Not a bug in Yosemite itself, but I didn't want to start another topic: Java won't install. The latest stable build, 8 update 8, gives an OSVERSION_ERROR message. The latest beta, 8 update 20 states:

"Java from Oracle requires Mac OX X 10.7.3 or later. Your system has Mac OS X Version 10.10."

It seems that a programmer at Oracle doesn't know how to properly compare version numbers. I wonder if we'll see more apps refusing to install because the installers think 10.10 < 10.9.

I suppose you could trick the installer, sometimes there is a file which specifes min OS ver. After upgrade from Mavericks JAVA is working as it should without any modifications (being preinstalled).

Some issues with the Dock:

1. When a window is of maximum height, the Dock will overlap the window by 2 pixels or so.
2. The context-menus and labels for the Dock seem somewhat disconnected from the Dock itself. The arrow is a good 15-20 pixels above the top part of the dock.
3. Some icons don't scale as well as pre 10.10 ones, particularly the Activity Monitor icon.

Thanks. I was actually wondering whether a preinstalled Java would make it through the upgrade process. I'm not game to upgrade my main partition yet, hence first trying out my apps and dev tools on a fresh install in its own partition.

There's an explicit (and flawed) check for OS Version >= 10.7.3 in a file called distribution.dist, however editing that file results in a code signing error.

Edit: Success! If anybody is interested, I have installed Netbeans with Java with the following steps:

1. Copy out NetBeans 8.0 with JDK 8 Update 5.mpkg from the DMG to disk
2. Edit the Contents/distribution.dist file to bypass the check:
function checkSystemversion() {
return true;
...
}
3. Delete the directory Contents/_CodeSignature
4. Change security settings to install from anywhere
5. Run the installer

My spotlight just keeps crashing.
Typing any letter will crash the pop-up window.

Does anyone meet the same issue? ( Retina Macbook Pro, update from 10.9.3 )

Wi-Fi doesn't work. When I connect to a wifi network it appears as if it is connected, but when I try to open anything that requires an internet connection it doesn't load as if the server is not responding. Tried connecting via Ethernet and it works fine. I know the problem is with the mac and not the router because every other device in my house connects to the internet just fine.

In Safari when you type an address in and the Favorites pop up my folders don't show. Only my Favorites not in folders are listed. Does anybody have a solution for that?

Thanks

I could be very wrong, but a lot of these uncommon issues COULD be related to upgrading as opposed to a clean install, such as spotlight crashing, Wi-Fi not working, et. al.

The Disk Utility Permissions thing is a build issue.

Could you post an image of Activity monitor in 10.10.

Maybe they started work on Yosemite back in the mountain lion days?

Apparently my stuff is jacked up and maybe I need to do a fresh install. Not sure why it would just revert back to not working when upgraded from a working environment. Oh well... tis the fun of betas.

Bugs and Improvements

Here are the bugs that I have found:

Typing on Facebook Chat moves the screen
Graphical Glitches on some system pref settings ( i.e. Network)
The phone calls from your mac are hit or miss.
First time mail may stick at upgrading. (Can force quit and restart app to resolve issue)
Instant Hotspot doesn't show up
Dark Mode isn't there
iApps are not compatible (prob means they are releasing a newer version)
Graphical glitches with Microsoft Office 2011
Applications Menu from dock glitches
Clicking the extensions link in system pref, brings you to a broken appstore link.
iCloud prefs backs out at times.

As far as improvements:

My battery now charges to 100% really quick!

I had this problem but fixed it by going in to system prefs/network/advanced/proxies and turning off 'auto proxy discovery'.

-Volume icon grayed out (drives me crazy because I can't listen to music or any videos)
-System preferences very slow starting up and freezes every time I click on sound options, however all other options work fine (requires a force close every time)
-Headphones appear to not emit sound either
-Safari very very slow loading webpages
-Whenever I click "move to trash" it thinks about it for a good 15 seconds
-Previously deleted things in finder are now found in both finder and the trash after restart
-Photo booth missing icon/application
-Mail once prevented shutdown and wouldn't force quit
-FaceTime takes very long booting up app and once booted up, camera not working

So far, for me, iOS 8 is a lot more usable and less buggy.

Installed Yosemite on my Late 2013 rMBP - 2.3 i7, 16GB of RAM.

I wish I had backed up my data, because I kind of want to downgrade to Mavericks. A couple of issues with Yosemite:

- Battery life appears to be all over the place. Seems like my battery is draining faster and the "time remaining" is all over the place, but a lot less compared to what I would see in Mavericks

- Graphics performance is bad. Animations and scrolling are very sluggish, which is quite surprising given how new this machine is. I have noticed that if I switch to the discrete card things are faster, but I don't want to have to engage the discrete card to have smooth animations

- RAM usage: Running Safari & Skype - 11 Gigs of RAM used!! Is this normal?

Hopefully these issues are addressed soon, but seems sloppy that the graphics performance would be this bad.

On the other hand, maybe I'm just expecting too much from a developer preview.

I can't delete some messages in Mail, specifically from our MediaTemple mail server when using IMAP. I'd be curious if anyone else is having these issues...iCloud and Gmail seem to work fine in the app.
