hmm i keep getting this on mobileterminal

Errors were encountered while processing:
/var/root/pdanet1.33.deb

cannot access archive: no such file or directory

=/

what am i doing wrong guys?

i placed the .deb in the var/root folder
pdanet1.33.deb needs to go in /var/root (the leading slash is important).

Thanks cityfidohiptop for the workaround!! 1.33 isn't a great option for me since it runs the cpu ~94% constantly, draining the battery pretty quick once the thermal shutoff bumps the iPhone into charged mode instead of charging. 1.40 runs at ~4% cpu for me.

That's why i installed 1.32! (search for pdanet1.32.deb)
Works at 4% cpu...

Support the devs. Buy the App.

I don't think it's that people don't want to support the devs, it's that they make no mention that PDAnet is no longer free until you have installed it and used it for awhile and all of a sudden a dialog box pops up and says its time to pony up. Not to mention that $30 is a LOT for an app that is only available for jailbroken phones and could become unusable if Apple ever creates an un-jailbreakable firmware.

Yeah, in good conscience I'll probably just delete the app and go back to using ssh -D. iCal won't use a socks proxy for some reason, but everything else works. There was absolutely no mention that PdaNet was shareware when I first installed the 1.3x version, and the surprise end-of-trial-period and $29 fee to keep everything humming is pretty lame. More power to the devs if they can get people to buy, but I'm expressing my opinion by not buying it at that price.

I believe you should have done your homework on junefabrics. They have a long history of Tethering Apps with other phones and they are priced at $35. I was actually surprised to to see the iPhone version come out Free. I was almost positive that this would be a paid app.

Another important note: Has any one downloaded Oracle databases 10g, 11 etc. You can just go to their site, download the app and you are good to go. No Trialware, Shareware issues to deal with. But when you try to purchase. It costs more than a pretty penny to any one trying to make the purchase.

Validation still stands !!. Yes they should have mentioned that it was shareware, but then again they have never given this app free for any phone. There will be folks that buy and there will always be others that won't. This whole concept of try before you buy is total BS and we all know it.

Don't get me wrong. I do it too, the whole 9 yards, xbox, iphone, sat. But then there are times I genuinely want to support the efforts.

I was aware of their history with other phones. The Oracle analogy doesn't quite fit since Oracle lets you download and use the developer versions without time limits. Nothing stops working unexpectedly. In the end, it doesn't matter to me. I have no misplaced sense of entitlement for getting this app for free if the devs don't want to give it out for free.

I think you should get your version free for all the lobbying you are doing for them! lol... That is if you already don't work for June Fabrics! lol... :D

I was jk, but seriously though... :p I don't think anybody in this thread is arguing that devs should or should not get their share of cash for their efforts.

Speaking of history though, June Fabrics has clearly stated in the past the price for the app on those phones. Those were finished products and that's why they were charging a price for them. But for the iPhone they were not charging and it was shocking to everybody once they did. Personally, I think if they were clear from the beginning about the price not so many people would have been upset and would have pulled out their credit cards and paid for it. I know you know that because you say that yourself on your comment. And again that's not what's being discussed here.

I'm pretty sure they didn't want to charge customers for an app that wasn't "ready" or in Beta stage and that's why it was free. Once they deemed PdaNet for the iPhone was ready they should have -- as a matter of principle -- told their consumers that it was time to pay up for the wonderful job they've done with the app. Or at least posted it on their website! I'm sure most of us wouldn't have had a problem with that. I wouldn't have! And btw, I only use it once or twice a month or so.

One thing I wonder though is, why is it that June Fabrics isn't very clear as of today of what the price for the app is on their website? I did just notice however that they added this to their site: "*A free version will be provided after 14 days trial expired. To register the full version, make sure PdaNet is connected and go to http://my.iPhone on the computer end." That was probably added either yesterday or today because I had not noticed it on Monday when I went to their site. Or maybe it was just that... I didn't notice (giving them the benefit of the doubt).

I suggest everyone put their morality aside for a moment and discuss the drawbacks to using 1.33. I'm hearing from a couple of you on here that 1.33 uses more CPU than 1.4 or 1.32. Can anyone verify this, because it doesn't seem to make sense?

If this is the case, it might be best just to upgrade to 1.4 again and then use the workaround someone described here to bypass the paid activation.

look, it was free until a gazillion people started to use it. It went from free to cash cow by lying to the end user.

I don't care how many other products they DO charge for, I accept no such terms when installing my pdanet (which I have now turned my back on by uninstalling).

Want to charge for a program, be a man and charge for it instead of offering it free and then turning sissy gouger when the product becomes popular..... greedy (30$ my ass) cowards.

Nope I don't work for junefabrics. In fact I purchased the 1.40 and it works well. I hardly use it but i feel they are the only ones the market to offer such a product.

so whats wrong with 1.33??? Anyone that downgraded to 1.33 from 1.40 see a difference??

nothing is wrong with 1.33
its that 1.4 is a trial and after so long you can only access http:// sites.
so with downgrading to 1.33 you can use it on what ever site for as long as you want.

Like someone said, it drains your battery even when the phone is charging. I think the reason for this is because the CPU runs at 94%. It also heats up the phone pretty badly. I downgraded to 1.32 instead. The phone doesn't heat up as much and it doesn't drain the battery. The only thing I noticed with 1.32 is that the pages sometimes hang, but just clicking "refresh" would fix it. It doesn't do it all the time either so it doesn't bother me at all.
