Forum topic:
OS X 10.10 Yosemite: All The Little Things

Seems like the appropriate forum to ask a question… and by the way, Im not troubleshooting, I'm asking a question.

This is a thread for finding and identifying all the new changes, improvements and features not noted by Apple.

It is NOT for bug reporting, questions or troubleshooting. There's an entire forum for that.

Is this new? I'm not sure, but I haven't noticed it before, so...

Hi guys

Does anyone here have Yosemite as their ONLY OS? (As in not on a partition)

It's currently downloading and I don't have enough space to make partitioning practical (45GB free space out of 120GB).

So I'm thinking of doing a clean install; but I keep seeing warnings to "make sure you install it on a secondary mac" or "keep it in a partition". I've already backed up to Time Machine so I'm safe in case of a malfunction. Should I go for broke?

That's the decision I'm edging towards...

I have it as my only OS - installed it over Mavericks. Running pretty smoothly! I don't do anything too crazy on it (web browse, music, Office), but it's been great as a daily driver so far. As long as you have a TM backup you should be fine.

I really expected a full new system icon set. Kinda surprised so many originals are still there. Makes me worry a bit.

1) Are there notifications for new posts from subscribed pages via RSS?
2) Are they synced with iOS?

1) I don't think there are notifications. They just appear in the "Shared Links" sidebar like Twitter and LinkedIn in Mavericks

2) I don't have an iOS device so I really can't tell. Maybe someone else can find out more about it

Hi, how is everyone liking Yosemite so far? I got my code and downloaded as I signed up for public beta but since I only have 1 macbook, I am skeptical about installing it.

I was wondering has anyone installed it via Veritualization such as Parallels or VMware?

Remember that it's a beta, and NOT ready for prime time. Given that your macbook is your primary, only, machine, you are definitely in the "not recommended" category. You might have no problems at all, and then again you could have nothing but problems. You could end up re-formatting your disk, re-installing Mavericks, and very possibly losing critical data.

If you can survive those possibilities, then install it. The bottom line is that it's your decision, but be aware you could very easily regret it. It's a beta, and the rule of thumb is that your mileage WILL very, and know one can know just exactly what your mileage will be.

If I upgrade to Y. P Beta and keep my IOS7 devices, will I lose my iCal iCloud data???

Our family uses the ical shared across platforms and I DO NOT want to lose our Calendars. I don't care about documents, JUST iCal.

Thanks.

iCloud Documents and Data does not sync, but iCloud Calendars, Reminders, and Notes still do. My iOS 7 iPhone calendar remains in sync with my primary computer running Yosemite Public Beta.

I stupidly missed the "Upgrade to iCloud Drive" option (it really wasn't as obvious as it should've been), so I can't use Documents & Data sync anymore. It's not a big deal for iWork documents since I use a File Transporter, but I had to give up Clear for reminders and to-do items. I switched back to Reminders (for the time being?) and that has worked fine.

Mac OS X Yosemite Public Beta iTunes 12.0

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this but, I just got an update from the Mac App Store for iTunes 12.0 and it actually looks real nice!

I know I might be a little late here, but I'm really liking the new Album Art folder look.

The album square is much more squared. I never did like how it blended in to a bold colour.

And.. you cannot reinstall Mavricks from a Time Machine backup. You will need to do a fresh install then restore from TM.

Use an external hard disk to install the beta and boot off that. You can even use an ssd drive:

You can... just option key boot to the TM disk and you will be in recovery. From there you can use Disk Util to erase the disk then just click restore.

Same here, except I opted not to turn on iCloud Drive - doing that would turn off Documents and Data on all my other devices. Whether you turn it on or leave it off, upgrading to Documents and Data won't sync on the Yosemite beta.

does anyone have this on their notification centre?
os x 10.10 dp4, rMBP late 2013, upgrade from Mavericks not clean install.

Just noticed Time Machine was tweaked a little. Those hideous slanted 3d buttons at the bottom are gone in full screen mode. Those looked dated and didn't fit i n even in the last OS versions.
