I am cautiously optimistic on the OnePlus Three next year, and I would like to see this;

- Build quality matching the new OnePlus X, with the flat back
- AMOLED QuadHD display
- SD820 Processor
- 4GB RAM
- Running off Android 6.0 base

If OnePlus can make the OnePlus Three with those above spec's, which is expected for a 2016 smartphone, it could be killer. Even if they up the price over $400.

To me the biggest knock on the One and Two is poor display, they need to get in on the Samsung displays, even if it's the old Note 4 display, which is still killer compared to the bad LCD on the original OPO's.

Same here. Love what OnePlus did with the display and build materials, but they completely ruined it with outdated internals. If they can put a Snapdragon 820 and a bigger screen and charge about $100 extra that would be great.

Small impressions update:

- Beautiful build and feel in the hand
- AMOLED screen complements the look with deep blacks
- Very snappy and smooth and multitasks well despite being firmly in the midrange
- Oxygen has lots of nice tweaks from gestures to button customisation, themes to ambient display
- Camera fires fast. Low light results are predictably noisy
- Free gel case in the box
- No backlight on buttons (I usually disable anyway)
- No NFC, 5ghz wifi, fingerprint scanner or 4k recording as we know
- Early days for the battery but I'd look towards 3-5 hours (4G vs WiFi)
- Did I mention how nice the steel/glass combo is? The missus 'wowed' and almost started stroking it.... hers arrives tomorrow.

The Carbon case is a little disappointing as the front/side edges are a bit uneven in terms of pattern coverage where they taper. May just be the carbon pattern case.

Couldn't get out to grab some outdoor pics due to poorly kids so will try tomorrow. Couple of indoor shots with and without flash compared to the 6s:

I don't see anything particularly wrong with my Oneplus One display. Seems like a pretty good IPS screen to me. While I would like to see them put in an AMOLED screen, I don't see much reason to go QHD unless they can cram a 5.7" screen in roughly the same overall dimensions somehow (so far only Samsung Note 5 has done that). For 5.5" the 1080p screen is more than good enough without extra battery drain.

I also don't agree about the flat back. One of the great features of my One is that for a large phone it is actually quite comfortable to hold and I think the way the curved back rests against my palm is one factor. A big glass back is just another thing to break and would mess up with customizing your phone with back covers as full cases increase size. The sandstone finish is also awesome for grip.

I would prefer seeing the fingerprint scanner in the back like on the new Nexus phones, an AMOLED 1080p display and SD820 (if it doesn't run hot like the 810). With Android 6.x of course.

it has arrived. Just setting up now. Initial impressions very favourable and the silicone case is exact copy of Apple's cases including the fleecy lining.

Photos and such later.

In its case it does look like my iPhone 6S Plus cousin :)

OK first impressions.

I have to keep reminding myself this device is near the same price as the 16gb Moto G because whilst using it it feels much more premium and flagship like.

The screen for an AMOLED is a revelation. Great viewing angles and the best natural white colour profile even compared to the 6P or Edge + who both have a much yellower hue. The One Plus X white is similar to LCD.

There are a number of software glitches however with oxygen OS.

1. Initial setup the WiFi selection process gets stuck and has to be skipped

2. APN setting screen is messed up

3. Mobile network name gets messed up at times

4. SD Card unreadable after update - I had to format it as NTFS for it to be readable as a workaround

Performance has been very good. Not as smooth as my Moto X Style, Nexus 6P, Edge + but far beyond any budget or low-mid priced android handsets. Were talking 2014 flagship performance and for a $250 that's still bloody awesome.

Battery life seems pretty good.

This is me hammering it today - way more than I'd usually use it (80 mins navigation, 6-7 hours as a hotspot, dual sims with one sim dropping to one bar most the day, bluetooth with a vivosmart for notifications, plus all the other common activities all on 4G).

Some low light camera shots.

Predictably mediocre to downright mushy. Don't really want to be pixel peeping these!

Will try and shoot some daylight shots later, very wet and grey day so far here.

I'm really impressed with this phone so far especially the quality of the Amoled panel they are using. Its one of the best 1080p Amoled panels I've seen and belies the fact it's in a $250 device.

Couldn't agree more. AMOLED looks great, not too warm as some can, and really works with the black as well to look like a slab. Design and build feels like it could be as classic as the Nexus 4 and iPhone 4.

Dual sim is a big plus for me and, although the camera was never going to be outstanding in low light, it shutters quickly so captures motion better than I thought it would.

Battery worked out great today for me on a lighter day. Down to 60% which is on post with my 6s on a similarly light day.

Unless you need bleeding edge specs, I think most people will like what they pay for.

So if I don't care about.benchmark scores/build quality, is this worth $50/more than the G? Or the opo? You can get the 64 gig used around $200

Hard to say if you're ignoring specs and build/design.

What's gonna suit your needs better out of screen size, storage, waterproofing, single or dual sim, Android skin, something else?

Been great reading both your thoughts on this device.
A friend of mine has the One Plus One and he loves it. I had a play with it a couple of weeks ago and whilst it's not a phone I'd choose (too big / wide and I didn't like the sand papery back, which I know others love) this 'X' model looks right up my street.

I won't order one, as I'm currently on my Priv test ha, but really enjoying your photos and impressions! Do post more once you've settled in with the unit some more!

How long did you guys wait for your OnePlus X after ordering?
I've ordered OPT, and received it 3-4 days afterwards. Others where complaining about slow shipments (@MRU included), but I had probably the fastest order-ship-received time ever.

But wasn't happy with the screen, so I've sold OPT just a couple of days after receiving the thing. Now I've ordered OPX, but for 3 days it says 'pending shipment'.

I guess I will have to wait for 1-2 weeks? :(

Came quicker than I thought. They simply didn't update my shipping notification until after it reached UK, When they did update shipping status it showed it had shipped from HK a few days before. So in all and including the weekend I ordered on the Thursday and it arrived the following Tuesday - so very quick in fairness to them :)

So don't worry if shipping status seems to linger for a day or two unchanged. I imagine they are sending the out in bulk containers till they get to their hubs and then sending them out from there onwards.

I got updates from DHL who handled the deliveries. I ordered two:

First on Thursday morning when the website was folding. That one arrived Monday morning. I did get a shipped alert then an SMS from DHL the morning of delivery. The second was ordered Thursday afternoon which arrived Tuesday.

Both probably spent a day on processing and both times OnePlus sent an email saying my order has shipped after I'd received them. I've bought three OP2s and it was a similar story (silence for a few days then a delivery).

Some point n shoot day time pics from a (rainy) trip to Manchester.

They're 'OK' is about as far s is go... Comparing them to a flagship is probably unfair.

^ Yeah they do the job and in the price range of the phone it compared favourably to the Moto G for example, but there is a lot of grain and fuzziness even in daylight shots.

Yeah... It feels like they've gone a bit wild with the software. That and ramping up the shutter speed makes thematic bit too noisy/muddy.

Got my Oneplus X yesterday. Compared to the Oneplus One, the X has a much better speaker and vibration motor. Unfortunately OxygenOS is nowhere near as nice as CyanogenOS. Just missing lots of adjustable features but its acceptable I suppose and has a dark theme to allow for further power use reductions thanks to AMOLEDs pixels being off when they're black.

The phone itself is is very nice looking and I still wish this was the design Apple had used for the iPhone 6. It really puts their phone to shame. Alas, it also has the main beef I have with the iPhone 6: it's a rather slippery phone. The 17 grooves on the sides they like to flaunt in marketing material really don't seem to do anything for grip as the back of the phone is slick. The included transparent rubber case, while probably not providing all that much protection, adds a tiny bit of grip to the phone and also makes it easier to pick up off the table. I do wish it had a rougher texture as I'm very used to the grippiness of the sandstone black One by now.

I really hope that they make the switch on the side configurable eventually. The current functionality for changing notification settings is pretty much useless to me. The lack of a backlight for the capacitive buttons is ******** and they should've made the icons at least readable but you quickly get used to where the buttons are so its not a deal breaker for me.

I'd say this is a worthy successor for the Galaxy S4 in the smallest 5" phone category only really let down by the bare-bones OxygenOS. It seems kernel sources were just released so we will probably see better ROMs quite fast since the phone doesn't have any special features like fingerprint readers etc.

Also got mine this morning.
Pretty phone, one of the best looking phones on the market for sure. It really gives you that 'premium' feel in the hand. But I do agree that this is a slippery phone. But I've owned Mi Note Pro as well, and by comparison, Mi Note is way more slippery than OPX is :)

Oxygen OS is still buggy like it was on OPT. But that will be sorted out. My main problem with OPT was that it has a awful screen, one of the worst displays I have ever used in last 3 years. OPX fixed that and then some. I simply can't believe that they managed to put Amoled display in 260€ phone.

But we will see how that amoled screen behaves, will it have burn ins and other (cheap) amoled display problems. Hope not :)

I will write some more in a week or so, since I own this phone for just a couple of hours. And yea, it's snappy and fluid enough ^^

Now that I've opened my mind to the world of affordable, unlocked midrangers, the X doesn't seem so appealing. But I just got my invite...
