I'm happy with 9.3.3 and the jailbreakme home icon. My phone is virtually untethered now. I don't expect to see an un-jailbreak phone until I get a new iPhone 8. I doubt the hackers will ever stop or give up as long as there is good OS to crack.

Me to, in sitting on 9.3.3 and its perfect! I bought a special phone for Uber rides.

They don't have to

Jailbreak community is niche and stock iOS devices fly off the shelves

Closed ecosystem is a good marketing talking point for security

Security research is free when jailbreaks become public

They borrow tweak ideas and slowly adopt concepts

Apple has a good system going on

Okay I get it, but why they can't a make a "Root" system just like Android?

If you wanna root you can, but its automaticly off.
Soo there is no surrity hole or a exploit. Samsung root system is also available on every android phone. Why cant have iphone that?

Because it garners a reputation and people who have no business rooting their phones that can barely manuever stock are now "bricking" their devices and blaming Apple.

People are idiocracy level dumb in case you haven't observed

With great power comes great responsibility. I agree it would be nice (for us) but apple has a reputation to try to manage. And it's apple. Sandboxed hell. They won't do it period so why speculate?

This is the company that downgraded 1-month free Apple account sideload a to 7 days

And again free security research. If not for public jb they'd have to hire more heads for their security team. The barrier to entry as is works out favorably for apple.

Remember "it just works." Opening up the gates to the walled garden is kinda a confession "our solution works but the end user's may be wayyy better"

Android is open bc google doesn't care with fragmentation and hw specific Launchers and bloatware and all the rest of it, how your experience is- google makes their money off your info and advertising. They aren't a hw company in the same sense, and their phones aren't built to last in 3 months no one cares. iPhones hold their appeal at least for a year

I'd prefer to get back on track of subject and jailbreak related at the very least. People have gone down this "what if apple lets up" rabbit hole many times. It's a pipe dream.

You make rooting android sound much more rosy than it is in reality imo. Some models are easy to root, most require quite a bit of work, and some are impossible to root. For my Z5 compact it's a bit of work, that so far I've been to lazy to do, so I get by with netguard for ads, and disabling/enabling stuff through adb for now.

I do get your point though. Apple's insistence on dumbing down everything really gets annoying over time. But you're talking about a company that thinks photo info in their photos app, home screen looping or full urls might confuse people. And that's besides the fact that they want to be perceived as 'safe' by the corporate world. Apple facilitating rooting will never happen.

Expanding on @thadoggfather comment on people who have no business rooting their phones…

I work with a woman about the same age as my mom. This woman has no interest in computers. I was told repeatedly by her when a new hire that "I don't DO computers".

The boss had to slip one in to her office when she wasn't looking. Which pissed her off no end (but ended my having to handle her email). To this day I am constantly having to clean up her mess because she uses a mouse with two hands.

Years and years later I am still explaining the basics, she is still making the same stupid mistakes and hasn't learrned a damn thing.

She bought an iPhone at some point. Guess who set up her work email to her phone? Guess who gets to answer stupid questions about the whacked up things she does to her phone?

Sometimes, things are just too much of a hassle and would involve the kind of attention I know she has no patience or capacity to handle. So, there is a lot of me telling her things like this: "This is too complicated for you to understand. You won't get it. It will require you to learn something."

Honestly…you don't want this type of person rooting. And Apple has A LOT of this type of customer. The people you find here on MacRumors are not the average Apple customer.

OMG, you wouldn't believe!

And this is that it's BETTER now!

This is why a jailbreaking option should never be presented to this type of person.

Have a good Memorial Day as well!

I got a unopened SE which came with 9.3.3. Boy I was lucky. Not that lucky though, wished it had 10.2 instead. I want CallKit features on my SE. :(

10.3.1 SHSH2 blobs saved for my new SE just in case.

when my clients tell me that they have a Macbook or other Apple laptop, I immediately recognize that trying to explain anything technical to them is absolutely futile, and I know that the customer will break more stuff accidentally than any of my pc users on a regular basis. They see my jb homescreen and say "I want to do that" Nope. No. Just. No.

LOL!

The woman I speak of uses a PC at work because that's what the boss buys. I and the person up front are the only ones who have Macs.

But at home this woman has an iMac (which she asks me questions about when she has problems). She's killed her Outlook database 3 times and 'accidentally' deleted stuff off the server twice!

She wouldn't recognize the difference between my homescreen (jailbroken) and hers (stock) she's that dense.

Release expected in .. mods should update title to weeks/months/years :p

At least something happened!

Really really happy with extra_recipe complete jb for 10.1.1 on 7+

Yeah this is one long week!

Also agree that extra_recipe has been brilliant for me so far.

Go ahead & update because no 10.3 jailbreak is coming until August lol.

That and my understanding is a JB isn't actually coming the guy is going to showcase his exploits which would then have to be wrapped up into a JB that we could use. I doubt we will find someone to make the JB for us. Since I'm getting a iPhone 8 anyway I don't know if a JB will be relevant for me.

In light of today's ultra lackluster iOS 11 preview, now I find myself wanting to JB my 7Plus more than ever. However being on 10.2.1, I am stuck waiting.

Apple missed a serious opportunity to revamp the springboard.
