What’s this jelly scrolling and upside down screens all about?

https://www.xda-developers.com/conf...ay-upside-down-likely-reason-jelly-scrolling/

Seems the dual camera has caused a significant compromise according to that article.

The jelly scrolling is something I haven't personally come across on mine. It seems as though YMMV as to how bad an impact it has on scrolling depending on where it pops up. The video embedded in that link shows something that looks like an intended effect that doesn't distort anything. However I've read instances where it can distort videos.

The upside down display...no idea. The article even states they don't know why or what effect it would have so it would be unfair to draw any conclusions pro or con on this piece.

I do think the tech media has been a little weird with OP with this release. They almost seem as though they're out to get them for some imagined transgression. I think people were p*ssed about the price and/or the lack of features they feel the phone is missing. I don't know but there seems to be an overly hostile response to literally everything OP is doing from some corners. And I'm saying this as someone who is experiencing a flaw with his device that will probably lead me to returning it.

Well, to be fair, OP has had plenty of transgressions of their own doing in the past--the ridiculous invite system, a sexist selfie contest to win an invite/device, labeling themselves a flagship killer, releasing the 3T just months after the 3, and cheating on their latest benchmarks. There also the fact that their last few phones have beared a striking resemblance to another OEM's design (the 3/3T and the HTC One M9 and the 5 being an iPhone doppelganger). They've also made no update/security update commitments and don't exactly have a history of keeping their devices up to date (ie the OP2 got a single update to Android 6 from 5.xx--just one update )

OP has done plenty to shoot themselves in their own foot and the media may just be more than happy to hold them accountable for that nonsense, fair or not. If I was in the market for an Android phone, considering how OP 'supports' their phone, I wouldn't look twice at the OP5, regardless how good the device may be. Just my personal opinion--how a company supports their product after the sale means quite a lot when I decide to spend my money.

I take issue with a few items here. Their last few phones resembling other phones is pretty much the industry standard. These are slabs and there's only so much you can do with the form factor. In my previous post I stated straight up people are trying waaaaay too hard insisting the OP5 looks like the iPHone 7 Plus. It most certainly does not. I have both and honestly if you can't tell them apart I'd suggest that person has suffered a head injury. As for the invite system, that was probably due to making a marketing event out of limited stock. Google used to roll out its newest features or products via an invite system too. I agree that the 3T was a shady thing to do so close to the 3, though. Labeling themselves a flagship killer? Seriously? That's a negative? That's just marketing. That's not a serious complaint, not even a little. (How many times has the phrase "iPhone killer" been used in the last ten years?)

Sorry, I don't agree that they've been some aggressively shady company. I think Sammy's behavior with the Note 7 is the single most egregious things one of these OEM's have attempted. Yet everyone likes the S8's, so all is forgiven. Which is to my point: I think most of the angst is over people simply not liking this phone and projecting all of this nonsense on to the company. Oh, they're slow with updates? Again: industry standard. Android OEM's suck on ice with updates, with a couple of exceptions.

On that note, I shall be returning mine. I don't see a fix to the wifi and I'm not going to play Russian Roulette with an exchange since I can't just walk into a store and take care of it.

Oh, incidentally, you can certainly file this into your "OP is shady" folder: they won't take back accessories unless they've been unopened. THAT is straight up BS. Good thing I didn't open mine. They even wanted pics of them in their sealed boxes before issuing the RMA!

Agree to disagree then. Comparatively to most other companies, their decisions have, IMO, been carelessly stupid (the selfie contest) to downright shady (manipulation of benchmarks). I understand how in hand, the OP5 is more noticably different from the iPhone but in pics, especially when viewing from the back, it mimics the iPhone more than just about any other phone has ever copied a phone. One of the Android podcasts I regularly listen to said he had someone come up to him when he was testing the OP5, questioning why he switched from Android to an iPhone. The G8s, the LG G6, the recent generation of Motos are all quite unique looking--you're not going to make a similar mistake with those.

My flagship killer comment is only in regards to their presumption of being one your observation that the media are giving them a hard time. Don't live up to that standard and be prepared for some media flack. Updates---again, don't claim that you're going to offer them in any sort of timely fashion and then not live up to it. The industry sucking at it doesn't excuse the behavior.

Regardless, media criticism in general should be taken with a grain of salt. Like I said, OP hasn't done anything to draw me in as a consumer and I don't think my perception of the company is entirely unique.

I know this reply wasn't to me.....
I like OPO as a young company. They are brash and over hype everything in efforts to get more publicity. But in doing so they set themselves up for a lot of scrutiny as well. How they respond to the media i think says allot about them to be honest. They have denied just about any problems that have come up with their phones. then later issue software updates to take care of most of them.
The latest jelly scrolling an possible upside down display is a big one. They really should just get in front of it and not deny it or say it was by design
I think they copied the iphone design too myself. It is obviously a design decision they made on purpose. The OPO 3t would not be mistaken for an iphone.
Then for Samsung....they spent billions recalling the Note 7. Most of it on their own accord. They made a huge mistake and owned up to it the whole time at a great expense to their reputation and bottom line. But imho they made it up to their customers throughout the whole debacle.

I think OPO has made a mistake with the OPO 5 design decision. They need to come out and be upfront with everyone about the latest issue. Because they stand to lose face in a very crowded Android market space that they might not be able to recover from.

I don't think they copied the iPhone. I think Apple made a very basic and boring design decision and any company that does likewise will produce a generic slab too. The OP5 does not look like an iPhone other than the dual cameras on the top left of the back, and even then there is no camera hump.

Samsung did not own up to the Note 7 until well after it was beyond reason to lie about it. Again, I think the positive feelings towards Samsung at this date are mostly due to people liking the S8's.

No good deed goes unpunished: here I am defending OP, and I got a message from their CS that the pic I sent of the accessories isn't good enough. They want more pics showing them as unopened. I cannot imagine who in their company decided on this policy because even if I *loved* the next phone there is zero shot I would ever buy from them again based on this kind of customer service.

They will tell you they are just small tiny company so anything is not their fault.

Quick update on returning my phone:

They issued the RMA, their 3rd party service center emailed me instructions to ship back. One of the instructions: don't use styrofoam peanuts or popcorn in the return package.

THE PHONE WAS SHIPPED TOE IN A PACKAGE CONTAINING STYROFOAM PEANUTS.

Oh OnePlus.

I think I might stay with T-Mobile for now though. Their data speeds kill VZW, and phone calls have been perfect at work and home thus far. VZW's customer service also sucks pretty hard right now.

So maybe this adventure wasn't completely without a win.

I'm trying to come up with a reason why they wouldn't want peanuts or popcorn?

I *think* styrofoam can stick to electronics sometimes, but I would assume only if they're turned on. But I dunno why that would be an issue regardless unless they're afraid of tiny pieces being embedded in it or something.

Either way, maybe don't ship the device out in a manner inconsistent with your own return policy?

Gotcha. But isn't the phone in the original manufacturer's box when returning it? Or we talking about just the phone in a mailing box?

Well, originally I was going to send it back in the exact box with the exact shipping materials they sent to me in. Now I'll just rewrap in bubble instead because I don't want to give them any daylight on denying the return. I'm now of the opinion that the other guys in the thread are right, OP is a shady af company looking to cut corners wherever they can.

Reviews say it’s keeping about 20 apps in RAM so I don’t see there being any issues.

I really wanna get this phone but the so so camera is putting me off.

How have we gone this long with no MRU doggie/beach pics?!?!? Or did I miss them somewhere in the thread.

Now I know that the S7E isn't a slouch, but holy **** did it feel like one yesterday when I tried it after a while of getting used to OnePlus 5's snappiness. It was like the Nexus 5X at its worst, multiplied by 2.

So while the OP5 isn't without its problems, it's a beast when it comes to snappiness.

The phone is insanely fast and fluid. If I wasn't going to keep it I'm happy I made the deciding quickly. Didn't want to get used to that kind of speed. :O
