Hi Parsonsmike, sorry to hear that.

Can you open up a terminal in /applications/utilities/terminal.app when Phonix is not open and input + press enter :

Code:
defaults delete com.vs.Phonix

Then try it again?

Hi vivo!

I just updated to the newest version (Phonix-v2b12) and I have some problems now. First of all, if I skip forward or backward in a playlist the player always skips two tracks at once. And suddenly it was skipping forward automatically without ending but this was just the icon, while the song wasn't changing. Very confusing.

The other thing is, that the mediakeys are not working anymore, although I gave Phonix access to the quick start buttons via the accessibility settings of Mac OS. If I push the play button, then iTunes starts. So I changed back to version 2019 build 12, forward and backward skipping works fine, but I still have the problem, that the mediakeys doesn't working anymore (still with enabled access). Don't know, what to do know.

The reason why I wanted to update is, that sometimes when the display get dark to save battery, Phonix stops the playback after the song, which is playing. It doesn't go further to the next song. That's only happening, when the display turns off. And the same thing happens, if one album ends in the playlist. Phonix is not going to the next song, which is the first of an album, which I added to the playlist. This is happening as well when the display is turned on.

Could you help me please? :)

Hi eimsbush!

Can you try v2b14 from https://phonix.nl.eu.org if I did it right it will bring back mediakeys but you have to allow it in the system settings. or maybe it still is.

Cheers,
Viktor

Dear Victor, I got another issue right know. Everytime when I want to open a File out of Finder or from theDesktop I get this Message from Phonix:

"The document “2019-05-18_23h57m18.wav” could not be opened. Phonix cannot open files in the “Any file/folder” format."

Drag and drop the files is still working.

I never got these messages before and to open files was never a problem. So what this means?

Hello,

Phonix v2 build 20 is out at http://phonix.nl.eu.org (+ source code)

- fix double next bug
- fix drag files/folders from finder
- STKAudioPlayer rewritten in Swift 5 (http radio stream engine)
- stability fixes

FYI phonix.nl.eu.org is down due to provider troubles. Please have patience will be back up soon.

Dear Victor, I still have the problem, that Phonix stops the playback after the screen gets dark. It doesn't continue to play the Playlist. Is there a solution?
By the way, thanks a lot for developing this player and keep going on with this good thing :)

Hi,

The Phonix website is up again. See https://phonix.nl.eu.org

Meanwhile development is being done to make Phonix 10.15 Catalina compatible. The audio-engine needs to be changed to AVFoundation so that has priority now.

Bye,
V

Hi! I still have the problem, that Phonix stops playback, when the screen goes dark to save energy. Not everytime, but in most cases. I can't use the player with this issue, that happens since various versions. So sadly. Is there a possibility to fix that?

Hi there! Just wanted to ask, if Phonix is still in development. Because it's not possible to reach the website anymore and my last post wasn't answered. Is it working fine on Catalina? Since I haven't update yet.

Hello,

Phonix development has been postponed for the moment for several reasons.
Sorry for any inconvience.

Hey there, just letting you know Phonix works great on Catalina (10.15), except for the dark screen bug. Any chance you could post the source somewhere if you're unable to develop it or put the site back up? Maybe Github? Thanks for resurrecting this app!

Hello,

Sure, I would like to post/upload the source somewhere. But I am not sure about the 3rd party components in binary form. I mean licensewise.

The reason Phonix development has been postponed is:

It was a free hobby project but maintaining costs a yearly developer account for signing and a webspace + data traffic. And while it's been running like 3-4 years data traffic got more and more.

The audio engine definitely has to be rewritten from AUGraph to AVFoundation/Engine for future macOS'es.

The last version v2b24 with some adaptations for 10.15 works but for how long.

Here is the latest Phonix v2b24.dmg that supports 10.13-10.15.1 (as attachment to this post).

Cheers,
Viktor

I did a cursory review of the packages listed on the last version of the Phonix website on Archive.org (late 2018) and it seems like they're all MIT/BSD license with the exception of KMeter-macOS which is GPLv3 (so technically you should be publishing source code anyway if you use this library). Are there any other 3rd party components that are not listed on the website? Either way, for MIT/BSD, distributing binaries of these 3rd party components seems to be allowed.

Regardless, none of this should stop you from distributing the source code to Phonix. If you put it up somewhere, I can review how complex it would be to convert from AUGraph to AVFoundation.

Once again, thanks for shepherding this project for so long! It's very important to have an alternative to iTunes/Apple Music which does not leak data to Apple - and plays so many formats!

Hi Aardvark,

Thanks and thanks for willing to check for the AVFoundation conversion.

Attached to this post is the Phonix v2b24 source code.

Please not that the SHOUTcast API key is removed so you won't be able to query their API.

It looks like a great app. Just one design feedback; the sliders in Preferences do not look very nice within a Desktop environment, they are more suitable for mobile UX. Checkboxes would definitely look better on macOS context.
