The whole idea of smashing the phone rather than maybe donating to goodwill etc.. is utterly pathetic imho.

Yeap, just like their invite system to get a phone but the pricing is way too hard to pass up. Can't wait to see review from consumers down the road.

Why not sign up and see if you get lucky? I'd take one for a dollar. :D Other than that, I'd wait and see if they are legit or not.

Yeap, thats what I did. I have a spare S3 that my dad is using but will upgrade him to a Note 2, while my mom gets my Note 3 so everyone stays happy.

$50 to go from 16gb to 64gb is fantastic. $200 with Apple. I think this phone starts to revolutionise the smart phone industry - the days of Samsung and Apple charging $600+ for a phone are numbered.

Given Apple are looking for a $100 raise on carriers for iPhone 6 - those days are still aplenty.

Likewise a rebadged Oppo Find 7a is unlikely to revolutionise anything unless they begin spending the same kind of money on Research & Development, marketing and of course logistics. Until normal carriers are offering the OnePlusOne and until people can see them in person rather than on a China based online store, the revolution you speak about will have more akin to a fart in a storm .. You smell it, but with so much else going on - you soon forget.

OPO forums alone have shown If anything the screaming supporters can quickly turn into the bickering detractors....

I'm heading to the Apple store to buy an iPhone to smash. Do you guys think it will be a good idea to smash it right away or should I see if I get picked first? :D:D

Like Forrest said, stupid is as stupid does. :D:D

Looks nice and the price is real good but ill wait till it's readily available. Im not smashing my phone for anybody for one of these. If i can buy one down the road, great. If not, oh well. I dont need another phone. My Nexus 5 works just fine.

I've been watching this project closely. Like it or hate it, the bizarre marketing approach they're taking has certainly generated attention. The phone seems sound yet only time will tell.

If I were looking for a great Android phone at an excellent price, I'd spend the extra $50 and buy a Nexus 5. It's what I use daily, and I currently own every new flagship available. It's why I maintain four lines... Just for the fun of trying out the latest smartphones.

Once I've tried them for a minimum of a month, I have a very good first hand opinion of each. I also root, ROM and modify them to my liking, hence the four phone lines come in handy.

Thing is spend that $50more on the nexus and you can at least be sure of decent warranty support, with such ridiculous distribution for the OPO and the fact it's operating online only and from China, how is that going to make hardware warranty repairs serviceable ... There's still so many questions OPO need to answer, questions that need proper answers not gimmicky promo stunts.

Agreed..... I will wait to see the first reviews. But I want to get my hands on one to see for myself...... Just because it is Cyanogen it's guanteed to get updates forever from Cyanogen. So software updates will not be an issue. But hardware warranty issues are unknown at this point.

I think they mentioned that warranties will be fulfilled in the countries they are claimed using their distribution warehouses.

That would make sense. I just want them to make things more transparent. I'm interested in the device (I've got quite a few token points racked up on their forum) but very frustrated by them too.

OPPO are OPO ...... We knew it was a rebadged Find 7a but that's not all they have in common.

According to Chinese media outlets, documents from China’s regulatory board show that OnePlus is actually a wholly owned subsidiary of Oppo. It probably shouldn’t be surprising, OnePlus was created by former Oppo executive Peter Lau. But OnePlus was allegedly created to break away from the established companies and become something “different.”

Now, it appears that Oppo is the primary stockholder in OnePlus, which would explain how they were able to set up distribution centers all around the world, seemingly out of nowhere. OnePlus has yet to respond to the allegations officially.

If true, why a company would be grooming a potential competitor is unclear.

We have reached out to OnePlus for an official comment.

It gets worse....

OPO are now banning peoples IP addresses from their forum if they post anything negative or conceived as negative. This includes people complaining that the invite system was stupid etc.. Some folks who posted questions about OPPO and OPO connection are getting their ip addresses banned to.

Basically if your not on their forum blowing hot smoke up their arses you are not wanted there....

---

Just discovered they closed a thread that I got lots of likes on. A thread that basically showed them how scammers are targeting OnePlusOne users, and links to a number of dodgy listings for the OPO. I had 85 likes and nothing but positive feedback, but clearly OPO doesn't like anyone raising concerns over their invite system leading to this black market and so the thread was closed and they took away all my like points...

Seriously this is a company we can trust...

They call themselves 'A Honest Company'.......

So basically confirming that they are indeed Oppo by another name by making Chinese censorship practices part of their "different" style... Brilliant :D

The masquerade / veil they are putting on annoys me... They could have and
likely do have a great product, so why all the pretence on so many levels, and why so much censorship.

It's a Chinese product so this shouldn't come as a surprise, no?
