More ruby-throated hummingbird

I did a photo study of flowers, and called it 'SEX!', and some people got really angry about it. Like it is my fault they either don't have any, or it's not good.

Flowers wave their 'sex bits' around in public, shamelessly, and will spread their pollen to any bee or other insect that pops by/in. And flowers are so amazing. Consummate artists of trickery, and coercion. They want to reproduce, to create offspring. It is 'sex', in a different form. Why people saw that as offensive says a lot I guess. It's sad...

Mother Nature definitely puts on display the instinct to reproduce that is inborn in living creatures, including plants, and many ordinary items can be quite phallic and sexy looking -- take the classic, famous images of peppers done by Edward Weston, which certainly would be a prime example. Photographing an item in ways which displays its shape or particular aspects can result in quite beguiling, attractive and, yes, suggestive images. Although I don't usually deliberately set out to focus on the "sexy bits" and/or emphasize the sexual nature of flowers, plants, etc., through the years some of my other flower images have been more suggestive than this particular one, when shape is emphasized. Fruits, vegetables, flowers' "innards," you name it -- all can be quite delightful representatives of life and the urge to create more life.

Actually, I shot this photo this morning before I'd even made my coffee because I was captivated by the way the light was coming in the kitchen windows (usually by the time I'm up and about the sun has long since shifted away) and I had the urge to grab a camera and my beloved 90mm macro lens and capture the moment as the sun gently backlit the lilies that are in a vase on the kitchen counter. The shape of the petals and the way the sun was peeking through in one area just really appealed to me.

I didn't mean it to criticize your picture as much as just a random comment about the underlying topic that has been so popular, 'sexual abuse', and how surprised I was that people appeared to anthropomorphize flowers into something 'dirty' in the comments on my little photo spread. Just a random connection made, and an old incident came bubbling up.

I took pictures of a particularly randy hibiscus that I had. I was always amazed at how shamelessly it waved it's naughty bits around.

Whatever, it's Saturday, and HOT HOT HOT!!! I'm thinking, which is always a danger, and just loving on pictures of flowers, of all kinds... (I was also shocked to find out that the neighbors hated me letting my yard go wild when it's dandelion season, but the bees love it, and the rabbits too)

Whatever, keep posting naughty flower pictures. If there is one thing that is constant, and yet forever changing, it's nature...

Estavayer-le-lac! Lovely area I don't know very well but will be visiting with our students in just over a week.
Enjoy! Lac Neuchâtel is a lot windier than Lac Leman. That is where I took the photo a few days ago of the Para boarder that was airborne. Nice ancient walled town to walk through. We were on a Sunday so most of the shops were closed.

May put a photo of Lac Neuchâtel in the pano thread as Estavayer is at the mid point

Oh, not to worry, I didn't feel that you were criticizing my image at all! Actually, your comments made me take another look at it -- early this morning when I shot it the flower's sexuality was the furthest thing from my mind! Nature will have its way, regardless of the intent of the photographer, and so I captured this intimate look at the flower even as I was thinking about the light, the shadows, the shape of the petals, the color of the flower, and that I should put down the camera and make my coffee! LOL!

As most regulars here will have seen, I tend to post a variety of subjects rather than sticking to just one genre or type of image; tomorrow's image is likely to be a bird or a squirrel or a fish -- some other creature, anyway -- if I spot anyone interesting while out walking around on the boardwalk after I've cleaned up from an early lunch...... Heh, maybe I'll find an interesting, sexy squirrel or a couple of them having frisky fun together! :D

Well, being a 'fair witness', I also must say that it could be me. Maybe I'm the pervert? I mean not everything evolves around sex, but, when it does, enjoy it, or record it for posterity?

In my little photo essay, I was just taking pictures of flowers, and people turned it 'dirty', and attacked me (gently, I thought).

'Nature finds a way' -- Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) (And it doesn't care if you find it offensive. People need to lighten up?)

I am glad that both of you wrote about flower sensuality (?). When seen some of the flower photos, I have noticed that some exude sensuality, but since I was afraid to offend those who didn't "see" the way I do, I never mentioned it. ;)
