im assuming this is not going to be like mavericks where very little changed from DP1 to gm.. was just mostly bug fixes. there will be a lot of changes from now till GM?

I'd assume so, given how many features are currently missing.

So guess Apple pulled something like Voice Memos last year

I figure Photo Booth is currently getting a non "curtains and stage" makeover, stripping it of all that pointless and horrendous crap they had in the old version.

Also, for what its worth, early 2009 15" MacBook Pro, SSD, 8GB of RAM, DP1 was very very buggy. Nowhere near being a daily driver. Safari crashed on me a few times, System Preferences (trying to add an Internet Account was a repeatable crash), Preview, really all over. Nothing too terrible, stable enough to mess around in, but very clearly a beta release.

I would also like to take some time to pour out a bit of my 40oz for Dashboard. Its not dead, but its on life support for sure. Now that I have widgets in Notification Center, I have no use for Dashboard. RIP, 10.4-10.9.

When clicking "connect to server" there a neat little menu now for favorite servers. So no need for manually typing in them anymore if PCs don't show up on their own. ;)

That has been there since... well forever.

No offense at all to anybody, but what's with all the old features accidentally being pointed out as new for Yosemite?

Really?
Guess I'am just expecting too much to see something new. :D

Could have swore it wasn't there before... lol

Launchpad folders

Can anyone please attach a screenshot from folders in launchpad? Is it a la iOS 7 or the old way?

I think in terms of feature set it's pretty much there, it'll be tweaks to the UI, bug fixes, making features actually work etc.

lol, at least since 10.2

In Safari, when you click in the addressbar, you'll get an overview of your recent pages, and your favorites. I used to have the favorites toolbar visible, and on it I have several folders, and some bookmarks. Now when I click in the URL area, it'll show the bookmarks, but not the folders...

Anyone else notice this? it makes it pretty unusable for me :) and I still 'have to' enable the bookmark toolbar...

I'd love to have contacts view in Mail over conversation view. (basically akin to the way Messages handles it)

Make it a toggle in the toolbar and I'll be much, much happier in Mail.

In full screen mode, when you bring up the menubar, the traffic light buttons appear, and you can close the window or exit full screen mode.

Safari 8 has this new thing in the Develop Menu, it show your current Mac and a text that reads something like "There are no apps to be inspected". It's a direct translation from my system in spanish so your mileage may be different.

The safari address/search bar would look so much better if it was stretched to fill all that empty space. Does anyone else agree?

Agreed. It looks so stubby how it is all scrunched in the center. Although URLs aren't always super long, its nice to be able to see as much as possible when they are long.

Then they should have waited a while.

I guess you don't get the purpose of a beta then. If everything worked perfect it would be released as the GM already.

I'm already used it it by now. The empty space is for extensions FWIW.

One thing I don't like is the centered search text in finder. Looks so off with the logo.

Can anyone post a picture of the ⌘+tab UI? Does it have a blurred background?

Yep, it has a blurred background depending on the wallpaper. Kind of similar to the dock. Icons seem a bit over the top in terms of size though! (Can't remember whether it was like this in Mavericks)

Agreed. I'm not to fussed on the centred search text.

The icons look like they're the same size although if you have lots of apps open, they will get smaller to accommodate the screen size like the dock does.

So the Release notes state:

PhotoBooth is not included in this developer preview.

So looks like it's not dead :)

Not surprising. It was probably the worst offender of skeuomorphism and it's not exactly the first thing they rush to change. Would've looked too out of place if they kept it for now.

Never thought Apple would get rid of it either, it's one of the things everyone loves and one of the things that makes a Mac a Mac.
