I schlepped one of my tripods in my checked luggage last week because I wanted to try some of the long exposures of the water to get that ethereal look. Apparently I still need a neutral density filter for this type of shot. The sun was already below the horizon, my settings were ISO 50 and f/22 and I still could not get a long enough exposure to get that really glassy look. Oh well. At least I tried. :)

If you don't want to carry a whole tripod with you, how about one of these? The Platypod Pro Max make s a good stand-in for a tripod that's more portable.

Here is a 10 second exposure. This was the longest I got, and even then I dropped the exposure a bit still in post. It was a fun experiment if nothing else. :)

There's also a Photoshop trick you can use if you don't have ND filters. Take multiple images and then use Photoshop to merge them. Doing that can create a similar effect of a long exposure by smoothing out water and clouds. Here's one video that shows how to do it.
[doublepost=1503920820][/doublepost]One more eclipse photo. This is what happens when you bump the camera during a long exposure. I thought it looked quite interesting, so I kept it.

Detroit Tigers vs Baltimore Orioles @ Camden Yards

You can spot the baseball against the dugout close to the player/coach with the white cap. We are admittedly not the biggest baseball fans but we do make it a point to get to a game or two each season. Beautiful evening, a good game, and a nice time hanging out with my daughters.

Where is this and what church? Do you know much of the history of the church?

It's on an island on the river Daugava in Latvia. Was a part of a land initially. When a HES was built during the soviet times, water level went up flooding everything, and this became an island. When the HES does some maintenance water is lowered artificially, and a dry passage with old strains on sides to the ruins opens up rarely.

Don't know a lot about the churh itself. :) It's called Ruins of Ikšķile Church on the St. Meinhard's Island.

Comments always appreciated.

Harvest approaches
by another scotsman, on Flickr

Lovely composition. I would have maybe (I am blind so probably wouldnt have seen it at the time) got lower to get both stems against the sky for contrast.

Love the harvest colours. Here in Glasgow we have the usual shades of.... and there are more than 50 of them...
