WTF !!!!!!

Why is it reloading apps ??? It should in no way need to reload any of those with 6gb which must mean oxygen OS is typically OP buggy..

But listen to the end remark ... With a mixture of apps the ram management wasn't as impressive and they too suggest software at fault ...

Here's where it will get interesting. How long will it take OP to correct this software issue ?
The beautiful thing about Android and the OPO3 is it can be bootloader unlocked and you can flash any rom you want. I will bet this phone would fly with CM13 on it! :)

I read something about Android closing unnecessary apps in the background over time. Is this true? Maybe it's that?

So no matter the RAM Android will always close certain apps in the background when not needed.

I think I read ATT is finally pushing wifi calling to certain android phones. LG G4 is first on the list, but that is att branded. We shall see if they go for nexus

quick google shows ATT does not support volte on unbranded phones like nexus - afaik verizon does. ATT is such a *****

as more unlocked phones become gsm/cdma compatible, verizon is actually becoming more pro-user than ATT

Yes, I can confirm that VoLTE (and thus simultaneous voice/data) works on the 5x, 6p, and Moto X Pure Edition on Verizon. I had all 3 at one point. Worked well, actually.

Unfortunately, that is not the cause of the above. Yes, Android is good at garage collecting, etc.

But, with my Nexus 6p, I can't remember the last time I saw an app I needed, that was in the background, refresh. I can scroll 8 or 9 apps back (never have had a need to go further), pull up a chrome webpage or tapatalk forum, and not see a refresh. In terms of multitasking, it seems the 6p is the reigning champ.

The Galaxy S7, while better than the Galaxy s6, is more aggressive than the Nexus 6p, or even HTC 10 in killing background apps.

The above is way worse, to the point where it refreshes ever single app. I find it very, very surprising that no reviewer caught this. It obviously seems some type of bug present in the Oxygen OS software. I would bet a forthcoming update would fix it.

Yes, the Galaxy S6 was horrid in this area. One of the many reasons why I ditched the phone.

Yeah. Honesty, before the Nexus 6p, it didn't bother me. I was perfectly fine with the s6 and s7.

But once you see the usefulness of the "enhanced" multitasking on the 6p, its absence can be sorely apparent on other phones.

Now, the iPhone 6 plus (or iPad air 1) were absolutely dreadful in this area. Those were the only devices were the lack of ram really affected me. But now, after having used the 6p, I imagine other devices would bother me as well. It's actually a consideration for me now.

Yeah, strange that no review mentions it. And if anything, all the reviews I've seen/read say it's a champ at multi-tasking. Weird.

Like any launch device, bugs will be abound. The question is whether OnePlus will be any good at fixing it.

Yeah. Is the "poor multitasking" conclusion from one video? If so it's essential worthless, due to the sample size.

Maybe the phone was a lemon, or some weird bug had crept up that required a reboot.

Yeah. If it is a bug, it doesn't seem to be affecting many (if any) of the review units.

I haven't read every review that's out, of course, so can anyone point to a review that actually says it's having trouble wiht multi-tasking?

I already posted it ;)

He does say in that video though that with mixed apps (not just games) it closed a lot more often ...

Hopefully just software bugs and hopefully it will be fixed.

I'm wondering how many less intensive apps (without some games tossed in there) it would hold in RAM? I RARELY play games on my phone, but I do jump from app to app frequently, so I'm a little curious as to how it would perform there. I don't even think my 6s Plus is all that good keeping apps in RAM, so I'd assume the OP3 would probably still be solid for me.

The shocking part of that is the admission from Carl Pei

Furthermore, Carl Pei mentioned on twitter that “they have a different strategy for RAM management that benefits battery”, and said that parameters can be modified by those who disagree with their decision.

Why give users a device with 6gb and then make it peform like one with 3 ? if battery life which is only ok even with this 'optimisation' is in place, what is it going to be like without it? I think here we have an example of spec whoring actually hindering user experience rather than benefiting it ...

You pay $399 for a brand new phone out of the box you wipe out the ROM to install software not made by the manufacturer. Makes perfect sense!

This "ram" issue isn't going to get fixed - it's the same as the Samsung GS6 series and that one was fixed with the GS7!

yes it does :) Have you ever used the OS that comes on the OPO phones? Have you ever used CM13 king slayer?

My day of use impressions:
Just got mine in the mail this morning, pretty nice phone for only $400. Software is a little buggy though, things like Spotify playing through the earpiece until I restarted and text messages not popping up, auto brightness going from dim to super bright etc. All things that should be fixed with updates. Not really worried about the RAM management since I maybe ever am using three apps at once at the most. Battery life is about the same as my 5S (4 hours texting, browsing, music, Facebook, toilet gaming), screen looks pretty good for 1080P too. Very fast phone, with only the minimal usual Android UI lag.

Hoping in a couple of weeks some solid ROMs will be available and I can ditch the iffy "Oxygen OS" for Cyanogenmod or Paranoid Android.

I think the biggest surprise to me is how cool the phone feels. I mean that in a literal sense. Every phone from Blackberry to iPhone has gotten warm or hot to the touch just browsing the web. This thing only got mildly warm while downloading 30 apps or so when I first got it, been cool to the touch ever since. Not sure how they managed that when even Apple hasn't (although I have never used a 6S so maybe there).

The only truly negative I have to say is that it's too thin and the casing too slick. Case definitely required.

So much for specs when software is **** huh?
Its called Aggressive RAM Management, Samsung had done it to Note4, Note5 and S6 range last year on Android 5.1.1, the phone doesn't use up the RAM, it actually works as if it has less RAM, e.g. it has 4GB to use, but its setup to get aggressive at 2.5GB. Its a way to save battery as the chip will require less voltage.

In Android 6.0.1 Samsung have made it user adjustable, I am able to setup what apps have the freedom to stay in RAM and what may be aggressively be closed. OnePlus should have done the same.
