is that correct?
2. What does the Mac Pro do that the Air doesn't? I'm not a graphic designer. I do need the video and recording capabilities as well as the standard applications. Importantly, I need the software which allows me to generate my "conquer cancer with healthier approaches" presentations.

Hello! New member here. I've been lurking on this forum for 2 years before finally registering and posting comments for the first time. This community's discussions have been integral in me making 'the switch' and buying my first Mac. Looking forward to the future.

Hi, I'm Peter. All-time Mac-user since my first Quadra... I've been reading (over and over) on a thread on "el capitan on unsupported macs" as I'm in the process of installing the captain on a 2007 2.1 MBP. (Posted some comment and some question there) My first "hack" was on a 2006 1.1 MacPro; a lot easier. I just think it's a good thing to hack the programmed obsolesence and get some more juice out of these wonderful old machines. Really glad I found some people alike on this site! Cheers you all!

GREETINGS PEACE BE UPON ALL

Hello! Long time listener first time caller!

I first heard of this site way back when I was hoping and praying for a PowerBook G5! I half remember an old Mac secrets site… Apple insider maybe and MacTeens… back when I was about to head off to university and was looking to buy the best machine possible. I know that’s boring because I really am. I’m a simple person. I own a few businesses… nothing flashy of course just local offices and a creative studio. I live by a few simple rules, I try not to get in any ones way, I love old computers and the games on them, I’m into ice hockey and basketball, I’m well travelled for no other reason than I like to keep in motion.
On the hate side of things well I try not to get bogged down in them. I don’t like liars and cheats. I don’t like people that harm others or animals. I donate to and help out charities that help abused people for example. My sister is lucky enough to help out with charities all day.

My favorite computer games are Doom 1 and 2, anything from Apogee or early 3D Realms and Bungee. Plus anything Nintendo! I bought my kids a Nintendo Switch recently and I spent so much time playing it I had to get one for myself!

I don’t usually like making posts about myself but I’m stuck on a train for the next hour and I forgot the aforementioned Switch!

Be seein ya!

New to MacRumors but not to Macs or Apple products. The first Apple product I purchased was an Apple IIGS and I've used Macs since the Mac Plus and 512. Looking forward to an interesting time here.

HI guys , Juan Here from South Africa, we dont have many apple stores in RSA especially in the smaller cites ( where i live ) so its hard to find support on technical issues as we have apple tv, ( traded it for dstv) and i phones and a mac ( about a year old and my first non window desktop ) on which i do my work . I too have been in and out as a guest getting answers to most of my issues , i thought why not join. Maybe i can learn more and use this knowledge to help others in my town .

I first saw Mac for 15 years. Now I have a Macbook Air. I'm not a beginner in linux either.

Hi. I'm Michael Sullivan and am from Toronto. I do freelance graphic design works and am enjoying the job. :)

Hello everyone,

Greetings from Los Angeles!

I'm new to this forum, and relatively new to Macs (but not Apple iDevices - been using them since 2010). My signature shows all the Apple products I currently own. I recently purchased a very slightly used MacBook Pro 15" retina (2014), with a 500GB SSD and 16GB RAM. I installed Windows 7 via Boot Camp, so now I can dual-boot (I have Amateur Radio programming software that will only run on Windows - if there are any Hams here, my call sign is W9APX).

My earliest introduction to an Apple product was in High School, in 1983. We had a computer lab with Radio Shack TRS-80s and also Apple IIc computers.

Just joined this Forum and would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year!

Up until now I have been a member of Mac Forums, which, as of yesterday, has been closed down by the new owners:eek:. So now I am looking forward to participating in this Forum

I live in the UK and have been a Mac user for about 3 years and have an iMac 21.5", 3.1GHz Core i7, 16GB RAM running High Sierra. An iPad Air. An iPhone 5S and an iPod nano. I also have a PC running Windows 10.

Hi - I am from Australia - I am learning to be friends with my Mac. I am a farmer and artist. I have had my Mac for a bit over a year and need to complete the system with printer and good backup equipment. Many things I don't understand. But I still love the Mac and the iPhone, which are "talking" with each other. iCloud issues need sorting out too.... so HI TO EVERYONE

I am new to this forum. Going to try to place the battery on the iPhone 6 next week. Got an appointment we will see what happens. Slow down is very noticeable and battery is failing.

Apple user since 2013 (MBP retina). Long time lurker, I'm joining because I'm having issues with my "new" mac pro 5.1 and I've found lots of informations here.

I love apple gear, but it sometimes frustrates me when I run into its many limitations.

I started my personal computer experience with a commodore 64. Since then i have flirted with many devices, windows, macintosh, mac, linux, palm pilot, Ipaq etc. Even a newton. I loved windows XP and MS Office.

I currently have 12inch macbook, 2GB time capsule/router, mini ipad 4, iphone 6, watch series 3. Thinking of getting the iphone x, only partly because my ip6 is being throttled (1400mhz nominal, actual declines during the day to 600). Partly (mostly?) because it looks great and I want one.

I have dipped into these forums as guest from time to time and generally found them useful.

I live in sunny Adelaide, south australia.
Oh, and i am a big fan of lotr and harry potter, hence username.

I am new this evening. I started looking at this site a few weeks ago. I do have a question regarding some software. Prior to purchasing my iMac 21.5 inch a week ago, I was using Paperport 12 document management software on my IBM based machine. Paperport 12 is not compatible with the MacOS. Does anyone know of a similar product to Paperport that has been written for MacOS?
