The flatness of the interface is so boring.

I'm not saying anything bad about your opinion, but its funny how this works. Ever since apple went all 3D in leopard, people have complained that "its never been the same since tiger". (I liked tiger btw), however now that apple has gone back to a flat simple interface, now everyone just complains about that. It just comes down to this fact,

People just don't like change ;)

iCloud CONFUSION

If I upgrade to Y. P Beta and keep my IOS7 devices, will I lose my iCal iCloud data???

Our family uses the ical shared across platforms and I DO NOT want to lose our Calendars. I don't care about documents, JUST iCal.

Thanks.

I wonder if in about 10 years we will have this new system come out that looks like everything in real life. Metal, wood, dirt, grass. And we'll all think it is SOO futuristic and cool!

Anyone got any idea what exactly that is (yes for debugging the layout of some sort... but why do EYE see it?!). And more importantly how to get rid of it?!

Yes. those messages relate to auto-layout and constraints as used in Interface Builder in Xcode.

This might relate to an interesting way how dev teams at Apple iterate increments of software.

In one of the WWDC videos, one of the developers demoed a settings system that he devised while working on part of iOS 8. It allowed him to dial up and down the transparency of layers when showing his work to the designer (possibly Mr Ive). It facilitated quick decision making and explains how Apple were able to have a quick turnaround on redesigning iOS.

Tried to download Yosemite overnight. In the morning App Store indicated it had not finished and stated "connecting". So I pressed pause and it changed to "Downloaded". It is nowhere on my computer and don't see how to redownload.

How about making new threads, and ask your questions there? This is not a thread for troubleshooting.

I wonder if Apple will eventually change the mostly outdated representation of the HD.

great point ! but if you had changed the hard drive icon in OS X , you'd see the customized icon in your screenshot !

Add to iTunes as Spoken Track

I know this feature has been around since Snow Leopard, but IIRC it's always been off by default before.

In Yosemite, you can select a block of text, and choose the service titled "Add to iTunes as a Spoken Track". Give it a title, select a voice, and your text selection appears in iTunes.

Works great in combination with Reader View in Safari, for articles that support it.

Thx for your reply. I figured it must be something like that.
Do you have any idea why EYE get to see it? I currently don't even have XCode installed on that machine. It didn't happen to me running the DPs... only now on the public beta. (The DPs were empty systems though... clean installs... this is an update to Mavericks). And as a follow-up... how can I get rid of that?

Haha, it wouldn't surprise me! Personally I like the new look. No, it doesn't look the greatest on non retina, but it does remind me of tiger. I loved tiger for the clean simplicity. 10.10 Looks good IMO.

I never liked Bing. it seems to me too Ad oriented. Of course, Google is much more Ad oriented, but at least they know how to hide it.

Google is easier to read, and I usually get more relevant search results in Google.

I can't even get any Spotlight search results from Bing. Anyone else experiencing this problem? Also, I seem to remember that we would be able to launch URLs from Spotlight, but that functionality also seems broken for me. Suggestions?

In Yosemite or any other OS?

I think you will loose access to your current apps' iCloud data. In other words, if you have any iOS devices not running iOS 8 you need to sync over iCloud, then I would think twice before upgrading.

I have decided to wait for the release version, as I only have one Mac and several iDevices I need to keep in sync.

Yosemite, sorry for the broad reference; I meant specifically as a Spotlight function.

Also, paths in the info page for a file now use little triangles "▸" instead of a path like a computer directory (e.g. "Macintosh HD/Users", etc)

Do external hard drives show the drive's root or the system root in the path? I.E., does it start out with "Volumes"?

Hi guys

Does anyone here have Yosemite as their ONLY OS? (As in not on a partition)

It's currently downloading and I don't have enough space to make partitioning practical (45GB free space out of 120GB).

So I'm thinking of doing a clean install; but I keep seeing warnings to "make sure you install it on a secondary mac" or "keep it in a partition". I've already backed up to Time Machine so I'm safe in case of a malfunction. Should I go for broke?

That's the decision I'm edging towards...

So would I, but I think Metal is just a low-level language for the A7+ chips - it may not apply to Intel CPUs or any other GPUs.

I was wondering the same thing. I feel like they would've mentioned it during the keynote. It's too bad, it's on OS X where I would like to see improved 3D performance.

I have Dp4 on a secondary HDD on my MacPro and PB ONLY on my air. If you have a backup the PB is pretty stable. You will probably run into a couple problems (personally I've had hangups and wifi needing to be disconnected and reconnected) also it depends on if your software is all capable.
If you have questions PM me as this isn't really the place to go into discussion about it. But overall it really depends what you use your computer for

Hi, how is everyone liking Yosemite so far? I got my code and downloaded as I signed up for public beta but since I only have 1 macbook, I am skeptical about installing it.

I was wondering has anyone installed it via Veritualization such as Parallels or VMware?

The removal of puff of smoke is intentional. I've filed a bug report and the engineers responded that they removed it.

All the fun effects in OS X are now gone just because they wanted to go flat, and all we get is bland translucency.

I wonder if Apple will eventually change the mostly outdated representation of the HD.

Apple had the time to change the Energy Saver icon in System Preferences from a CFL to an LED bulb to mark the pace of technology, but apparently magnetic hard drives are here to stay for now. ;/
