Still much better than here where the planets were hidden behind a blizzard.Last night...I need a longer lens - but don't think Santa is listening. 200mm and heavy cropping just doesn't cut it.

Franz-Josef-Glacier valley in New Zealand (South Island, West Coast), taken exactly 4 years ago (take a few hours). Would love to go the NZ again, but guilty conscience does not allow. Sure, I could CO2 compensate the trip, but that does not take it from the upper atmosphere where the plane emits it. So when will we have zero (local) emission affordable long-range commercial airliners???
Visiting family is a whole different thing IMHO. In your case, why not combine it with another sightseeing tour ? We live in Germany and hope to travel to Island via Ferry in 2022, three days on a ship will be enough for me already, would never consider a multi-week freighter trip down there ?I have some similar of Doubtful Sound from my visit to see my brother and his wife who live in Christchurch. I also share your doubts and wonder whether I will or should see him again. Such great memories, but is that all to which we should look forward? Tough first-world dilemma ... I wonder how long a container ship would take
