Your going to spend $2000-$3000 and are worried about "chucking" 2 little chunks of ram, worth $43 (owc price) total new to get matching ram at a reasonable price?

(sorry a bit off topic, but . . )
Yeah, cause it's an extra hundred bucks and using memory monitors on my last Macbook Pro, I was hard pressed to get beyond 16GB RAM even while video editing. And it's an easy upgrade to do at any time. So my suggestion is to monitor your usage first. Although you certainly need more than 8GB RAM, most people won't actually use 32GB of RAM.

Don't cheap out on your HDD when you are this close. Bump up to the 512SSD and in a year you can thank me as even it gets close to full with files and programs you want instant access to. If money is that tight, then wait on the RAM upgrade and external until next year sometime.

Listen to the man, he is 100% right on the money!

I am so tempted by this instead of a 15" MacBook Pro. I already have a 13" from late 2013 but want something new. Also, my thunderbolt screen looks so pants now.

Typing away on my mid-level 27 inch as I speak, WOW the screen is pretty huge, I am hoping/assuming I will get accustomed to the size difference over my 21 inch. Very fast, and awesome screen.

Well pulled the trigger.

I've got a soon to be gone educational status and the price isn't going to drop much before next October.

Hardware
  • 4.0GHz quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 4.2GHz
  • 8GB 1867MHz DDR3 SDRAM - two 4GB
  • 512GB Flash Storage
  • AMD Radeon R9 M395X with 4GB video memory
  • Magic Trackpad 2
  • Magic Keyboard (British) & User’s Guide (English)
  • Accessory Kit
Any ideas what's in the accessory kit and are there any extras thrown in with the education purchase?

Got a MBP three years ago and it came with a £50 credit for the app store.

I think I'm in the same boat as you. I'm looking at getting it at HE prices.

Stuck between 512GB SSD and a high Fusion Drive. My 13" 500gb has only 46gb left on it.

Macbook Pro 15.4" (16gb, 1TB SSD) or iMac 5K (16gb, 512GB SSD)? Both come out at £2226.

I currently have an rMBP 13" late 2013

Ordered from MacMall:

Apple 27" iMac with Retina 5K display
Intel Core i7 4.0GHz
8GB RAM (will upgrade to 32GB)
512GB Flash Storage
AMD Radeon R9 M395X with 4GB of GDDR5 memory

On backorder.

Just pulled the trigger on the Late 2015 27" iMac 5K 4.0GHz i7/32GB RAM/512SSD/Magic Keyboard/Magic Trackpad 2/AMD R9 M395X 4GB. October 24th-28th. Super excited!

All this to surf the web in 5K! :)

Now I just need to sell my 2015 MacBook Pro Retina 2.8GHz i7 and my Dell Ultrawide Display. I've had nothing but notebooks since 2007. Scared. I might have to get the iPad Pro for portability.

I'm so jealous. I've got it set up in my "saved bag" and am pondering it.

What do you have now?

It's only money

Currently have a late 2013 13" 2.6 Retina MacBook Pro 8gb 512gb SSD 27" Thunderbolt Display.

Was looking at the top end 15" rMBP but that hasn't changed much and then this new iMac comes along lol

Yeah, I made up my mind after the iPad Pro was announced... rMBP are nice, but the screen is just too small... Too weird having a retina display and some crappy display next to it. This would be a MAJOR upgrade for you. DO IT! ;)
