Another moody shot from Rocky Mountain Arsenal, same prospect but different lens from last week. Same challenging light. This is a 40mm (~24mm) lens on a tech camera. Shortgrass prairie, abandoned homestead (or rather, bought out by the US military when then land was purchased to pursue weapons testing, etc).
Last summer and into the fall we had a resident cormorant whom I nicknamed "Morrey." Haven't seen much of him since then, only a couple of brief sightings. Today I looked out just in time to watch him flying around and circling the pier, and sure enough he landed neatly on one of the posts! Camera in hand, I hustled out to the deck to capture a few shots and he obligingly posed:
